I remember when it was common practice and generally accepted for people to macro crafting in SWG. Those were some pretty complicated macros with like strings of commands built into them.

If people don't believe that simple right clicks are being macroed you're pretty freaking naive.

Generally I think people try to deflect attention away, as they are likely profiting from it.

This is really what gets me.

I'm not the slightest surprised that people are doing it, but far more surprised that people are surprised to hear people are doing it.

Absolutely. I mean this fruit couldn't possibly hang any lower. Accusing an individual to be doing it is another thing of course, but you can be pretty damn sure that it's happening.

The ones with 15+ stacks of midlithe crystals?

I have 12 stacks Jawa Junk from all the hypercrates I have bought. I could put 12 stacks of Midlyth crystals up right now.

I have only played with my slot 3 times, the last time I fell asleep in my chair and woke up at 2am with my head on my desk...

I think that unless you have physical evidence (photo's video's or a signed confession) you can't accuse anyone of being a "known" macro user...

I haven't given you proof that it's happening. So because I havent given you proof, do you then believe people macro'ing on the slot machines isnt happening?

Even if I do give you evidence to suggest a person is macro'ing, there will always be people who will say it's not enough evidence. Bioware has the ultimate evidence.

It's a boring, repetitive process that yields rewards in quantities great enough to promote use and abuse. Of course people are going to use macros and bots to maximize their rewards. If the devs didn't know this before the item was even coded then they aren't qualified to work in this business.

However, knowing that something is going on and having proof that a specific individual is doing it are two different things. Real people have an amazing capacity to do repetitive tasks for hours at a time, back when Windows was subtitled 3.1 I used to play a lot of solitaire. It got to be automatic, click on the deck, move cards, click on the deck, move cards... it helped me think and I could do it for hours. If you couldn't see me and just saw the cards moving you'd think it was the computer playing by itself.

It's very hard, perhaps impossible, to keep players from automating these kinds of things. There are ways to distinguish between a human and a computer playing the game, but for a simple task like this it's very very difficult to tell the difference. As a player, you don't have to tools to prevent it from happening and can only more-or-less tell when it happens, with a lot of false positives and missing the bots programmed to move around or log out once in a while. The better the devs get at detecting the bots, the better the bots get at avoiding detection.

It's an endless cycle and getting your knickers all twisted about it isn't going to have any effect at all. Just play the game and let the devs worry about putting the genie back in the bottle.

That is something that I am not obliged to prove to anyone. I just want to know how Bioware is going to/if they are going to prevent people from using macro's on the slot machines.

They knew this would happen before anyone wrote the first line of code. If they didn't want it to happen the item wouldn't exist. There is no way to stop it and it's extremely hard to detect this sort of activity beyond the most egregious examples... "Hey, the game logs show that MrRoboto has been playing the same slot machine constantly for 150 hours, I think he might be botting..."

If they have any plans to prevent, stop or punish this behavior, they will definitely not discuss it with you. If they announce anything about it the announcement will happen whether or not you make a fuss about it. Sorry, but I just don't get the point of complaint threads like this. Does yelling at virtual people make you feel better?

Ironically I asked that question several days ago and most people didn't care that people have clicking programs going that can do the work for them while they are away from keyboard. Do I know people in my guild or outside who have admitted to using a clicking program yes. Would I use one, thought about it but I am not the type of player to just stand around for hours while the game bots for me. Have I used such programs in the past, hell yes, Blizzard's Diablo farming the third boss for drops while I slept at night time.

Am I mad about people that use it, not really but am at the same time because it's not just the market that will be affected but conquest (yes I know some of you could care less) as well. Having people use a third party program like this is generating so much green jawa that its being converted into materials to make war supply's for massive amount of points. I feel bad for a player a few weeks ago who bought between 1100 and 1500 dollars worth of hyper-crates to get the jawa junk to compete on the planet my guild was on. Pay to win, close as they lost but they made a victory we would normally not have to try with to using some of our reserves met for last week which would of given us our server 1st galactic conquer titles (thanks BW you added to new planets that eliminated us getting it).

I once considered using the scrap to obtain materials for conquest. At the time, I found running grade 2-3 missions to be far more efficient. Even after running slots all weekend, the quantity of green stacks I have doesn't seem like nearly enough for a Conquest win, especially a hotly contested one. I haven't even filled one bank tab with greens yet.

Holy moly. That actually happens? I don't feel bad for them at all. Winning Conquest is... nothing. Valueless. It's your name in pixels in a meaningless game for a week. If someone has the disposable income to dump that sort of scratch into winning Conquest, the last thing they need is my pity!

Slot machine running can't provide the quantity of materials that an army of alts can. Especially now that you can send out 6 companions. I spent almost 5 hours running slots on my Surface while watching TV. I got maybe 3 - 4 stacks of green jawa junk and about the same for blue / purple. That's maybe enough for 50 war supplies. Depending on the week and your bonus, that's 2 toons to personal. That's not nearly enough to do much on my server.

Can the slot machines provide materials for cheaper than missions? Yes. Does it provide enough mats to make any difference in conquests? Not really.

yes, i saw it too on my guild's ship. reported the guy. Bioware, what you did to the game since 3.0 is just ridiculous. Well done. :)

Killed the crafters market, killed the usage of companions of 3 years worth, killed the profit of just about anything in game, Welfare machine activated.

The funny thing is, that people will start to hoard the mats after the prices go so low that it's no longer worth it to even use the machine. The crafting market is ruined until the next expansion and new level of mats. And even then only if they remove the Jawa vendors cause there's a lot of people probably hoarding the junk too to react to shifting market prices.

I have to applaud BW for this superbly well thought out idea.

It actually reminds me of the time in SWG when they introduced the resource crates that gave you a stack of ANY resource even spawned on the server, and completely crash the crafting market, making the best items in the entire game cost less than you could make in an hour.

Then they added the items that made any piece of gear indestructible, meaning you never had to buy a new set either. Priceless.

Perhaps... but it made the core game easier for casual players who aren't wealthy in game...

Crafting is a side show, a mini game... "profit" in the game, such that it is, is also a side show. You need enough credits to pay repair bills and perhaps augment a few toons, nothing else is required. The game hands out plenty of credits for that stuff...

The expensive stuff, like rancors and walkers, are just flashy toys for the rich. And I say that as one of the rich. :)

The game itself, the core gameplay, may well be improved by having this around.

He's right, people are doing this.

Next time take a screen shot or video. As you see people get on your case.

But, it is against ToS - Rules of Conduct - to use macros.

You may not use macros, add-ons or other stored rapid keystrokes, "dupes," "cheats" or other patterns of play that facilitate acquisition of items, currency, objects, character attributes, rank or status at an accelerated rate.

So yes, I would expect Bioware to send email warnings to these folks, and strike 3 a suspension. They are having their toon act like a BOT.

If Bioware can suspend folks for harassment and exploits (cough- Ravagers), then NOT suspend players using macro's............ you pretty much can see where I am going with this.

I use a slot machine too, but I don't spend all day on it, I kinda like to play the game too. Just Saying.

Help Bioware out, by reporting folks for mis-use of the game, please try to remember to take screenshots and videos, and provide as much detail as possible, in order to help Bioware properly investigate these matters.

:ph_thank_you:

Other companies have taken the approach of looking at the other software that's running. If they see a pattern of usage of the popular macroing applications, they action you.

But these slots are so simple to macro, I could program my Logitech Gaming Keyboard to do it. Or probably more accurately, my SWTOR branded Naga mouse. I don't think it would be wise for them to action people just for using that software... :)

I see any of that "hackshield" crap or EA tries another wannabe "warden" approach like they first did with Origin, I'm gone. And like you say, what about programmable keyboards and mice? I'll be damned if I'll downgrade my Cyborg setup for some $4.99 Microsuck keyboard and mouse from Target just because some other moron playing is a wannabe script kiddie.

Last I checked, noone here is on EAware's payroll as account cops. This is what they're supposed to have "metrics" and other nifty little dev-isms for.

IF they are macroing, they'll be discovered and banned. That's what happened during the casino event, and that's what will happen here.

But then, that's only IF they are macoring, I still haven't seen any proof of that.

To the point, you cannot prove that they aren't using macros on the slot machines.

You should google Russel's Teapot...

Not to mention anyone with more than one braincell actually using a macro for it, would be doing so alone with their own machine(s) in their own private stronghold

Aye, I agree that a army of alternate characters companions will out produce what you can get from the slot machine most defiantly. The cost difference favors this method as well because to think about it a green jawa is now set at 500 credits. The break away point depends on the material you purchase and in this case you would get more bang for your buck if you crafted the 450 items which require 6 x 4 for bio-chemical or 8 x 3 for archaeology and scavenging.

I've been watching these two guilds fighting it out on Quesh on our server and since the machine started going into mass affect around Thursday both of these teams points have sky rocketed fast. Between hyper-crates and the slot machines, I assume they consumed a metric ton of green materials for crafting. I know for myself, I need to have ready 146 stacks of bio-chemical, 116 stacks of archaeology and 175 stacks of scavenging mats ready by mid day Monday so I can do a 1 day burst to scare off any competition. That's just me, then we have another 4 people that follow me but lack a crafter or two less or mostly not 100% GSH bonus..
