Pyro PT looking for advice.

I don't PvP very much, and, to be honest, I really, really SUCK at it. I normally play PvP as a Pyro due to my brother playing Assault Specialist on his VG(the same VG in the sig). However, I suck at it. My gear... could be worse. Its stock conquerer Combat Tech boots, legs, hands, helmet, and chest, level 53 earpieces and implants, 66 purple main hand, 69 offhand, belt, and bracers(This gives me about 17k expertise, and I'm working on getting a full set of PvP gear). I'm new to the spec, so I really have not gotten the hang of it, even in PvE. I'm horrible with the procs, horrible at the rotation, and just has overall, but I'm really, really liking all the burning.

I'd really like some advice on how to get better.

If you're going the "Pyro" route I'd dump the gear you have and go with the 4pc Eliminator set; if you already have the "Combat" chest I would keep that for an upgrade because the Obroan has the maxed power/surge enhancement. That way you don't have to throw away coms on that piece. Even with the "Conqueror" 4pc you can still be competitive, and you'll get better as you improve on your gear. On my VG/PT I have the maxed advanced adept 28x agile mods so start out with the "conqueror" version till you have enough commendations for an upgrade. Also, have every piece augmented with the aim/end & use expertise crystals. That should cover your gear problem.

As for your rotation, I think it depends on the situation. For a broad p.o.v. I approach with either explosive dart or rapid shots (if my heat was up from another battle) then when in 10m thermal/inc. round/flame burst...back away with rail shot. If they're chasing me I'll kite them a bit with either rapid shot or flame burst then surprise him/or by coming in with rocket punch (if other melee are focusing, I'd come in with carbonize). Again It will depend on the situation and I'm sure someone will post a better opener than I proposed. Pretty much "rinse and repeat" from there. Plus taunt, taunt, and more taunt...it helps your team a lot... "Koozie's" post offers a bunch of info so like the post above me, I would check that out. Soon YOU WILL BE BETTER THAN YOUR BROTHER!!!

Build: 4/6/36 "Standard" Pyro build.

Hope this helps.....

My suggestions:

1) Look up Koozie's guide in the PT section

2) Make sure you actually have a decent build: 4/6/36 is good.

3) Your gear seems messed up: you need to have 2018 expertise in a WZ, 4-piece eliminator set with only the following stats: aim, power, crit, surge. Get Obroan aim and power relics.

4) Pyro damage rotation is easy: high impact bolt, assault plastique, stock strike, ion pulse.

5) Learn about, as much as possible, and master your defensive and utility abilities.

6) Realize that you are not there to face tank - keep it short and sweet: you go in, blow (or try to at least) someone up and fall back. Guerrilla tactics, baby.

The gear like some one above said look up others who did the math on min/max for Pyro it will take some work to maximize it -other wise just stack Power/Surge as much as possible.

As for how to play its one of the easier specs to play ONCE you learn how and when to use your cool downs and Stims. I can not stress enough how vital it is for Pyro to when to use which CD! Also, learn when to blow your burst (so your CD offensive abilities- and when to wait or you can die...For example throw everything on a jugg who simply reflects it back WILL kill you...or blow all CDs on a Sorcerer who simply barrier again not smart...

Its one of the most powerful ranged DPS builds in the game...Stay near your team and blow up anything that goes after your ranged...at least that's how I play it...

If I were you, I would start learning with AP, it has a lot more survivability baked in. You learn more and do better when you're not dead or getting farmed by *********** operative DPS.

You take a third less damage while stunned, so stun classes like assassins and scoundrels can't kill you as easy. In fact they'll cry when their overpowered knockdown stun opener doesn't kill you outright.

You take a third less damage from AOE like smash and orbital strike, that's just about everyone else.

Heat management isn't an issue with HEGC and the free rocket punch.

Rebounder keeps shields up a lot more often, so you take a quarter less damage for 10 out of every 40 seconds. Plus you get a redoubt proc that randomly absorbs 1K or so of damage every ten seconds or so.

Give it a try, learn the rotation and combos for attacks.

Hello Duran'del,

The above summarizes what you need for pyro. I would emphasis going to Koozie's guide in the PT section. It is really neat.

Irrespective of pyro PT, for fastest way to gear up and be competitive in PvP is:

1- Be stimmed.

2- Be augged. Aim for PT.

3- Use PvE weapons where the sum of barrel/armoring+mod+enhancement are =< 195. I would refer to L-Randle guide sticked in the PvP section.

4- Work on getting obroan relics ASAP. You want the power and main stats proc. Until you can afford them use conqueror power proc and a PvE one that is below campaign level (matrix cube recommended if you have it).

5- Then get eliminator set conqueror.

6- BiS the conqueror set.

7- Finally get obroan.

Modding the conq before obroan? horrible idea

Thanks for all the advice! I've finally gotten both of my relics to Conqueror(I had a really bad Arkanian one when I first got my DPS set) and I've been working on getting them to Obroan, plus getting a full set of conquerer. I haven't gotten any of the eliminator's set yet, but I do have several questions:

1. Why should I use Eliminator? The 2-piece for it seems useless(PTs can't use TM), but then again, so is the 2-piece for CT.

2. Is min-maxed conquerer MH and OH any good?

3. Are PvP Implants, Earpiece(Combat Medic), belt/bracers)Combat Tech) BiS for Conq?

I have really been enjoying PvP lately, and I've found its a lot more fun to just try to melt people's faces than play the objective.

1. 15% crit chance on Railshot > Anything else. It's THE best set bonus in the game.

2. Yes. But get 46 offhand, and 67 mainhand.

3. The 53 purples are fine, tbh, but you'll want the power/surge implants.

2. No. Use a reflex barrel 20, agile mod 20b, and adept enhancement 19 from planetary comm vendors for MH/OH (reflex armoring 20 instead for OH)

3. For implants use microfilament reflex d-enhancers

I use pvp gear for everything else, the stuff I just listed is better than obroan in wz's.

No. Using a barrel is stupid. You lose so much railshot damage, you might as well respec AP.

I can't really use the bolstering level 46 mods because I use my PvP set while I do PvE dailies for pops. It would suck if I ran around Makeb(Its a REALLY good source of credits. Did the PvP dailies, all of the Makeb and GSI dailies minus heroics, One 55 HM FP, and one 40 HM FP. Got ~400k credits in around 3 hours.) hitting mobs with a wet noodle. Edited by TheSupaCoopa

I would not focus on using PvE mods for PvP. They do provide an advantage but only if you know which ones to mix with your class. I see so many PTs/VGs running around with 45 mods in their MH just because of what they read from the forums. If you don't get how they work or you just don't care then stick with the PvP pieces, trust me - at least you know what you are getting.

Ottoattack and Luckeyduckey gave sound advice.
