CapWinterz
Hello, i quit back before strongholds came out and recently started playing again, what exactly are strongholds for, do they give any benefits, storage, buffs etc, and what is prestige that i see when i loot decoration items? and are there upkeep fees or rent like in other games (LOTRO)
XiamaraSimi
Legacy storage, unlimited quick travel abilities, conquest bonus are the top three most enjoy from strongholds. No upkeep, only "fees" are one time room unlock charges. Edited October 16, 2014 by XiamaraSimi
Max_Killjoy
No rent, just unlocking costs. You can add a mailbox, cargo hold, guild bank, the new legacy storage shared across your characters on the same server, vendor droids, vendor jawas, a vendor lady, appearance mod station, item mod station, and GTN terminals. Travel to and from the 'hold speeds up some of the moving around the galaxy that you have to do -- you can always exit to the planet it's on, your ship, and your faction's fleet, plus the last planet/place you were at (sometimes one of the above). You can give guild members or friends keys that allow them to visit the 'hold and use the utilities in the first paragraph whenever they want, even if you're not on. Etc. Viperswhip
Legacy storage, unlimited quick travel abilities, conquest bonus are the top three most enjoy from strongholds. No upkeep, only "fees" are one time room unlock charges. I cannot overstate how much I enjoy the quick travel. Also, you can have a legacy bank right next to your regular cargo, which is fantastic, and vendors right in the lobby to repair and vendor things. You can stick a galaxy auction terminal right there as well. No sign yet of crafting trainers or crafting vendor, maybe they will go that route eventually. Pscyon
Well if what they're "good for" is a purely mechanical, technical question then it depends what you put in them. You can basically make them small hubs by inserting mail boxes, GTN terminals, cargo bays, LEGACY cargo bays, vendors and crafting nodes. They function as rest areas (cantinas), you can instantly teleport to them and from there you can exit to the fleet, your ship, exactly where you came from or the planet said stronghold is located on. You can also decorate your stronghold with all manner of furniture, companions, speeders, crafting stations etc. and doing so will give you a higher "prestige rating" that helps you progress quicker through the weekly Conquest thingie. Finally, you can use it as a social hub where you can invite your friends or even let them run about when you're offline.
tmblake
I find them very very convenient for a lot of things. You can quick travel to them from ANYWHERE with no cooldown. From your stronghold, you can then transport back to where you transported from, your ship, the fleet, or wherever your stronghold is located. Also with no cooldown. You can then purchase very helpful things for inside your stronghold, like GTN, Legacy Storage (A HUGE plus), mailboxes, and a myriad of other things. This means you never have to go running around trying to find a GTN or a mailbox or storage or anything like that, you can simply teleport and BAM you have it. You can also place crafting nodes in your house that you can use to get materials (even rare ones if you were lucky enough to get a furniture node for it). Obviously, these have cooldowns, but it's extra materials you wouldn't have had otherwise! Edited October 16, 2014 by tmblake
SaceDelora
We bought cartel packs to decorate our dolls with pretty clothes, now we buy Barbie's dream house to put our dolls in. Edited October 16, 2014 by SaceDelora

Agreed... this is unquestionably a very good idea on the Dev. Team. Some of us are in fact hoping for another location in the future.... IMHO even though we all have our complaints from time to time it is always good to let them know when they've done a good job! If this continues to unfold as it has just opened up it should continue to do well.
BuriDogshin
Plus there is really no need to buy the Priority Travel - Personal Starship or the cool-down reduction on Fleet Pass once you own even one Stronghold.

LyraineAlei
Nice little place that has all the fun stuff of Fleet, except missions, trainers and the specific vendors. And a gazillion people on rancors lagging out your screen. And a credit sink because some places (Nar Shaddaa and Tatooine) are more expensive than others (Coruscant and Dromund Kaas). Jrr_hypernova
I am sure weapons manufacturers would disagree of your assessment. Also the shear amount of modern technology that was designed of military applications is staggering. War you can thank it it for radio computers satellites any of the hundreds of NASA spin off technologies(space race was just flimsy cover for who cold make the best missile) and of course weapons without which we never would have climbed the food chain to a position where we could spend time thinking and pondering the universe. Take away mans sharp rock tape to a stick and were just a slow clumsy good sized meal for predators.
Pietrastor
The important thing about gathering nodes - they can be used regardless if you actually have the gathering skill or not. Every character can use every gathering node of any type. They have random 50/50 chance of "resource exhaustion" cooldown which makes u unable to gather any node for 4 hours, bu y can swap to alt to bypass that and gather again. ALL resources really (except credits). You can place any item that is not bound to a particular toon into the legacy vault and if one of your other characters need it .. EASY access ! Great stuff !! branmakmuffin
They are for getting you to spend creds and, more importantly, Cartel Coins and, even more importantly, real money on Cartel Coins. In game, their purpose is the conquest boost.
Max_Killjoy
While the conquest bonus is a nice thing for those really into conquest, it's hardly the only purpose. On the subject of Legacy Storage, it's hard to overstate how useful that is. I've gone from having to hop around between characters to ship scavenged mats, underworld metals, luxury fabrics, and sliced tech parts back and forth, to simply storing them all in Legacy Storage.
