The Gravestone

So, is anybody else getting an "Event Horizon" vibe from the lower levels?

I'd almost forgotten about this until I started KotFE again the other day with my Consular, but that dark chamber is freaky. The PC even comments that it feels like they're being watched.

I think season 2 might be, at least if Bioware is smart, about where it, the Eternal Fleet, and possibly SCORPIO (who's supposedly centuries old) actually came from and who made them.

Now that you mention it... Yes, Event Horizon.

I wounder, how long it will take for BW to explain why Outlander do not ask ANY questions about an ancient ship they “accidentally” trip over. Or why no one investigates that place with strange voices and cheerful name “Dark Sanctuary”. With such a name, there are probably carebears powering that omni-cannon and definitely not a bunch of forsaken children.

Gravestone. Like, in a Tomb. Vitiate's REAL body's in here.

Yep, that's what I've been thinking.

In that recreated temple on Ziost, there is a body lying out on the slab. I think that was Vitiate's final ritual.

Honestly I would very Very much like for any character to actually ask why the ship they are flying around in is called the gravestone, and in gennerel ask some questions about it, because you have to be an absolute idiot not to want to find out what makes your main weapon aginst the eternal fleet tick. And if there also happen to be a room with dark creepy voices, again you have to be an absolute utter moron if you dont try to figure out what that is all about.

So I guess the canon now is that the outlander and the whole crew are basically bumbling idiots.

The main problem - whom the Outlander should ask? The Gravestone is a legend for everyone. No one knows much about it; the only possible source is Valkorion, and it is obviously a doubtful source.

And do not forget - any version of the Outlander is not a tech scientist. Of course, the Alliance may give the ship to the specialists to study, but it will certainly take time.

Yeah but what your outlander is or isent, is not really important in this, because we are talking about the canon outlander here, and secondly, just because you can know if you will get an answer isent the same as you shouldent be asking. Besides plenty of people have worked on it, and yeah it might take a while before they find anything, that is not the same as characters in the game not ackowleging this, instead they are all just stopping their fingers in their ears and hopes there wont be a problem, without any of them being even slightly self awere and asking something like "should we really fly around in a ship that is so old as to become a legend that no one knows of, with mysterious tech that we dont understand, and which has a room filled with creepy voices?" Im not even saying they shouldent use it, im saying it is stupid that none of them even acknowleges that this is a problem.

The canon Outlander belongs to one of the eight classes - it is clear. None of them is a tech scientist and thus incapable of studying this quesiton - it is also clear. The best possible specialist is also the person that no one will let to study the ship intensely, and for good reasons.

It is an oversight that the orders were not given on-screen, but not every detail should be mentioned. I am quite sure, that at one future moment our good Hutt doctor will crawl into the War Room with the words like "Commander, you just won't believe our results!"

And up to this moment it is not a problem to be acknowledged. It is one of the questions.

I disagree, using a weapon that you dont understand is always a very bad idea and everyone who knows anything about weapons will tell you this, since in this situation the allience has no choice but to use the gravestone, that at least should be acknowleged by someone on screen, otherwise we have no way of knowing that any of them understand this, they might all just be crossing their fingers and hoping for all we know.

But that is the catch. The Alliance is not using the Gravestone, it is docked on Odessen. If the Alliance was preparing for the major space battle and it threatened to come very soon - yes, this question would become extremely relevant. But not now - they have time to study.

and yet we have no evidence that they are in fact studing it, not even a single line saying that they are looking into the ship, what is powering it, how dose it work, not one line to suggest they are actually taking this time to find out more about it.

It just seems logical for me. But we may assume that the majority of such dialogues are reserved for the time of Tharan's return, as he is the optimal person for this plotline.

There is one other (unreliable) source. SCORPIO actually comments that the Gravestone's computer is "an intellect to rival [her] own."

Let that sink in a moment and ask yourself when was the last time that egomaniacal psychopath actually said that about anyone or thing, or why any ship's computer would need that much brainpower. SCORPIO likely knows a lot more than she's telling.

Yes. But this seems to be also a problem - as you quite correctly mentioned, SCORPIO is also far from reliable contact on this topic. Though after that I wondered why did she really arrive to Zakuul underworld.

I'm somewhat skeptical actually, considering when Valkorian pops in to talk to you, he says something along the lines of "The Gravestone... not exactly what I had envisioned"

Of course, not the most reliable source.

Really?nice.

French translations are very bad. In French, it's not really feasible to use portmanteau words like the Gravestone, so it would have been La Pierre Tombale. It's longer to say than Cénotaphe, and it doesn't correspond to the lips' movements as much. I don't think that we should see much to it. Especially since if they meant Cénotaphe, they would have used the same word in English : Cenotaph.

For a long while I played with the game set to French for ... reasons ... and certain things mystified me. People were always going on about Cipher Nine and Keeper in the Agent story.

In French, these two individuals are called Opérateur Neuf and Cerbère (?accents?), translating as Operator Nine (or, ambiguously, New Operator, but it's fairly clear that Operator Nine is what's meant) and Cerberus. I was left wondering when I'd meet Keeper, and what his name would be...

If you used the French translation to practice French (I do the same for English), I would advise you to watch the French TV show Kaamelot, by Alexandre Astier. That's the only thing from the last 20 years, which made me happy to be French.

I practice French every day in the office - I live in France, near Lille - and yes, I liked Kaamelot. (I can say that almost without exception, my French is better than my colleagues' English.)
