I believe Leia was the Cybertech, since she had the Thermal Detonator in RotJ. Han was obviously just underworld gathering and Chewbacca was presumably Diplomacy since he originally negotiated the deal with Obi-wan.

I would have expected either Han or Chewie to be a Cybertech due to the upgraded MF with superior Ship Parts.

I can't believe you don't understand this. You're usually pretty good about thinking through issues. But then you use arbitrage... you're not a crafter.

The CM Certificates make the whole thing profitable as long as you can sell CM Personnel Decorations for something around 10k. That means that as long as that's the price point on GTN, the slots pay you to gather materials.

But let's say the market crashes and you can't give the stupid things away...

The drop rates on the slots still mean that:

  • The cost of each artifact crafting material is 20% of what it is doing missions.
  • You get more artifact crafting materials in 7 minutes of running coins in slots than you could hope to get from 7 minutes of sending your crew on the right missions, then waiting for those missions to return 30-45 minutes hence, and the missions you launched crit about twice as much as usual.

That's not a market "change". That completely eliminates the need or desire to run a mission ever again. It would be epically foolish to do it.

I should save this to PM to you later. If BioWare leaves this machine as it is, that is exactly what will happen. If they adjust it, well, we'll have to see what the adjustment is.

Remember when I asked you about arbitrage... how to get into it?

Had you asked me about how to get into crafting before last week, my answer would have started with, "Take 3 gathering skills and...."

Today, my answer is, "Don't bother. Ask me again if BioWare changes the slots."

New crafters won't be able to compete without a slot machine. They'll have to grind dailies for a good long while to afford one, then to afford enough coins to feed it to generate enough materials to start to be profitable, and by then every crafted item will be a commodity - too little profit to bother with. Running dailies will become the best way to get credits for everyone.

Well, except for the very few elite crafters who are gonna do what I said I'm gonna do above.

But, for the most part, the Labor caste has "won". Now, everyone gets to do dailies. Or arbitrage with CM items, I guess. Or RMT's.

Whee.

I don't understand what you're going on about. The doomsday scenario will almost certainly not happen. Bioware obviously had a change in mind when they injected the slot machine into the market. They are controlling this and I suspect they wanted a change in the economic picture but understand, its not going to destroy anything. The market will shift to accomodate it. If prices on materials and crafted items fall a bit, so be it. The market will absorb it.

Where is this HUGE impact by the way? I'm a lazy bastard sometimes and I just buy what I need off the GTN. I'm not saving much right now. When is the big crash coming?

Furthermore, they already mentioned they might adjust the JJ drop rates. So, again, why all the panic?

It's pretty obvious that both Han, Leia, Luke and Chewie bought everything through the CM.

They were all whales, it's perfectly obvious since they win in the end and we all know this game is pay-to-win, right?

Darth Vader was one of the few who got in at launch and then never used the cartel market (not even the free stipends) and that's why he lost in the end, because he just couldn't keep up with the advantage that all that real money spending gave the others.

C-3PO and R2-D2 were F2P and Lando was just a short-time subscriber who left to play another game.

There's no panic. This is a boon to crafters. For the short term, anyway.

The issue is that they've introduced a CM item that makes it utterly foolishly stupid to ever play part of the game again - running crafting missions.

This is a direct contradiction to BioWare's previous statements that they would never, EVER do that with CM again.

It flew to the joy of the masses because y'all think crafters are evil money-grubbing credit ho's and want them to be harmed because they use "Credits" rather than "Boss Kills", "Gear Level", or "PvP Rank" to keep score.

One clear thing is BWs non existent communication. If i remember right, this is by far the biggest change on how crafting/crewskills work and they put this change exclusive into the CM with ZERO communication about it. Edited by Neglience

Bioware's communication is clear: working as intended with the exception of, PERHAPS, the JJ drop rates. T

Your perceived view of a lack of communication does not mean there is a lack of communication.

Why would they post again just to say working as intended. As I mentioned in another post, I think its obvious Bioware intended the machine to impact the playerbase and its working as intended.

I still run crafting missions and I am extremely confident if Bioware DID provide the data, it would show people are still running crafting missions every day.

Re-reading your posts certainly looks like an economy concern. but...anyway...

But let me offer some anecdotal evidence. I am still running crafting missions and here is why I suspect players will to:

I still do stuff other than standing in front of a slot machine. While its fun and has a decent drop rate, I play the rest of the game and I use the crafting missions like I always have.

Thats why a lot of Threads popped up right after the patch, because Bioware clearly communicated this important change and no questions where left open. So my perceiving is shared with a lot of other players.^

The important data would be how many crafting mats are generated through missions and how many are generated with the machine in the same time.

And of course a lot of players are still running missions, the machine is CM exclusive. Most players can not afford one (or more)

Really?

Zero communication you say?

Hey folks,

We know that there have been many questions about the Contraband Slot Machine and its intent. Here are a few notes on it:

  • The Contraband Slot Machine is not bugged.
  • It is 100% not an exploit to use the Slot Machine.
  • If you feel the desire to sell access to your Stronghold, that’s totally up to you. As a reminder, do not scam people as that is against ToS.
  • We added the Slot Machine as a fun idea based on the positive feedback from the Nightlife event, so spend those credits to your heart’s content!

With that being said, we do hear the concern from many of you around the effects of the Jawa Junk’s drop rate on the economy. We are going to take a look at it and make changes accordingly. I will let you know once I know more. In the meantime, have fun! :rak_03:

You communicate proactive on important issues not when everything gets out of hand. That post was made days after the change took place and players were opening up threads about it.

Another point is that important informations are not posted in this post.

Or I can drop $100 on CCs, enjoy the suspense of opening all the crates in two hypercrates, and hopefully get a Slot machine I can play pretty much as often as I like for no additional real money. And just like a RL casino machine, it provides the sensory rewards - lights, sounds - that the RL slot machines do, which matters, and some rewards I can use to further my SWTOR enjoyment.

Sounds like fun! Thanks BioWare!

Update: wife and I bought 3 Hypercrates each. She got 3 Slot Machines, I only got one.

Now my "casino" has a 4-machine bank, she has a 3-machine bank, and the other two she will give to the guild.

Why? Because playing slots is a fun thing to do when you aren't raiding, leveling, or doing FPs or weeklies.

More fun than cycling toons, anyway.

I dispute your categorization a bit.

Han and Lando were the Cartel whales.

Lando is that guy that buys a hypercrate of every pack, then logs into the forum to complain about he got shafted and about how "this deal gets worse all the time".

Han is the lucky one who always pulls the best items from the packs on his first try. Wookie companion? Check! Kickass starship? Check! Hot princess girlfriend in a metal bikini? Check! The only bad pull he got was that whole carbonite thing, but he got past that without any permanent damage as well, so his luck is still holding.

Leia is the alt that gets the benefit of 8 other max leveled characters crafting and buying everything she needs all the way through her life.

Luke is the steady subscriber who plays the game exactly as it was intended, reaping the benefits of a story driven MMO. (But he did pick the wrong dialog options, so he doesn't get the girl in the end...)

Vader, on the other hand, is actually a Dev in disguise, showing off all the coolest stuff the cartel market provides, and making everyone want them. (Soooooo dark side....)

A rather accurate version I'd never considered. Well played :)

This just might be the best post in the entire thread. Gave me a good giggle, thanks :)
