  1. That was a fun one. I'll also never forget E3 2009, when BioWare said they were going to reveal SWTOR to the world and then only demoed it to a handful of people in the media. That was the first thread that I remember reaching the post limit.
  2. As others have said, you don't need more than 16 GB; in fact, you don't really need more than 8 GB. I currently have 8 GB and run the game on max settings. SWTOR is a 32-bit game, so the most it would ever use would be 2 GB (technically it's possible to use 3 GB but it requires changes to the client system to do that). The only real benefit you would see from adding RAM is more room to run multiple memory-intensive applications at once. But unless you're currently close to your memory limit with your normal workload, you're much better off saving your money to upgrade either you CPU or GPU.
  3. So basically what you're saying is that it's irresponsible for someone to choose when to take the vacation that they've earned? Congratulations, that may be one of the most ridiculous things I've heard all year. I am a lead developer at a large software development company, and I am taking the last two weeks of the year off like I do almost every year. I can assure you that, in the software industry, there is really no good time to take vacation. Our company recognizes this, and actually encourages development teams to take time off at the same time (usually around the holidays). Since software development requires a lot of collaboration, having several people on a team out can slow the development process, so it actually makes more sense to have a number of people take vacation at the same time. It is fair to ask why there isn't a patch today. And it's also fair that the answer might be that a large number of the development team is on vacation right now. This doesn't discount how annoying some of the current issues are, but if we have to wait a bit longer for fixes so that the developers can spend time with their families, I personally think that's a fair tradeoff. After all, understanding proper work/life balance is actually one of the most responsible things you can do...
  4. /signed The class stories are the best part of SWTOR in my opinion, and one of the things that really sets it apart from other MMOs. No more class stories ever would be a major disappointment for me, and would make me question whether I want to continue playing or not.
  5. I'm guessing you didn't read what Master-Nala was responding to.
  6. I've had it happen before. Not often grant you, and usually only when I'm running with people I know. But it does happen from time to time. Even if it didn't though, you can't really blame the game when the players act in a stupid manner.
  7. Honestly I'm not sure you could get a very informative answer, other than "it is working as designed". The only way to really prove that you have an n% chance to hit an event is to run infinite (or at least a very large number of) iterations and examine the results. Naturally that's not really feasible, so all they could say is "the code is written to give you an n% chance. And that doesn't necessarily tell you if it is mathematically correct, since it's not really possible to create a true RNG on most machines.
  8. I thought the graphics update included with 2.3 was the only one that was planned. I could be wrong though.
  9. Wahoo! Yeah I finally got him twice as well. Funny enough, after that, I got him 4 times in a row trying to get Novane again.
  10. I had the most luck on Nar Shaddaa, but he eluded me for a while as well.
  11. I played during the last beta weekend, and found the game to be quite boring and bland. Maybe it gets better after level 20 or something, but I definitely did not find it amazing.
  12. Same. Elder Scrolls are some of my favorite games, and having one in an MMO setting definitely has me interested. Other than that, there really isn't much that interests me. I tried FF14, but combat was so boring and bland for me. Wildstar looks like it could be interesting, but something about it just doesn't grab me for some reason. EQnext has me intrigued, but I'm waiting to see if they can deliver on their promises.
  13. That has been my experience as well. I generally role with a DPS on my tanks and healers, and a healer on my DPSers. I have used tanks before, but while they do work, they are far less efficient than DPS and healer companions (given same gear level). That said, I do use a couple of tank companions just because I happen to like them. Like Blizz.
  14. Same. Hoping I'll get him/her/it today. Ideally twice.
  15. This is the sort of stuff I value more than gear level honestly. As a healer I've gotten into HMs in which both DPS were in 58s, and we still cleared the instance without wipes because they knew what they were doing. if I had to choose between someone in lower level gear who knew what to do, and someone in higher level gear who repeatedly acted foolishly, I'd pick the former.
  16. It happened to me, but in my case it was due to an AOE while I was driving by. Felt like a train ran me over.
  17. How do you define the threshold? For example, after I level a toon to 55, I always run the dailies and weeklies long enough to get a full set of 66 gear from the vendor before doing 55 HMs. However, since they don't carry belts/bracers, I leave those at 58. Would I not qualify if you set the gear check at 66? What about when fully geared toons in my guild bring along fresh 55s just to help them get gear? Maybe I've just been lucky, but I just haven't experienced this issue with under geared people. Occasionally I do see them in FPs, but we hardly ever wipe as a result of that, because the content is pretty trivial. Usually when we wipe it's due to someone not knowing the mechanics of a fight, and has nothing to do with level of gear.
  18. If you only have a single character, I could see that being an annoyance. But I don't really see a problem with the daily limit if you have multiple characters.
  19. I agree, I am really enjoying the event so far. The shady characters mechanic is pretty stupid, but considering we still have chickens clickable quest objectives that have to respawn, I'm not really surprised by that. That being said, I only had one instance yesterday across four characters of someone trying to ninja from me. I'm sure the starter planets were worse, but luckily you can avoid those... I honestly found the Czerka dailies to be much more frustrating.
  20. I play on max settings in a two year old laptop and the only time I lag is on the fleet. So playing on a laptop is definitely not the problem.
  21. I'd like to see something like this as well. Basically I'd like to see dailies unlock new areas of content, similar to dynamic events in other games. The unlocked areas could be harder; maybe some of them could even require a group and offer better rewards as a result. That could provide people an incentive to do dailies even after they no longer need the comms.
  22. Agreed. Honestly I'd rather they make the legacy name unique and use that as your identifier, and then allow duplicate character names. It would be a lot easier to keep track of friends that way, rather than needing to know every one of their alts. OP, I feel for you. I lost 5 of 6 character names in the first set of merges last year, names that I reserved during the first wave of early access invites on December 13. Most of them haven't been played in quite some time (or at least I haven't seen them on). But unfortunately there's nothing you can really do. If you need help coming up with new names, I've used http://www.seventhsanctum.com/index-name.php in the past and have been pretty pleased with the results.
  23. Agreed, and I'm not really sure how you could accidentally delete a character with that in place. If they wanted to go a step further, they could also have an undo option for a minute after you delete a character. But to me it sounds like this is no accident, so it wouldn't really help in this case. The OP gets no sympathy from me; if you delete your characters, be prepared to face the consequences.
  24. I have played since launch, and started leveling my latest alt about a month ago. I have not really noticed much of a difference. From my experience, usually when I notice that I'm not leveling as fast as I feel I should be, it's due to a change in behavior (I.e. not doing group quests/FPs, not doing bonuses, actively avoiding as many mobs as possible, doing quests in congested areas that have already been completely cleared, etc.). But I also never do war zones, so if there is a difference there I would not have noticed it.
