  1. <sigh> Obviously if this forum was just full of new players then no help would be provided, because everyone would generally be as ignorant as everyone else. This forum is for players to ask questions and have someone answer questions. You asked a question ("why would this in any way be an exploit?") ... I provided an answer. As for your other question, you earn commendations by doing quests not just killing players. And I'm sorry if you still think that saying that someone is ignorant about something is in some way rude. Providing a dictionary definition I thought would help enlighten you and remove that particular ignorance, but it seems to have just enraged you. And just FYI - it isn't what I think ignorance means, it is the actual meaning of it. If you were ignorant of that then I humbly apologise.
  2. You could use this in a flashpoint or operation, so that you can always target the same enemy as your tank. In this way you're sure that focus fire is taking place and you won't be pulling agro on the 'wrong' enemy.
  3. If you re-read my post you'll see I was providing information for you, and you seemed genuinely ignorant about why what you were proposing could be considered an exploit. I provided the answer to illuminate that ignorance, without reverting to call you names. Saying you seemed ignorant of X isn't an insult. If I'd just said you were ignorant, full stop then sure - that's rude. ig·no·rant/ˈignərənt/ Adjective: Lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated. Lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular: "ignorant of astronomy". I was using the second form of this, not the first. An example of PvP farming deemed an exploit was the kill-trading that used to happen on Ilum, whereby players just sat there trading kills for the commendations with no intention of having a serious fight.
  4. Ok, you're crazy. You've obviously never played an MMORPG (no, SecondLife or GW don't count) as this is the way it is always set up. Your concept of access point also makes no sense, because what would be the point of logging on to a server 'because it is close to you' if actually the game servers are all in one place (which would be needed if they all managed a single world). Servers are in different locations to deal with the natural latency you'll get from connecting from far-flung locations ... west coast USA, east coast USA, Europe, Asia, Oceanic etc.
  5. What you actually need to know is that there is a great post at the top of this forum called "New Player Fleet Pass" and within that are a number of extremely helpful threads that answer basic questions about the game mechanics. In particular you want to start with the post that explains what PRIMARY STATS are, as it also covers the secondary stats like power, crit, surge etc.
  6. What he's saying is that there isn't a stat that increases healing for every companion. Some companions use aim, some use cunning, some use willpower. The PRIMARY STAT of your companion is the one that increases their healing (and their damage, and everything else they do). In your case, with that companion, their primary stat is cunning - so they use cunning to increase their healing. Clear?
  7. Just to state things clearly, in case you seriously don't understand. The point of PvP isn't to shoot fish in a barrel, it is to engage in serious contests of competence against others who are equally skilled ... it isn't just killing players who are 40 levels lower than you and aren't even trying to fight back. I'd hoped that bit was obvious, but if your ignorance was genuine then it obviously needed stating.
  8. Because you're talking about farming commendations in an exploitive way, rather than earning them. Sending your buddies, who are massively under-levelled, to an area so that you can repeatedly kill them (because they're never going to be able to provide a decent fight and be able to compete are they), just so you can earn commendations sounds exactly like farming to me.
  9. Maybe you misread, or he was just saying things with regards to Blade and Soul, because it certainly isn't impossible. There've been MMO's with decent hard-body physics before (auto-assault is one prominent example that springs to mind) and there are others in development right now (linked from various posts by OP). And yes, for everything that isn't simply a trivial special effect the physics needs to be on the server - but also on the client, which is why networked 100% deterministic Newtonian physics engines are not actually that common. Again, the term 'physics engine' covers a whole spectrum of things from fluid dynamic modelling systems all the way down to something that simply applies a 'force' to objects so they fall to the floor, so really we need to be talking about the features in question rather than just saying "physics engine".
  10. Yeah I never noticed on my first character either, and logically (always dangerous bringing logic into it ...) you'd think that 'cargo hold = ship'. Never mind how things magically move between planet based holds and ship, meh, sod logic. But yeah, good to know you can use it before you get your ship. I always use it to store crafting goods while levelling up to leave home planet, and any 'extra' oranges I come across.
  11. No, but what is an example of collision detection being an issue is 2 players standing in front of a doorway and blocking it completely so that others can't enter. If the griefers are doing their job properly then this will be an important room, such as where the class trainers are or where important quests end. Actually, think of the entrance to the spaceport on Tython ... that could easily be blocked by just 2 or 3 people, and then those players would have essentially trapped everyone on planet, and prevented arrivals by shuttle from coming on to the planet. As someone said earlier "it is as if it was designed to not have collision detection" ... which is exactly what has happened.
  12. Well you'd be wrong - PhysX is an engine, it is a middle-ware physics engine. Physics engines tie into a large number of areas of the game engine and aren't just isolated black-boxes. A game engine may be written as if the physics engine is a black box, and other physics engines can be changed in and out without the game caring which is used, but as a general rule if the engine wasn't written to use things like rag-doll, soft-body, hard-body and whatever other kind of physics you desire then you can't just merge it in without a serious, serious amount of work. A physics engine supports a range of features. So when you're talking about Euphoria what you're really talking about is a bunch of features you'd be interested in, not the whole tech. So as for them being compatible? No. As for BW programmers being able to add feature X, Y and Z ... sure they could. If they wanted, and if it was a good idea. There are some serious design considerations needed with a game that supports destructible environments, for example, considerations that I'm 99% sure weren't dealt with when SW:TOR was being designed. And quite rightly, because they had no intention of using destructible environments so why should they worry about them?
  13. Not sure what you're asking really. The video just shows some ragdoll physics - is that what you're wanting in SWTOR or is it other features of Euphoria that weren't shown?
  14. PULL Choose your route through enemies you want to avoid more carefully then. Or mount up so your companion is not even out ... maybe you'll find then that sometimes it is you triggering a pull and not them. TAUNT Just to restate, if you don't want your companion to taunt then how is turning taunt off handicapping you? The whole idea is that you set up and use your companions how you want to play. If you want your companion to taunt and grab agro off you then leave their taunt ability on. If, as you seem to want, you DON'T want them to grab agro off you then turn it off. How is that handicapping when it is doing exactly what you want?
  15. At 50 you're not progressing through the story anymore, so I'd suggest what you were reading wasn't about gearing companions for progression. If you're having problems gearing out your companions then you aren't looking hard enough. I'm always getting gear dropped that is no good to me but has the right stats for one of my companions. Some quests even give you a choice of reward, with either option being at item for a particular companion. Say a part for T7 or a leg item for Kira. You choose. As for your main gripe about companions, that they do more harm than good and get in your way then I humbly suggest you are not playing very well. IF you've turned off their taunt ability (which you say is somehow gimping the play?!? If you want your companion to taunt and grab agro then leave it on, if you want to tank and agro then turn it off), and you can't hold agro on yourself then you're not doing enough damage to maintain their interest. The basic taunt also has a fairly quick cool-down so can be used again if you are stuck with low-dps compared to your companion. Some companions go even further and have an ability that actively lowers their threat (thinking of T7 here) so make sure you're using that if you solely want the agro on you. I think your frustrations would be better spend learning what you are doing wrong rather than trying to change a game-system that only you seem to have a problem with. You started by saying it was because it breaks lore, but when pushed reveal it is because you're having problems using the system. Learn the system and accept that it is a part of the game. If you really don't like it then you've been given some options, but continuing to be annoyed about it (rather than leaving and finding a game you like) only hurts you, not us.
  16. You can actually use your cargo hold before you get your ship. On Coruscant the cargo hold access is near the GTN terminals, in the lower senate market area.

Read the New Players Fleet Pass stickied at the top of this forum. Within there is a post about the Legacy system
  18. I guess this shows that different people do things differently The only time I won't revive at the point of defeat is when I've been taking a repeated pounding and the revive time is up to 9 minutes. In those cases I will go back to a med centre and seriously rethink things. Otherwise I'll revive at point of death always, because if you don't you've then got a walk (sometimes long) back to where you wanted to be in the first place. Another general principle for the list, if you're going to use colours in your message rather than just the default white then choose them carefully ... some colours will be hard to read on a blue background and make the eyes hurt.
  19. No, there is no way to use medpacs on companions.
  20. Yeah they exist - your artificer friends needs to look harder! Insensate Resistance D-Shield Generator is one example, usable at level 25 that adds willpower, endurance, force power and defence rating. There are a lot more being added with patch 1.2 though.
  21. As the previous guy said, you can get there at level 7. You don't need to finish the planet, or finish your class quests, just reach level 7 however you like and then you can shuttle to the fleet.
  22. The link they sent you to for information specifically says "No specific date has been confirmed at this time" so it seems unlikely you'd get a date confirmed in the forum if they haven't actually announced one yet.
  23. Are you Republic or Empire? If Republic then you should probably play a Jedi Knight or Consular, or even a Trooper or Smuggler. If you're Empire then you might find that a Sith Warrior or Inquisitor is more your thing, and if not then a Bounty Hunter or Imperial Agent will probably be right up your street. Seriously though, if you've changed class a number of times then just keep doing that until you find one you like. Just because someone here says such-and-such a class is the one you should play doesn't mean you will like it, so just try them all. You can have 8 chars per server and a total of 40 chars all together so just do it.
  24. When you do want to give more feedback you should probably do it in a more appropriate forum rather than "New Player Help" which isn't really for this kind of thing. It's here so people can ask stupid questions and not be patronised too much Anyway, there was one 'new player help' worthy aspect to your post here (concerning comparative tool tips) so I guess this one just about scrapes though ...
