Stop the lottery

Please STOP the lottery!

I don't mind paying for ingame cosmetics, but spending money for a chance to get the item's I want...

That makes me feel like i'm in the casino, and the house always wins.

Most of the players that buy cartel packs are already subscribers, and even if you get around 500 CC/month,

you will never be sure what you will get for the amount of money you spend.

I bought a 24x pack a couple of weeks ago and there where only 3 cool items for the 70€ i spend,

3 times the same ship model.

conclusion: i felt so bad about my decision to spend money on a lottery system ingame.

Please, take this serious!

I like the lottery actually, it ensures some items will have to be traded.

That think you don't want might be exactly what someone else wants witha passion.

Any boost to a games in game market is a Bonus.

I agree entirely with this, I want to just be able to buy what I want, like that Carth Onasi outfit and the new blaster pistols in the new pack, just buy them and be able to equip for my smuggler, instead of having to gamble opening these packs in the hope i'll find a piece of the outfit.

1) Buy Cartel Packs

2) Put unopened Cartel Packs on GTN

3) Wait

4) Collect credits from mailbox

5) Use GTN to buy what you want

6) Profit!

This.

If the cartel packs sell well, that means Bioware makes money, which means we have a game to play.

It's really that simple.

The server hamsters need food. Won't anyone think of the hamsters?

Isn't that the reason why we pay subscription?

That is a possible solution, but just the wrong methode :(

Cartel packs are here to stay. They are the best seller (probably by far) on the cartel market. They are responsible for a large enough portion of the game's revenue to fund not only further cartel market fluff, but also real game content.

From the moment EA decided it was unwilling and/or unable to produce "more content, more often than any other MMO" and instead go to free-to-pay cash shop, that was the reality.

It will not change. Adapt or drive yourself insane over it. Those are your options.

Exactly..I would love to know the reason for a paying subscription when everyone seems to herald the cash shop as the only way this game is staying afloat.

Yeah seems that they DON'T have the subs everyone loves to brag about.

-If the items where legacy bound on equip

-if the CC economy was more correct

-if there was no more subscription

-if CM wasn't a part of the game, such as reputation

then this game would be awesome!

Sorry, but just because the CM generates revenue for EA does not mean that revenue is being invested back into the core game.

Not to mention many of us are paying a monthly subscription, which is supposed to go towards feeding the hamsters.

So no, it isn't that simple.

We get lots and lots of stuff that F2P players have to buy.

It's not a lottery. It's Pokemon, but with a cheaper price per pack and a lack of pesky physical cards to deal with.

exactly, EA's motto: mass production + "low" quality = mass profit

I wonder how many people here are aware that BW/EA launched TOR on the foundation of a 'ten year plan'.

It seems that EA are viewing the release of their Star Wars based MMO as a long term project as the company places a possible ten year lifespan on the project.

Eric Brown, the financial officer at EA, has stated that: "The key thing here is to really perfect the product," he said at a UBS conference in New York (via MCV). But has gone on record stating that the game will not need the same level of subscribers as World of Warcraft to be successful.

Continuing he said: "We're shooting for an extremely high quality game experience. We view this as a ten-year opportunity. Our assumptions for break-even and profitability are not seven-digit subscribers. We think we can run and operate a very successful and profitable MMO at different levels." This comes just after CEO of Activision Blizzard Bobby Kotick said that he wasn't concerned with Old Republic nicking subscribers from the the hugely successful World of Warcraft series. Old Republic has been given an approximate release date of April 2011 to the end of the year. Whether that is a calender or financial year, we don't know. Look out for more information as it comes.

Lesson learned...

Seriously, spending money foolishly is a lesson that every person has to learn.

Some people have to learn it multiple times.

If it cost you less than $100 for this lesson, consider yourself EXTREMELY lucky.

Live life... Have fun, If this game isn't contributing to your enjoyment... don't do it.

P.S. If this system EVER has 1 single item that is even close to P2W please join me in quitting this game entirely.

Im tired of these kind of statements, We cant know how well the packs would have sold if the gear/pets/mounts were available for direct purchase, however I think everyone can make a pretty good educated guess, EA would have figured this out with the first few rounds of CM updates. Its a plausible reason the ok gear sold directly got phased out while even better looking gear got stuffed into packs until even better looking gear gets stuffed into new packs...

They know our weak spot, they have been listening to us this last year, especially when a lot of ppl shared the sentiment that were running around a very beautiful world but all the gear looks rubbish, for the first time since I started playing I finally see gear I want to wear cos it looks great, But EA is not a friend, they knew we wanted this stuff, that it was a neglected part of the game and from their unfriendly perspective decided to make it but string us along to get it... such is life.

I too hate the gambling aspect, i dont feel money has been gouged from me since Ive given them no money for this gambling with money mini game, I do feel disappointed that playing the game will never contain the anticipation of a random or hunted drop from mobs, kill mobs, hamd in quests, get credits, buy from someone through GTN just has no thrill to it.

As I see it, an MMO staple was letting me gamble with my time, this money gamble is quite new and I can let it be but my question is cant we have both?

As someone who's opened a lot of packs, I call BS. Post your entire loot list from the 24 packs.

Sell your packs on the GTN for credits, then use those credits to buy the items you want.

This.

It's not that hard to make the credits you need to buy anything you want. Unless there are some ridiculous prices on your server. I have not purchased a single pack but am still riding around on a Dominator's Command Throne in my set of Classic Despot gear.

As long as the items are tradeable it's a non-issue. If they ever make them not tradeable... that's when I will fully agree with the OP.
