  1. I just wanted to post to give you a big thanks for doing all the work to create this guide. It is incredibly useful, especially for someone like me who doesn't know a lot about the real details of what makes a computer run games well, and has a hard time keeping up with this rapidly changing environment. Really terrific post, needs to be stickied if it isn't already.
  2. Great post. That was the essence of what made WoW a fun game. I also remember the run to Stormwind and the excitement of traveling to Scarlet Monastery before you could summon...had to ride through Horde territory and there was always Horde outside the instance, you got a lot of fun PvP as well as the fun of running the instance, good times. Being able to just queue up for dungeons robs these games of the mystery and excitement they used to have. It makes them just retarded process oriented gear grabs, all about materialism, arrogance, braggadocio and other forms of retardation rather than the thrilling adventures they should be. A game that fosters exploration and community based interaction is a game that brings people together and creates something magical. A game that fosters hypercompetitive, redundant gear chasing and status mongering creates a community of alienated, aggressive people who just sap the fun out of everything and drag the game down to the point there is little fun to be had anymore. I really hope Bioware appreciates these things and does NOT do to this game what Blizzard did to theirs for the sake of more subs and appeasing the demands of a vocal minority.
  3. Lol I totally agree OP. I could do without a lot of the stuff people are fiending for, it is as if if an MMO doesn't allow you to sit your fat lazy arse in some capital city and just queue up for dungeons(which you then rush through barely interacting with anyone) while munching hot pockets and inhaling red bull like there is no tomorrow, the game is "unfinished". People need to grow the hell up and play a game instead of depending on all these crutches. And the one thing I hope NEVER makes it into this game is those awful easy mode raid helpers like Deadly Boss Mods, OMG I can't even be bothered to look on my screen to see where the fire is, I need an effing alarm to tell me when I am standing in it...or, I can't be bothered to read up on boss mechanics, I need my screen to flash red and a hammer to come out of the monitor and bonk me on the head so I remember to avoid boss x's shi*storm of doom or whatever...give me a break why not just hire someone to play the game for you lol.
  4. I agree. As a Jedi, I simply want to wear the traditional robe etc, but from what I've seen of the end game gear I will end up looking like a robot Samurai...it is kind of ridiculous. Being able to choose the appearance of your character is a big deal in MMOs these days, it really is one of those things that let's people be creative and endears them to a game.
  5. I kind of agree...given the way modern MMOs work, with several different playstyles available, I think it is at least fair to allow a dual spec system within an Advanced Class. I don't see how this can actually hurt.
  6. I'd like to make a post of appreciation for this truly incredible game. I've played "video games" of one kind or another since the 70's, and I have rarely been as impressed as I am with this game...and I am only up to level 25. Bioware has done an incredible job of capturing the "feel" of Star Wars...the graphical style is perfectly suited to the Star Wars universe, and despite its detractors, I am 100% sure that a more realistic graphical style would have been both far less impressive, and far less suited to this game. The combat to me is one of the best I have played in an MMO. I am playing a Sentinel, and the lack of auto attack, plus variety of skills, allows for some really impressive combat maneuvering...the only minor gripe I have atm is I wish that crippling throw had a somewhat longer range, as is you have to be practically in melee range and it reduces the opportunity to perform nifty chains of Lightsaber attacky goodness. The incorporation of story into an MMO is also awesome...I have experienced zero boredom while leveling, a first for me in any MMO, even one I am experiencing for the first time. It really fleshes out the MMO experience and adds a lot to the feeling you are playing a character with a life story instead of just some pixelated tool used for accumulating stuff so you can accumulate even more stuff. I guess people with no interest in RP or being immersed in the game world may not be so hot on the story thing, but really IMHO if that is the way you feel, the MMO genre is really not for you, you ought to be playing FPS games or something like that. The production standards in this game are also incredibly high, especially for an MMO at launch. I really find the people nitpicking this and that and comparing this launch to WoW's amusing, as they obviously didn't experience the same launch I did, with the constant server resets and various other bugs that took them a good 6 months to sort out. And the talent trees were the work of a 5 year old compared to the system this game is launching with...half of them were fairly useless and some were just completely broken. All in all, I just wanted to say thanks to Bioware for putting an incredible amount of work, and more than that, CARE into creating this amazing game. Are there a few things that probably ought to be added? Of course. But the game has just launched, and frankly I think people are really shooting themselves in the foot by obsessing over things like combat logs, UI customizability, add-ons, and the rest instead of sitting back, relaxing, and enjoying this truly awesome gaming experience.
  7. Lol come on...body type 2 is a fairly normal human male body type, what exactly do you want? I agree maybe one more size between 2 and 3 would have been nice, but it is a lot better than most other MMOs I've played. Certainly not bad enough to force you to play as a female of male characters are your preference, at least IMO. Edit: Oh, body 2 is especially normal looking once you slap some armor and stuff on it, it looks like a very well balanced male body.
  8. These are all standard MMO features! Bioware how can you makes a game and not include these deal breaking features!
  9. Yes, 90% of the 70+ US servers are full because people don't like the game. Unfortunately, the SWTOR forums have become a hang out for emotionally immature adults who have no conception of the difference between a game and a life partner. To compare the complaints on these forums with the incredible quality of the game itself gives anyone with half a brain in their head a clear picture of who and who isn't acting like a complete idiot. The quality of this game is so high in my opinion that you truly have to be a stereotypical hot pocket eating, living in your mom's basement zombie to complain the way some of these people do given the obvious extreme effort and care that have been lavished on this game. I actually find it kind of sickening, I had hoped this particular form of retardation would be absent from these forums, but given the developmentally disabled overreaction a certain percentage of Star Wars "Fans" had towards the prequels, I should have expected as much. I think for some people it's time to grow up and stop expecting a video game to deliver your deepest inner fantasies, and to have enough consideration for others to stop degrading the quality of the forums every time you log in and the game doesn't have a fresh diaper and a sippy cup ready for your gratification.
  10. I just don't get it...drag the item you want to sell into the little box, set a price and duration and clicky, you are done. What is the issue?
  11. And how is it difficult to USE A DROP DOWN TO SEARCH FOR WHAT YOU ACTUALLY WANT TO BUY?!?! I've used auction houses in games for close to 10 years now, and I don't remember ONCE just hitting search and browsing whatever comes up. I also can't recall not knowing the item category whatever search term I had entered belonged to, as such things are almost always blindingly obvious...so what is the real motivation behind these requests?
  12. Ya, so you can global search by buyout and resell crap for three times what it is worth right? I like it the way it is, at least it keeps this plague called reselling somewhat in check.
  13. I don't know why people can't just pick a name that fits with Star Wars and enjoy the game. Names like that are just silly, juvenile, and annoying. I'd be happy if Bioware took this kind of nonsense seriously for once so we can have a mature environment rather than a junior high cafeteria, it would be a nice change of pace.
  14. I feel you dude, and I also think that people who roll on RP servers with no intention to RP are ignorant arses with no respect for other peoples preferences (especially with the HUGE number of other choices created EXACTLY for them!), but the best you can do is report names that violate the naming rules...and I am pretty sure both of the ones you mentioned do.
  15. They also said they have invited everyone who has preordered already...
  16. Why the HELL would you want to ADD a game to Steam? That beast will claim your firstborn, sleep with your wife, and give you brain cancer, and that is AFTER it makes your games take 10 minutes to load and sometimes won't load them at all! Dude, count your blessings and click the little SWTOR icon on your desktop to launch the game.
  17. Actually I hope they leave this. It is perfectly functional as it is for people looking to buy something...what this does is prevent resellers from simply mass searching for cheap items to rip others off with by reposting at a higher price. Sure they can search by category, but it will take more time. If you like playing economic strategy games, go and do that. Gets old hearing "that is how I like to play" being thrown around as an excuse for abusing the system and ripping other players off. And no, I don't care about free market theories, it is a game, and players should have enough respect for each other to not engage in this type of BS.
  18. Darnit looking all over the net for answers, this is going to drive me insane if I have to play like this.
  19. Does it become a queue queue? ...just sayin'?
  20. Hmm...the native resolution is 1920x1080...my desktop is also set to this, and the characters still appear stretched. I tried the 1920x1200 thing and that didn't work. : / Hope these is a way to correct this!
  21. Thanks, gonna log in and try that right now.
  22. Hey all, I recently bought a new widescreen monitor(my old one was ancient so it was about time!) but now my SWTOR character looks like a real chubster. I am using the recommended 1920x1080 resolution. Is there any setting I can use that will eliminate this effect, because I find it really disturbing. Although the new monitor is much larger, in a way it was more enjoyable on my old square 17", as at least everything was proportional. Any help would be truly appreciated!
  23. Lol naw I don't look at young people that way...they learn most if not all of their bad habits from us adults, whether we will admit it or not.
