They should make the Contraband Slot Machine reward different reputation certificates or whatever they are called. Something like once a month the machine changes what rep it rewards. I am not one of those who rage against the way the slot machine was changed, but now days it is nothing more than a decoration. They could easily change up the reputation each month or every few months. I think it would be a good source for reputation,

I like the idea. I do. But, I bet BW would see this as too easy to "exploit."

The only thing it can really drop is a mount right now I believe, so I am fully behind this idea!

Mount (0.05% chance or less iirc), Cartel Certs (not seen one since the nuke from orbit), reputation. Not even sure if it provides Jawa Scraps anymore, definitely not seen any.

Essentially BioWare went way overboard on how they handled this, and have refused to acknowledge the machines existence ever since or communicate on the subject. Don't expect to see any changes to improve the machine, the only thing you may get is them exploiting players by releasing other machines. Not sure how well that would go down considering what they've done to this one, I wouldn't even think about getting one off the GTN for credits if they did. All this considered.

I originally thought the slot machines were dropping the discontinued CM pack reps, and then was sad they didn't.

Considering that the packs no longer drop rep packs, it would be nice if the old reps would be brought back through the slot machine. Each one could get a month, or have them all at once returned to fill up the pool of potential reputation items to draw on...

Yeah, I think BW shoved the slot machines under the rug after the fiasco the nerfing caused, and the fiasco of before the nerfing where people were upset the scraps were being dropped so much and devaluing the value of crafting materials.

BW: What Fiasco? Slot machines, never heard of them. You must be confusing that with the casino event. Let me just move this thread out of gen discussion really quick...

Some one create a diversion!

In one of the old packs (one of the stronghold packs I believe) you can have a slot machine in your own stronghold. That's what the coins are for from Felusia or whatever her name is that sells the basic decorations.

They do still drop the jawa stuff and certs. I got 4 certs today and it cost me about 1 mil. I use it once a month just to try and get that mount.

I wrote something up for this topic and lost it when it turned out that the forum had just gone down for maintenance. I had touched on a lot of the same notes that you could find buried in post my history in other similar topics though.

But yeah, the machine had been really generous at first and then they came in and flipped it from one extreme to another and swept it all under the rug. There had apparently been plans originally to make it a whole series of slot machines with each one featuring a different cartel rep, but that never happened after they rushed to adjust the contraband machine.

Something that I had worked out for this post yesterday was that I looked at the numbers for what you could have theoretically gotten both before and after the nerf for 1 million credits. Before it was 500 credits per token and alongside the nerf they changed that to 750 credits, so that means that before the nerf you could have bought 2000 tokens for that price and after the nerf it would only be 1333-1334 tokens for around that price.

Either way you take these tokens and run them through the machine and a certain percent of your tokens can eventually end up as losses, rep items, or non-rep items. (You can factor out the 20% of results that are re-spins to find that those rates are 31.25% / 28.75% / 40% pre-nerf and 56.249% / 43.12% / 0.63% post-nerf.) Before the nerf the expected results according to these rates would be 625 losses, 575 rep items, and 800 non-rep items. After the nerf you're looking at around 749-750 losses, 574-575 rep items, and 8-9 non-rep items.

So you're getting fewer tokens for your million credits. A lot more of those tokens end up getting eaten as losses. The overall number of rep items looks unchanged, although technically post-nerf more of them are green / fewer of them are purple. The different distribution of green / blue / purple rep means that this pile of 575 rep items sells to a vendor for less after the nerf than it did before the nerf (which is the only use you have for them if you already have the rep maxed out). And then the non-rep prizes have almost entirely dried up.

What they've effectively created is a defective rep item dispenser. They might as well have been more direct about it by just creating a random box for the contraband rep and putting it up for sale on the contraband vendor for around 1000-1500 credits apiece with drop rates inside the box fine tuned to where you'd be expected to break even or lose a bit if you were to bank on buying the boxes and vendoring the rep that you get. No slot machine format was ever necessary to dispense the rep in this way.

A more interesting fix to the slot machine would have tried to squeeze a lot more types of prizes into the mix, and it probably would have abused the hell out of random item boxes to keep the machine's drop table straightforward. A fixed machine format could be able to drop:

* (common) green / blue random material boxes (fewer materials than the satchels that are in security chests (maybe even just 1 unit?), ANY grade, small chance to contain some green / blue scrap instead)

* (jackpot) purple random material box (just 1 unit of something, ANY grade, small chance for purple scrap instead)

* (rare jackpot) random scrap box (obviously the contents are weighted to be more likely to be green than blue and more likely to be blue than purple)

* (common) green / blue gift boxes (random rank 5 or higher gift)

* (jackpot) purple / legendary gift box (random rank 5 or higher gift)

* (common) random prize box (there's a prize ticket for each different cartel rep group, overall the box has something like a 1 in 100 chance to drop a cartel certificate instead of a ticket, options are added to the vendors in the cartel bazaar to be able to buy most of their wares with the appropriate prize ticket instead of with the cartel certificate, pricing would probably ask for about 5-10 times as many prize tickets for an item as what the certificate version is priced at)

* (rare jackpot) cartel certificate

* (common) green / blue random rep box (from all cartel rep groups)

* (jackpot) purple random rep box (from all cartel rep groups)

* (rare jackpot) credit boom / credit explosion

* (rare jackpots) more elusive exclusives like the mount that they added to it with the nerf (special prizes to be won directly that can't be purchased anywhere)

* (jackpot / rare jackpot) lots of tokens (like 25 or 100 or 500 or whatever amounts they want to include), this particular suggestion could possibly be an alternative to the credit boom / credit explosion idea if they don't want to factor in credit winnings

Of course if they want to revive the idea of adding different machines for each rep group they could use this format and just replace the all-purpose rep drops and prize ticket drops with ones focused on that specific rep group.

The more powerful prizes which caused all the ruckus for the machine originally (cartel certificates and purple Jawa scrap) would be fairly hard to come by (couple different ways to get them but it's all gated behind some chance) and we'd have less powerful prizes (prize tickets and randomized materials) as common alternatives to those prizes. Plus the companion gifts for a little more variety.

The slot machines at the Cartel Bazaar are should not only work but drop all of the certs.

Furthermore, certs and events should either offer more reputation or reputation levels decreased. Gree and Rakghoul (and even Kuat Drive Yards) takes to long to max out.

By the time Championship level is within reach you do not want to do the events for quite some time.
