R.A.W (Ranked APAC Warzone) Championship

Hi everyone!

Tonight I'm going to do a big update on the event. Due to multiple requests I have shifted the start time to 04:00PM AEDT. All this will do is make the tournament finish later at night as opposed to the evening.

The tournament will be structured as per below:

Elimination Round - Best of 3 Matches

Semi-Final Round - Best of 3 Matches

Grand Final Round - Best of 5 Matches

There are 8 teams competing in the event. Each team will be randomly assigned a number via a /roll. I will pair teams for the Elimination Round as -

Highest Roll v Lowest Roll

2nd Highest Roll v 2nd Lowest Roll

3rd Highest Roll v 3rd Lowest Roll

4th Highest Roll v 4th Lowest Roll

To make sure everyone see's the fairness of this pairing, I will show the /roll, done in Alphabetical order.

I will then enter all this information into a JPG and post it on the Facebook event, twitter account, twitch.tv channel and here for all to see. It will include start times for all matches.

If a full team doesn't arrive for their scheduled match within 15 minutes of start, they will automatically forfeit, and their opponents will move forward in the championship.

Finally -

Thank you all so much for the support, talkback and feedback. Despite the fact that the server is dying - Master Dar'Nala has some of the best people around. Sure we're all a little jaded and need Bioware to wake up and fix our population issues, but this event wouldn't be possible without you all. So thanks! Go out there, have a great time and enjoy yourselves!

EsKy and I are really looking forward to casting the match. It's going to be tricky to stay the hell out of the way, but we're working on it, and will be as prepared as possible!

NB: I had planned on streaming this, but am relegated to my laptop at the moment, and it refused to stream in any quality that was legible. I tried 3 times.

Don't worry, the event will be streamed and broadcast from a very reliable location and machine. Not this hunk of junk.

Sounds exciting, looking forward to watching it!

However, apart from the satisfaction of calling yourselves the best pvp team out there, I think we can boost the incentive just a bit for the winning team. How does 3mil from us to take the total first prize to 5m sound?

You're on! I never say no to credits... except that one time in Thailand... wait... Nope, I never say no to credits!

Also, I've amended the bracket. Apologies for that!

Good to see the draw up but ewok will be missing several players for the 4pm start... they will still be at work.

They have told me they will be home by 5pm aedt if this is not acceptable to change the start time for us then we may have to withdraw sorry.

Ok guys, I've pushed back to a 5pm Start, but I can't start later than that. As you can see the GF will be an 11pm start.

Help spread the word! If you're competing - Good luck! If you're just watching - Enjoy!

Kudos to the organisers. Great job, I look forward to watching the matches.

I dont mean to be a busy body as the match-ups are already set and everyone seem to be happy. Maybe for future reference. Just my opinion: elimination style tournaments work well when there are rankings involved, like tennis, where there are seeds. Without any sort of ranking, if it so happens that the top two teams are matched in the first round, the second best team will be eliminated in the first round, this leaves the final round less interesting. And any sort if placing other than the champion, inaccurate.

I guess the fairest way is the round-robin format, but then it will probably take too long. What I think is most suitable is a swiss system tournament, where a preset number of matches be played. First round is random. In the second round, the teams are matched based on points, highest with highest and so on. This way, all the teams can play without being eliminated early.

If a grand finals is desired, then the 2 teams with the highest points can go against each other in an elimination round.

Hey mate,

I completely agree. However because this is the first time we've done this, that anyone's done this, it's not really possible to adequately rank the teams for a "fair" draw. We spent a bit of time planning and the random roll seemed the fairest way to do this first tournament.

In future I will use the results from here to schedule a fair draw. Also I will most likely schedule the tournament in a draw format over a few days/ once or twice per week for a few weeks ALA the GSL.

But for a first attempt this should be both fun and fast! Couple of hours of madness!

Hi guys! in my haste to get the bracket completed last night the Semi Finals don't quite match the original intent (since moving EWOKALYPSE to third cab off the rank).

The Semi Finals will be 1v2 and 3v4 and I'll ammend this tonight!

Servers are down tonight so the update may be in the morning. It's my B'day and since I can't SWTOR I will most likely be opening more than a few bottles. ;-)

Unacceptable.

Haha. I kid. Happy Birthday mate.

You're doing good work to get this organised. Don't stress about little details like the tournament style.

With our low pop and the lack of ranked up till now no team has all 'core ranked team' members in their teams anyway, most of them don't have a core team! For example, Midians team wont have some of their more frequent pvpers, there's no way to grade the teams over one night.

Unless ranked becomes a more common thing where you can rank people over a few weeks, then this wont be feasible. Some of the draws are unlucky for some teams, but if they dig deep they might surprise us. ;]

Well, how about we organise friendly matches for the teams that get knocked out while the survivors continue in the finals? We could get the knocked out teams to wait until the survivors get into the match then get them to que so we can ensure the schedule is kept. I know this would interest my guys, as we're obviously going to get knocked out in the first round :)

I thought these games were 7 man teams so that there were 2 observer commentators...and it's streamed live as en eSport. I'd be watching the games.

That is how it will work, there's nothing stopping the teams knocked out making teams of 8 and duking it out as long as they're communicating with the officials and making sure they're not impeding on the other games. I'm sure everyone wont be interested in sitting around watching all the games if they're knocked out first round.
