  1. This is pretty much my philosophy. I won't kill lowbies if they don't attack me (although I do like to follow them around to make them nervous). The only time I interfere in a 1v1 is to kill the winner if it is someone I can kill. Or if it is a ffa zone, I will jump in and try to kill them both. Other than that, if it's red, it's dead (it's redemption, cool story bro). Rules are for warzones, your own honor to strangers is whatever you feel like.
  2. That is a powder keg. Instead of looking at how dumb this is (because it is), look at it as an opportunity. Grab an orb for yourself, jump in the middle of the line and start attacking one guy. Get him below half health before you die, he'll explode when you explode causing double explosions to everyone around them, causing them to explode and exploding the others around them in a chain reaction. Get a few friends to help and you can kick these carebears out of the PvP zone in no time (or at least make them whine).
  3. I've gotta disagree here. The masses will most definitely PvP if you start fighting them. Get a group of four people together, cause some chaos, stir the hornet nest. Everyone is on edge in the PvP zone, it doesn't take much to get people firing on each other. And causing damage to gear only further disincentives PvP, because who wants to fight if it is going to drain their unrelated funds? Old Ilum had rewards for open world PvP and it was abused to the point of insanity. You shouldn't need a reason to fight other than a desire to fight. The point of the event is to get a bunch of people together so that they can fight, the objective should be secondary if you want to fight people. I've had the most fun since the days of old Ilum when we actually got groups together and fought each other in random encounters. Except this time there is no faction imbalance to be concerned about.
  4. Gonna have to agree here, I've been having so much fun on Ilum causing chaos. Pushing people off of ice bridges, killing orb holders in lines while holding your own to cause a chain reaction, getting killed trying something crazy. This event certainly created some fascinating gameplay.
  5. In this case, your best option is to make sure you reach Valor rank 40 when you hit level 40 and also have capped WZ commendations, so you can buy ranked commendations as soon as possible. Then grind out warzones until you have maxed regular/ranked commendations before you hit level 50. The ranked to normal commendations have a 1:1 ratio, but with this method you can have up to 6250 commendations to spend right as you hit 50 allowing you to buy most of a full set of War Hero gear.
  6. The important thing to always remember is to fight on capture points if you are defending. Attackers want to draw you out so somebody can sneak in and capture and you cannot let that happen. The few times I break this rule it usually causes a domino effect that results in a loss from negative attitudes. You can only rely on your teammates to do this if you know them and trust them to either defend against capture or tell you when you when a capture is occurring. As an attacker, the opposite is true. If you can pull the fight away from a control point, your own teammates can sneak a capture. There are times when fighting in a large brawl on a point are appropriate, but often pulling defenders out is the best option. If your team is going for a capture and the enemy team is respawning, intercepting them before they interrupt the capture can win you the game. Learn the map layout so you can communicate effectively. Calling incoming enemies is vital to success and allows your team to respond. Usually the common terminology is based on cardinal directions, but there are some exceptions. -The Voidstar Warzone assault points are often referred to as left or right based on your spawn exit. -In Alderaan Civil War, the side control points are called Grass and Snow (one side is predominately grass, the other snow) and middle. -The Pylons in Ancient Hypergate are oriented on the East and West and are usually referred to as such. The same applies to Novare Coast, with the lower middle point referred to as "South". In Huttball, passing the ball will win you the game. If you are not in possession of the ball and the ball carrier is not under attack, moving ahead to get into position for a pass is usually the go-to. Knockbacks are important in controlling the battlefield, so learning about the resolve system is necessary to avoid making an important target immune to them. Based on your experience this stuff should come fairly naturally, but I hope this helps. Oh yea, and I haven't played WoW in years so I don't know what Battlegrounds have come out since WotLK, but I'll do my best to present you with the analogues I know. Alderaan Civil War is similar to Arathi Basin, with 3 capture points instead of 5. Huttball... the closest I can think of is Eye of the Storm, because it is like 1 flag CTF, but instead of getting the ball to your goal you have to advance it toward the enemy goal and there are no neutral points to capture. Voidstar is like Strand of the Ancients sans the vehicles. There are two assault points at each stage of the warzone. As for Ancient Hypergate and Novare Coast, both have fairly unique mechanics compared to WoW BGs so there is no real analogue.
  7. I've had a lot of fun and satisfaction with Cartel Coins, buying packs and unlocking legacy stuff that would take me quite a while to save credits for. It isn't a tangible product, sure, but I love this game and I don't see the money I've invested in it as a waste. It could be worse, I could have bought cigarettes and literally burned my money while harming my body.
  8. I've been leveling as an Infiltration Shadow (level 33), and I don't think it's too bad. You are capable of dealing a lot of damage if you use your Shadow Strikes and Project at the right time. For early pvp I would recommend sticking to combat technique as you'll need the survivability with less abilities, but as you get higher and acquire more ways to deal damage you can use shadow technique safely. It isn't a great spec for leveling, but you will be a better player for it if you can excel with it.
  9. You can level biochem without diplomacy, but you will only be able to create the green medpacs/stims/implants. You won't be able to make adrenals or anything you learn from reverse engineering because they all require blue/purple materials. One of the greatest benefits of Biochem is the ability to make reusable consumables, but if you are willing to give that up during leveling you should be able to reach max level (or close to it).
  10. You can use the HTN to overcome the same-faction only mailing system, it's just a bit more of a hassle because both characters have to travel to Nar Shaddaa. I don't know if it was intended for us to buy stuff from our other characters, but it certainly gives the HTN a valuable function for people who play both factions.
  11. This. This. A thousand times this. I'm doing this on my Sniper (currently 32) after purchasing my level 40 gear so when I hit 50, I'll have a few pvp pieces to give me a shot (because I'm a Sniper). OP said "I should have listened and stayed 49.." so he was aware that geared 50's would be a problem, yet he did nothing to jumpstart his gear acquisition? Bad planning for a poor situation. And yes, it is going to suck hard for fresh 50's who don't read the forums. Best solution I can think of short of removing expertise is to implement a larger-style battle a la Alterac Valley wherein you can lean on your teammates for support more reliably. Or the Expertise/Adventuring gear idea someone posted not long ago.
  12. I wait on bated breath to transfer my 50 Sorc to the server my friends/guild flocked to. Everyone is getting congrats on being the first guild 50's when I hit 50 2 weeks before them

    PvP Healer love

I'm fully geared for pvp (mostly champ, a few centurion) and it is utterly ridiculous over-exaggeration. I will get top healing in nearly every warzone but I come nowhere close to that amount of damage. I rarely even come close to 300k healing unless it is on Voidstar. I've never seen a friendly or enemy sage/sorc capable of getting both 300k medals in a single Warzone.
  14. Pretty much this. I don't make quite as much as quickly, but on my artificer I just craft the same artifact level 48 focus and rake in cash. The market is there despite what these forums will tell you, it just isn't as personally beneficial.
  15. Something like this happened on my server too, a Pub jumped on a particle cannon conveniently located outside their base and blasted everyone away. We eventually beat them back to their base (to my chagrin), but we actually did have some good fighting going on.
  16. Let's back up for a second. How is it exactly that a group of people coming together to exploit the system and afk farm the devs fault? Why don't you blame the rotten apples who pull this kind of crap who intend to ruin things for everyone because they don't want to play? If everyone stops doing this standing around in large groups and camping bases, guess what happens. REAL PVP. On Sword of Ajunta Pall we have a lot of Empire camping the Republic base, but a lot of people have noticed that if the Empire backs off and lets the Republic out, really awesome battles break out. The entire situation is a player created problem and it requires players to actually want to play the game for fun to work properly. Is there still tweaking to be done? Most certainly, Bioware has to think of new and creative ways to stop these boring ways for people to exploit. But you can not simply blame Bioware because people are too pathetic and lazy to actually play the game.
  17. I lose a lot to Republic. The games are fast paced an intense. Republic players put up a good fight and make the game fun.
  18. Republic on your server sound awesome. On Sword of Ajunta Pall earlier today, while we had like 2 ops groups camping the Republic base, about 8 Pubs camped our base and actually held pretty well. And I rarely see the Republic leaving from the side that isn't being camped (since Imps dogpile on one side).
  19. I'm personally shocked at all the fully decked out Battlemaster Imperials running around on my server! They were handed valor on a platter, not complaining that they weren't getting very much valor or that it was a waste of time! It is sickening to think that so many people, in one day with the possibility of 4 bags, that they all got a FULLY GEARED character. I am so mad at Bioware that I'll keep playing! Seriously, anybody who got to battlemaster because of this is in an extreme minority. Empire may get valor more rapidly than in Warzones, but it isn't so wildly out of hand that every Imperial gets to skip the grind to 60 (and don't kid yourselves, this is still a grind). And has any Republic player tried sneaking onto a particle cannon? Someone did it earlier and wiped out 20+ Imperials before we knew what had happened and the Pubs broke out and actual pvp happened. Play smarter if you don't have the numbers.
  20. Cool idea, sorta into that kinda thing. And lol@the people raging. As if they did this to encourage people to not cancel.
  21. I was at the Republic base for about 15 minutes and I saw no advantages to camping the base. I got zero valor and nothing accomplished on my daily/weekly. It's just a bunch of pathetic Imperials whining because there aren't enough Republic to grief. Note: I'm not saying that others aren't getting valor/objectives, but it isn't universal and it isn't worth doing. The Imperials are wasting their time for meager rewards.
  22. I leveled as Corruption and used Ashara exclusively when I got her. Enemies die fairly quickly with her out, and an elite mob with me using dots and healing her we were able to handle anything pretty well. I've benched her since I started Ilum because I actually need a tank (PvE got hard!), but if I'm in a 2-3 man group and I can have a dps, I bring her. She has the best gear among my companions, although Xalek is getting close.
  23. I've actually encountered a lot of sages who put out good damage in Warzones. Then I see the scoreboard and they are healers. I like to think of them as my nemesis for doing the same thing I do =P And if anyone knows of the Sage named Master Jedi (Jedi is his name, Master is the title he uses) on Sword of Ajunta Pall, tell him Racecaroon respects his awesomeness.
  24. You must not play many ranged classes in PvP. It isn't impossible to track melee running through you every second, but it sure as hell isn't fun. The autofacing may seem unfair to melee, but that should encourage you to use your interrupts and cc more effectively rather than try to re-gimp ranged classes. And autoface is pretty much a necessity for Snipers/Gunslingers who have to be stationary for best damage output.
  25. Yea... There seems to be something off about it. The tooltip makes it seem as though there is an initial heal, but the closest I get is an immediate tick. The Sage in that video is obviously better geared than I am, but even his ticks weren't healing as much as that initial.
