On the frigate ships there is a radar dish on top, is that the shield generator? There seems to also be a target in the core center of the ship thats blue, i think you need to fire a slavo of missles to hit it.

I have some bonus missions to take out shield generators and can never accomplish it

Each frigate has 2 shield generators in the middle of the back end of the ship ('underneath' the radar dish). They can only be destroyed with missiles (3 or 4, can't remember right now).

do you need to invest in ship upgrades before doing even the easiest ones?

I don't know about all ships, but the Jedi ship comes with *no* shields. You have to buy the shield generator and shield recharger yourself.

My advice is to buy every level 1 ship upgrade EXCEPT the ship armor--you get a free ship armor upgrade when you complete Fondor Escort for the first time.

I'd like to thank you for putting this guide together.

I had literally thrown missions away as too hard, poloth minefield and sullust interception were wiping me out in minutes. Thanks to your guide I learnt about the whirlpool maneuver, realised I was having problems since I never use keyboard turn so had unbound the keys and had another crack.

Both missions completed without me dropping shields once, and I moved on to the next level which weren't much more difficult.

Any here level 50 yet and tried out the space missions in the space near Ilum?

I have a fully upgraded rank 5 ship (cost me about 150k estimated), however I cannot finish any of the 3 missions. I keep getting destroyed well before the end. Saving blaster fire and using more missiles and excessive doding and rolling don't matter that much either.

Up to level 40 all missions were extremely easy and now they are virtually impossible...

I actually bought it out of curiosity and was pleased with the reward. I got a level 50 artifact helmet which matched my class.

Your comment gave me hope for something worthwhile from those epic lockboxes. So after four days I've finaly bought mine.

Epic lvl49 armoring that doesn't even match my class.

So probably you've been just very lucky.

Anyone else got problem with the WASD controls in Space Missions?

W and S seem to work fine, but A and D do nothing for me. Neither do Q, E, or any other button I tried. Could this be related to the fact that I normally have the A and D bound to strafing (as opposed to turning by default) and Q and E to skills?

Also, if this is the case (I can't find any other answer to it?) how would one make them work without going back to default binds? I very much would like to be able to properly dodge asteroids etc. but still retain the A and D as strafing buttons since this is how I've played MMOs for as long as I can remember, and would rather not try to learn a new way just because of Space Missions. =\

One thing I do suggest doing is getting the power conversion module ASAP.

It really makes some of the missions so much easier as you will have stronger blasters and will be able to easily switch modes to have your shields regenerate quite quickly during the more quiet periods of the missions.

To those having problems with the final missions near Ilum (speaking with Imperial experience):

First, something that affects all three of these:

You cannot and will not do them successfully until you have the 6 epic level (purple) grade 5 ship upgrades that are made by Cybertechs. I couldn't even come close until I bought the 6 recipes and made them myself. It was a HUGE difference.

And don't be confused when it says the blaster upgrade says you will have 50 shields or whatever the lower/upper level mods say. They misrepresent themselves as saying that they will ONLY do/have that much, when what they should say is "an ADDITIONAL X amount".

1) The one where you are flying in atmosphere to take out a carrier:

* Save your proton torpedoes for the shield generators, they are pretty much the only way you are goign to take them out

* Ignore the shield generators and other secondary targets on the frigates, just take out the turrets. There are no bonus objectives for the secondary targets and you don't have time to burn them all down.

* There is a point right when you are passing the first two frigates where you can and SHOULD fire on the carrier, you should even be able to get 2 proton torpedoes off.

* Make absolutely sure that you are targeting the shield generators and NOT the carrier bridge with the proton torpedoes. I've made that mistake a couple of times.

2) Defend the station:

* You only need to take out 4 shield generators on frigates, forget the rest and KNOCK OUT THE TURRETS, you will take considerably less damage later.

* Stop firing as often as you can and switch your PCM to shield mode during those times. Even if its just for 3 seconds of shield regen, it becomes well worth it.

* Save your anti-laser fire module for the points where you are moving AWAY from the frigates and TOWARDS the station. These are the two points were you will take the most damage and need the most protection. If it isn't up, you should be barrel rolling constantly to reduce damage taken.

* It is better to save some missiles for taking out the fighters rather than using them on the bombers. You can take out the bombers with your blasters and while against the fighters be recharging your shields.

* The station isn't really in danger of being destroyed if you don't take out every single bomber. If you get 3/4 of each bomber run, you won't fail for that. You are more likely to fail for not taking enough bombers out, but its still easy enough with the upgraded blasters to take them out.

3) The final one, the minefield mission.

* You should have the explosive damage mod by now. Use it once in the middle of the first mine-field, you will automatically take out up to 96 mines, which is more than half your goal of 175. Taking out the rest is cakewalk just by holding the blaster down and running it all over your screen in the next 2 minefields. You can even take plenty of time to blaster down the ships running past you if you want.

* You do NOT need missiles to take out the mines, 1 blaster shot each and they are done for.

* Avoid those asteroids, using just the mouse (no awsd), you can readily avoid all the asteroids. You need to PAY ATTENTION.

* There are NO objectives for taking out fighters, don't go out of your way to destroy them. With the PCM you can easily regen your shields of any damage you take from fighters, but certainly take out the ones you can.

* Use tons of missiles on the Plug-6 heavy fighters, learn where and when they pop out so you can be ready to target them with 5 in a row

* The fighter tenders and mine-layers engines can easily be blastered down after one missile each, use your other missiles on the front and middle of them, then go back to recharging shields and maybe a couple fighters.

* Towards the end, where you are taking out the mine-layer, 4 minutes will have passed so you can use your explosive again right next to it. DON'T EXPECT TO HAVE THAT BE THE ONLY THING TO TAKE IT OUT. You HAVE to use lots of missiles on it as well.

I hope this helps people and the tips that work here also work on the lesser versions of the missions.

Unless I am seriously wrong about this, we can only craft 5 epic pieces. The sixth one (beam generator) is a quest reward from completing either Kalee or Zosha (Republic names, not sure if they are called something else for Empire). So, you'll have to do either Kalee or Zosha with one blue equipped.

Just from my point of view, Zosha is easier than Kalee. It's the hardmode version of the Makem-Te Assault, so anyone who's been doing the missions regularly should be more familiar with it.

Something that seems to be working very well for me is actually unequipping my Proton drive for this mission and only using missiles to kill the shield generators. This is because the proton missiles kind of bug out sometimes and don't fire even if the target is locked. Up to everyone, obviously, but I've been able to complete all the bonus missions this way.

Since I blow my EMP Generator right under the ship, it takes out most turrets immediately and I can just spam missiles on the shield generators and whatever turrets I have left over.

I also think that The Impossible Sector is the easiest of all three Ilum missions, even though it's the last one. I just blow EMP Generator twice to get most of the mines and toggle my shields during slow periods. So far, I discovered 2 bonus missions (destroying the 4 engines and the 4 fighters), but there might be more.

Well, that's kind of.. arguable. If one's looking for the most cost-efficient way to gear ship for those, the steps are:

1) Get all grade 3 gear, excepting beam charger, which you'll want to have grade 5.

2) Get power conversion module + EW pod

3) Run the station defense and capital ship shutdown missions so that you just complete them, don't bother with bonuses yet

4) Receive your purple beam generator(aka grade 6) for the quest

After that, any mission is quite doable with all the bonus objectives attached to it. Depends on server, I suppose, but on the one I'm playing, grade 6 mods cost 25-30k each, which isn't much, but what's the point of wasting 125-150k creds on something you don't even need much?

Shiled generators take around 5 regular missles to destroy. I always(well, since reaching 50 and unlocking better gear) first destroy bridge with proton, unload all regular missles on one of generators, after proton gets reloaded send it toward second one. If everything went fine, again unload all missles on third generator, leaving me with only one to destroy after first bombing run.

As for gear level for final missions - all can be done without epic ship parts.

I read all the discussion and I dont think it is mentionned anywhere

While in an escort mission, can you heal the ship you are escorting by firing at him?

Do you need some upgrade on your ship?

Thx guys

No, there is no way to heal the ship you are escorting.

No. Shuttle is alied, and you shouldn't fire at it(indicated by green slashed circle).

What you have to do in escort mission is to kill fighters before they have time to attack shuttle, and destroy turrets of bigger ships when you get chance.

How many missiles it takes to take out a frigate's shield generators varies on a mission tier basis. The early ones only take 2 missiles each, the mid-level ones take 3 each.

Also I feel the republic missions are somewhat easier in a few ways than the empire ones, mostly because the destructible parts on the empire ships that you fight as a republic player are laid out more simply, especially on the destroyers, that have neat turret farms for you to pop for 20 exp each. Of course the hit locations on the frigates and destroyers becomes second nature with practice, but it's still a lot more elegant on the republic versions.

Here is the guide for the Imperial side :)

http://dulfyforce.wordpress.com/2011/12/28/space-missions-guide/

Thanks, I'll have to go through that and update the names of the missions to include both the Republic and Imperial missions.

Since the missions are nearly identical, it should be easy to do, although I do think the levels you earn the missions is different from one faction to the other (could be wrong). The other differences are minor other than the layout of destructible targets on frigates and destroyers as outlined in the paragraph above.

Well, now I know why Drexel has been such a pain after the others were a complete cakewalk. Glad I decided to google the forums. :p

It hadn't occurred to me that using WASD to move and the mouse to target/fire was possible. I'd been finishing Drexel by the skin of my teeth by dodging madly with the mouse and spamming missiles while using the power conversion module to boost shield recharge. I'd only been doing it successfully about 1 time in 3.

I am sure this is posted somewhere, but where do you spend the fleet commendations to upgrade your ship?

the one thing id like to know is Where do we spend all the fleet coms? I have looked all over havent found a vendor?

There are two Starship Upgrade vendors on the fleet, right beside each other. One of them takes credits and the other one takes commendations. They are both by the Speeder vendor.

If you open your map, you can filter by vendor and then mouseover them to see what they are.

Does anyone know if there is limits or other qualifications for getting the hidden bonus objective?

I ask because on Makem Te Assault I only get the bonus quest complete in 1 out of 5+ missions. This is despite destroying the command deck every time (I see the 500xp so I know it's destroyed).

At first I thought it was a time restraint but that does not seem to be the case.

I have also tested on whether you need to complete the main objective, or the bonus objective before the hidden. Neither seemed to affect it.

I've tested everything I can think of, but still only get the hidden bonus every so often. (I know when it's complete from the green text on screen not to mention in the chat log).

Any ideas?
