The Contraband Slot Machine

Well, the latest patch has destroyed any benefit from the Slot Machine.

The drop rate for jawa scrap is now way, way to low. 99 tokens to get only one bit of jawa scrap...this is now a pointless waste of credits and not worth bothering with.

Yes I did get a large number of rep tokens, but selling these netted only 30k out of the 75k spent for the tokens, so one bit of jawa junk cost 45k...yeah, that is not balanced.

Also, what happened to the drop rate on Cartel Certificates, you used to get at least a couple, now nothing at all.

Yes, BW definitely had a major knee jerk reaction on this and ruined a potential fun extra.

As long as this is the drop rate for the next slots too, I'm pretty much fully onboard, having played it only for the Reputation in the first place.

Hey everyone, check out the video on YouTube:

Krixten's "Money Talks" Casino and Trade Emporium Video

We were all hyped up about the slot machines and even made a video... I hope they readjust the payouts again so my casino isn't a ghost town.... :/

Great. With this change I now have a mailbox full of people asking for some partial refunds for the stronghold keys i sold in exchange for access to the slot machine. Don't blame me. And no, you can't have your money back.

It's their problem for being idiotic and buying stronghold keys when there are public strongholds on literally every server with these slots.

Lets face it the slot machine allowed people to augment without Slicing.

It [Jawa Junk] had to go, it was allowing an entire profession to be bypassed.

Good riddance.

Fine... then give me a refund on the 5,400 CC I used to purchase the hypercrate and we'll call it even.

This, except I have also cancelled the automatic renewal of my subscription. Maybe they'll notice if lots of people do that.

Eh, I need to get out more anyway. And it's not like the bug-ridden L60 ops are actually all that fun.

Lord... from YOU that is shocking... I associate your name as a Bioware defender in all things...

I'm nearly speechless!

While I do not support the way BW handled things with the Slot Machine, I am fairly baffled that a mishandling of a quirky little stronghold decoration has caused this much of a blow-up, with people claiming they've unsubbed over it. Yeah they screwed things up, but they screwed things up in relation to a really minor aspect of the game.

Obviously your money is your own, and you can subscribe or unsubscribe on any basis you want whatsoever, but if I was a dev I'd be looking at these threads and wondering what freaking twilight zone I dropped into where this is what has people worked up.

Really, you never thought a cartel item that replaces Slicing and Underworld Trading wasn't just possibly too good to be true?

^this

They can buff crew skills in todays patch or nerf machines, they decided to nerf machines. They are lazy as hell, you could not expect more from them! :)

You got plenty of other things with the hypercrate. Lets be reasonable.

Also, wait for the final fallout before making drastic requests. It took a week to adjust the slots that were clearly broken before, it may take an equal length of time to fix slots that are clearly broken now (I am sure they didn't mean to make the walker 100 times more rare than the Kingpin Rancor for example)

I'd like you to spend some time pondering camels, straws, reputation, and repeat business.

Perhaps you'll be less baffled if you do.

Yes, it's a cryptic response, but for a reason: in this case only you can cure your baffledness.

Be prepared though: some objective and rational thought may be required.

Oh you mean compared to the 10 a week for conquest?

Be real the machine was spitting out that many in an hour.

Anyway, I am lolling all the tears.

I had 6 stacks of 99 purple jawa junk BEFORE the slot machine was introduced.

I don't do conquests...

You're forgetting that we've been getting jawa scrap with cartel packs for quite a while already now.

Pretty sure "objective and rational thought" is what leads to the conclusion that "this seems like a really silly thing to get that worked up over".

My casino was open to the public, then I went private for my community of guilds I play in to get their casino fun in before the big change. I hope they come up with a better payout. Yes, the first one was too much, but the current change was too much of a drop. I think there's a comfortable middle ground that can be found. Come on Bioware, I got faith in you! :-) I know it might take time to get the right payout figured out, just don't give up and make this decision final just yet....

Decisions about many aspect of the game, I defer to the developers. But when they use bait-and-switch tactics to get people to part with their credits and dollars, or are just so incompetent that they appear to be doing that, such deference is inappropriate.

Through the machine you could get 1000+ grade 11 mats per day, that is an issue.

Definately.

But you'd either have to macro it (and thus get banned) or you'd have to sit there for 8 hours straight and click the machine.

And anyone that does that deserves 1000+ grade 11 mats.

I mean, after all, it's only virtual money that they're getting... and they can't play the game while doing it.

Materials come from missions, master crafter, you should know that.

This would be true if the level 500 "rich" crew missions were returning purple rewards at a comparable rate to earlier grade materials, but that's just not what's happening. A true "fix" to this would be to increase the chance that level 500 "Rich and Bountiful" missions resulted in gaining some level 11 purples.

Are you sure you would recognize an objective and rational thought if it accidentally occurred to you?

Because getting scammed out of credits and/or dollars by BioWare seems a rational thing to get worked up about.

Do you think this was a scam they planned out?

Or do you think they nerfed it because of an endless stream of ************, whining and moaning?

My -money- is on the latter.

Ok sir...I will try and explain it to you.....As of friday, they said the machine were working as intended and not an exploit, but that they were going to keep an eye on jawa junk (aka lvl 11 mats..to them at least). And so upon hearing this ,straight from Bio/EA's mouth, people that had not got the item as of yet for fear of it being bugged or exploited finally went out and spent either in-game credits or real life cash trying to get this item. Thus probably making this one pack SWtOR's best selling item as of yet. Now, flash forward to today and not only did they nerf the jawa junk drop, but everything else into oblivion , thus wasting people's time and real money.

Thus giving a rather vivid example of "bait and switch"..... So, yeah they have a right to be angry.

Actually it's just that the idea of spending any substantial amount of real money specifically to acquire this particular item is equally baffling - but to each their own on how they want to spend their disposable income.

One should take it as an opportunity to ponder fools, money, and partings.

I can get behind the idea that this is such a 'vivid' example of a bait and switch that it would engender outrage, thus kicking things up a notch on the forums.

But I am not baffled at the idea that there are any people who are upset by the change - some people absolutely got the short end of the stick on this development, I've never disputed that and it's the reason I have said I believe BW mishandled it - I am only baffled at the notion that this many people are upset, it's completely taken over the forum with over 20 threads on the subject cycling through the front page.

I guess I just didn't expect that this many people would be throwing real money at the pursuit of a single interactive stronghold decoration.

For some, mylf included in the some, its more of a "FFS, Really?" Type of thing. I was already on a mad at Bioware for incredibly stupid decision making in regards to the end of Mass Effect 3, but tried to gauge SWToR on its own merits rather then bias towards Bioware.

Am I angry they nerfed jawa junk? Nope, I am used to gathering my own mats. Jawa mats are a non issue for me.

I am unhappy they -said- they were nerfing jawa junk, then nuked everything else associated it from orbit -without- mentioning it. Cartel certificates to buy decos for my stronhold, and to donate decos to my guilds flagship are why I liked the slot machine.

I am unhappy they put out the Jaraels tunic with that awful awful bug that makes it look like male characters wearing it are sporting morning wood under the loincloth flap, and female characters wearing are hiding a strap on under it. They are told it exists, ignore the problem, then release the Revanite set, where the tunic and its loincloth have the exact same bug!

I am unhappy that for THREE years now the Imperial Agent companion Vector is STILL crossdressing (he wears the female version of clothing, anything with a bra, Vector dons the bra)

I am unhappy they pretty much went "Lol whatevs!" To the Ravager exploiters.

The list has been growing lately, and its just dissapointing.....

So does this mean EVERYONE is over the shock of possible banning by random looks at achievements? Cause this is what I consider a distraction! (or from Ops bugs etc!)

For those that might not know what that means, definition:

1. a thing that prevents someone from giving full attention to something else.

2. extreme agitation of the mind or emotions.

Well played whoever did this!

Once again not getting upset about anything in game, cause this is a game and it's something to distract me from RL, not something to control my RL. If it means more to someone else thats on them....I have no ill will to them or anyone else, if you want to freak out idm go for it!

Personally, I'm hoping they see the near-universal distaste that these changes have invoked and they'll tweak the drop rate back up from the depths of ridiculousness.

But, come on. Do we really need to play the 'from one extreme to the other' game? Is it really 'that' hard to find a happy median?

Given the outcome in so many of BW's decisions; apparently it is -d a m n- near impossible to find a happy median.
