Lecaja
Assuming it's cannon Annihilation takes place some time after the Jedi Knight and Imperial Agent storyline and before Makeb was the first story based content that occurs post game. In that novel the Treaty of Courscant has been broken and Imperial and Republic Fleets are at all out war, attacking planets and everything, but in the four storylines I've played so far that hasn't happened. In the game a cold war is going on where each side is attacking each in secret or by proxy with other forces but in Annihilation the whole Galaxy is at war and has been for some time. Girdeux
By the start of Act 3 your told the actual war has restarted again, some even at the end of act 2...You need to pay ALOT more attention to the dialogue. I mean, its constantly repeated over and over on belsavis, voss and corellia that they are at war.....what do you think the planetary questlines are about? Answer this honestly, did you spacebar all 4 of your characters through the entire act 3? Edited November 19, 2013 by Girdeux
DAWUSS
In game we see the TOC being broken (due to We The 8 Characters), but we really haven't seen any major battles in game. There really isn't much difference between TOC and post-TOC so far. Whether or not we'll get to remains to be seen.

How much of what you saw on Corellia indicated that a major battle was underway? It looked like a break from the fighting.

You kill three Dark Council members as part of the Republic planetary storyline, basically every major military leader is there (i.e. Garza is there in person), the Consular leads their entire alliance they've been building and confronts the First Son. The BH story culminates with the encounter with the Chancellor above Corellia. Etc. etc. Leaving the actual in game events aside, it's also stated many times how important Corellia is to the Republic and how massive the forces on both sides are - the Imperial NPCs repeatedly talk about how massive a blow this would be to the Republic, the Republic NPCs repeatedly state that Corellia cannot fall. The importance and scale of the battle are very, very clear. Edited November 19, 2013 by Lesaberisa

It's basically, go here, say hi to the mobs just standing there, kill your quest target, return to base, go to a different place and do the same thing. There's an area of Corellia where there are many bombs falling - they're part of the environment and don't damage you, but they're there nonetheless. errant_knight
Aside from the class stories that have clear mention of the treaty being broken (play an imp for extra clarity. ), have you done Makeb? There's no getting around the fact that they're at war there. To get a full picture of what's going on you really need to play all 8 characters, but particularly the knight, warrior, agent and trooper. You at least need to play both factions. Of course, there will likely be surprises. There are parts of the story where we only know what other characters think, not the actual truth, so there's room for all kinds of twists. We're definitely at was though! Edited November 20, 2013 by errant_knight
Yeochins
Playing the Sith Inquisitor you pretty much blow up an entire republic fleet.
