Reno_Tarshil
Hello everyone. I am shure as most of you know Patch 4.1 launched today after a unexpected but expect patch maintenance day. So I will cut right to the chase. I was eager to log in today because there is a new pack coming out and before today I fully knew about the upcoming changes regarding these "Grand Chance Cubes". Now before today, my opinion of these were that it was a good idea but was going to be terribly, horribly implemented. I will state my post 4.1 opinion further down in this post but first let's have a look at the haul, shall we? http://i.imgur.com/8Xdp4AY.jpg That is from 1 Hypercrate. Not pictured are the Companion Gifts and Scrap Metals. 41x Grand Chance Cubes. vs. 1x Classic Lightweight Vibrosword 1x Insurrectionist's Blaster 2x Insurrectionist's Rifle 1x R1-H5 Astromech Droid 1x Korrealis Marquis 1x Prairie Kybuck 1x Desert Green Indestructible Crystal 1x Desert Green Hawkeye Crystal 2x Zakuulan Information Terminal 1x Squadron's Ace Upper 1x Squadron's Ace Lower 1x Darth Skotia Supple 1x Resistance Fighter Supple 1x Zak Knight Captain Lower 1x UW Anarachist Supple Out of 60 Items, 41 were Cubes vs. 19 New Items. "But Wait Reno! You didn't open your cubes! Maybe you got something new from them!" Well let's take a look then. http://i.imgur.com/1r0rZ0D.jpg Would you like to guess how many of these are new? No? here's the Answer Zero Now for my Post 4.1 Opinion regarding "Grand Chance Cubes." Simply put? They are garbage, not even okay. Just garbage. If they were a separate item to be sold by itself or even if you were promised at least 1 new item per pack they would be okay. But as they are now. They are garbage. Bioware, we buy packs to get the new items within them. I know you want to make money. But I strongly recommend you not only cancel this change on any upcoming packs but you might want to consider a hot fix that adjusts the drop rate of these cubes because this pack is Garbage now and I shall not be using my free coins to buy anymore of them. DarthOvertone
I don't buy Hypercrates or Packs from the Cartel Market. I prefer to just buy exactly what I want from the GTN with credits. However, I get that people like to collect stuff and more power to them. The extra $$$ they spend helps to keep the game running. But this Chance Cube thing really looks bad. I mean, if all the Chance Cube does is give you old stuff, then doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of buying new packs and hypercrates? The logic just doesn't follow. Anyone buying mass amounts of the new hypercrates and packs likely already purchased the old ones en masse and have that old stuff in their collections. It would seem BW is sticking it to it's best CM customers by working that older stuff into the mix. Maybe I'm off base here, but if I were a Collector, I'd be pretty upset. Damask_Rose
At least some of the items from your chance cubes should sell reasonably well, unless the prices drop from so many people opening cubes...

DarthOvertone
Until changes happen, I'm not buying anymore packs. Bro...I don't blame you. We're talking about virtual stuff here. Why would BW decide to be so stingy about giving out virtual stuff? I mean, they can't be that greedy... Pretty ridiculous.

Revan Holo-Statue is a money item but even then who knows. However I would have much liked to have new items over all of that. Bro...I don't blame you. We're talking about virtual stuff here. I understand they want to make money but this is the wrong approach to do it and alienates their customers from doing so.

That is fine you can buy the item from the gtn. However, people have to buy the packs from the cm in order for whatever item you want to appear on the gtn. That is the problem. What this means is that there will be less items on gtn and prices will be higher, perhaps the item you want won't even be listed.

You want to keep the people who buy packs consistently happy or you risk spoiling it for those who prefer buying off the GTN.
Erevan_Kindelar
If the "old" items were ones that fulfilled a specific need for individuals... for instance, reasonable drop rates of tradeable versions of reputation items that dropped in the old packs, Cartel Market Certificates, or some such, I could definitely see the Chance Cubes being wildly popular. But based on this small sample and the responses I have seen from my guildies (the most positive of them being "meh"), it looks as though the Chance Cubes are a bright idea that could have worked very well but that will just end up irritating the player base more than pleasing them. TX_Angel
The new chance cubes strike me as the same sort of thinking that led to level sync and trying to "reuse" the old content from launch until pre-4.0. The game is catering to the new player rather than the old timer. If you just showed up, if you've just started playing since 4.0, then the chance cubes are probably wonderful. For those of us who already collected everything, meh, who cares... but the new people are probably loving it...
MeNaCe-NZ
Wow nice drops from those cubes, much better than the usual bronze junk. I didn't do quite as well as that but still better than usual. Looking forward to buying more as I have inventory space for them. Also you must know by now they customer base they aim at is newer players? Casuals? etc. - people who havent been around years and collected every item and done everything. 4.0 demonstrated that as do these packs. They are great for players who missed out on everything before plus they'll drop the GTN pricing to make everything more affordable for everyone. Warrgames
Thanks Reno; saved me wasting money on a hypercrate. I was going to do a test to see how often grand crap cube where in the packs. The main thing you get from packs now is the grand crap cube. Not going to support CM till remove them from packs.

Banthabreeder
Thanks from me too. Not wasting my cartel coins on them till Bioware drops the chance cube. If I'm spending my cartel coins on something, it's on new stuff, not old.

sangwine
I have bought three hypercrates of the new packs and got so very few items actually from the pack that I feel like I've been cheated! The grand chance cubes were the majority of the new packs so much, that I got two of them per opened pack in the majority of cases or at least one, filling my bays with old junk instead of new pack items which were the reason I spent so much real money on this. The drop chances of the new items were impossibly low, in three hypercrates, there was no advertised lightsaber or cyber rancor and while I understand there's a 'chance' to get those, at least give me the chance to get new items and replace the grand chance cubes with actual pack items! Brayla_Sana
We knew this was how it was going to be. We protested. I am not buying any of these packs. The problem is, you all did. So, now it will take longer (as sales drop off) before they figure out this was a bad idea..
buildmorepylons
It gets worse really, the money grabbing runs deep to the core. As a subscriber that already pays money, all new items that come out that are worth pursuing you generally must buy with more money, you can never earn them from merit like in games. On top of that, if you pay money to try to obtain these new items, on top of the money you are already paying for the privilege of being level 65, you only have a small chance of receiving the item you are pursuing. Is this a game, or an online casino?
Hin_C
Got 33 Grand Chance Cubes in a Hypercrate, thank you Bioware. Thank you so much for giving us a chance to get more old stuff than new stuff in a new pack.
SinikalMunkey
... Why would BW decide to be so stingy about giving out virtual stuff? I mean, they can't be that greedy... BW might not be, but EA damn sure is that greedy, and more. I splurged and bought 16 hypercrates. Not a single new lightsaber. 480 packs and not one damn new lightsaber. With packs being embargoed after a two week run, there's no way in hell I'm dropping $500 on CC every run. I'll now use my army of alts to earn the credits needed to buy the items off the GTN, and consider it a discount comparatively speaking.
