  1. Yep by default your companion will only retaliate, which means you have to take a hit before they leap to your defence. As poster above me says you can manually send them in first though - either by clicking their 'attack' button or using the shortcut of CTRL-1
  2. But if you're dying a lot in warzones then why bother buying vaccines? The effect will be lost when you die. The total effect is 20 mins long from infection to death, which is way way longer than a hutball match ... so unless you're never dying in a warzone it won't be running its full course. So combined with you dying a lot I'm not sure how these infections are having as massive an impact as you say. But I agree that catching it towards the end of a match (and not dying), then having it develop between matches, and then you entering a new match while it is well developed could be annoying.
  3. As has been pointed out to you, what you say is wrong - and your speculation is wrong. If you say a 'greed' beat a 'need' then it was a bug and should be reported, but you should have some screen-shots to back it up to help devs find the problem. So if you see it again be sure to grab a screenshot. As has been said in this thread: - Anyone who chooses 'need' gets dealt with first by rolling the die, if there is only one person selecting 'need' then they win - If no-one selected 'need' then the 'greed' pool of people is dealt with by rolling dice That's it, pure and simple. Anything else is a mis-read or a bug.
  4. The problem really was how the event was communicated. There was no email, no in-game information (like something in your mail, a holocron message, or some other way of saying "the end is nigh"), there was nothing on the launcher, there was no blog post, and even the post advertising the event made no mention of an end-date (even after the event had ended it was still there as if the event was still live!). Communication on the event ending was purely done through a single post in the 'general' forum! A very large number of people don't go anywhere near that forum, because it is full of anger and idiots. A large number of people don't even come to these forums ... they play the game and expect to able to learn everything they need from the game itself, backed up by the odd excursion for specific information. For some people they only found out about the event ending after it happened, because they came to the forums to find out what they were supposed to do with their DNA. Forum reading shouldn't be compulsory for an in-game event, so this communication was handled poorly.
  5. You've had some great advice in this thread, but here's one more piece for you in case you run into other difficult situations. If you think something as fundamental as NPC difficulty is completely wrong, but other players aren't in outcry and the forums aren't full of serious complaints, then there are two possible interpretations here: everyone else is wrong, or you are wrong. In these kinds of situations it will nearly always be you that is wrong, and so your best option is to find out what you are doing wrong rather than to ask for the game to change around you.
  6. Yeah don't throw them away. If you have a look at the dev posts forum you'll see there was an unclear message about how the vendor will be leaving when the event ends but he may be back. Personally I just sold all that I had left when I was ready to log off. It was a great way for lower levels to compete in a market on a level footing with higher levels. So I sold 16 DNA samples for 100k towards the end of the event to a level 50. For the lvl 50 those credits were pretty insignificant, but for the character selling them that 100k was very useful. Lots of people thought my prices were extortionate, until they realised no one was selling them for the 2k each they were hoping for By the time they agreed to pay more everyone selling them had already offloaded their stock.
  7. I completely agree, when it is done by people who are fully aware of the way loot rolls work - and there are certainly ninjas out there who don't give a flying fig about others and will keep doing this for as long as they can get away with it. But new players, who don't know the rules because they've never been exposed to this need/greed concept that people like you and me have ingrained from many other games, just don't know any better ... and passing on the information about how it works is a better thing to do that treat them like the first group of people (who *are* scum!). Ninja's generally don't post in the forum asking what they are doing wrong, because they know exactly what they've done wrong and don't care.
  8. Despite what some may say, it isn't really obvious if you are a new player the difference between need and greed. 'Need' in English language isn't 100% clear. Do I 'need' something because I need to make money? I have a real need to make money, so I can purchase a better speeder ... but in MMO loot rolls that isn't 'need', that is greed. Others have stayed away from the 'greed' button because they think that greed is bad, and if they press that button they are saying that they are greedy ... so not knowing the difference will always press need. But now you've learnt the difference just move on, learn from it, and keep an eye out for others who may also misunderstand the 'rules'. First off, be sure you know which items are YOUR class items ... which armour class you can wear and which attribute is your primary stat. Then you can learn which classes 'need' which items, and if you see someone rolling need on something they can't use then ask them nicely if they know the difference between need/greed. i.e. smugglers rolling need on light/heavy armour items, or Jedi Knights rolling need on +willpower items. Everyone is a newb at some point, and it can be hard to put yourself in their position and remember the things you didn't know - and now take for granted as 'obvious'.
  9. Unfortunately, no it isn't possible for you to get them all. You have to return to the event site day after day, with each day unlocking a new quest which awards another piece of the gear. So to get gloves, boots, legs, helmet, chest and belt you'd need to do the event for a minimum of 6 days. I only discovered this (and the post giving an end date to the event) with only 4 days left of the event, so I too have an incomplete set.
  10. Read the very first post in this thread /facepalm FWIW - I too would like the event extended. Purely selfish reasons, obviously, because I too haven't been able to play every day and have now realised that the orange armour quests can only be completed on consecutive days (and not all on the same day as I thought they might). Which means I can get the leg piece before the end of the event, but that's it. Sure would be nice to have the helm and chest piece. Oh and yeah, +1 to whoever pointed out that having this single post in the general discussion forum is not a good way to advertise the event was ending. I would at least expect something on the launcher, or a higher-level blog post about the event, rather than just a single post in a forum I tend to stay away from.
  11. Why don't you quest on your current class planet? That will have more quests, enemies that grant more XP, and of course will progress your class quest ... all things that will give you more XP than grinding the Rakghoul dailies and PvP. And I guess it was moved to New Player Help because it is the kind of question asked by new players Q: "How to I level quickly?" A: "Do class quests and all planet quests"
  12. As you say, it is IMHO, but I disagree. A character creating armour can not deal with providing armour for all of your companions who will be wearing light/medium/heavy armour, droid parts, and also require a variety of stats. Armourtech can deal with one kind of armour, and synthweaving the other, so that's two characters needed already. You then have to keep those two characters crafting skill up to date to be able to produce armour that is of the required level and better than the quest rewards. By far easiest way of keeping orange gear up to date is: - Quest on a planet, choosing commendations when offered as a reward - When you leave the planet visit the commendation vendor on fleet - Buy appropriate mods for you and your companions - Go to next planet - Rinse and repeat
  13. There is no way to hide/remove your guild tag - in the same way it is not possible to hide your name. The post earlier that talked about preferences>nameplate simply affects your personal display on the game, not what everyone else sees.
  14. CS might be able to help you, although if you look in the CS forum you'll see there are posts related to the problem of abandoning quests and them being lost forever (and CS won't help reinstate it). Official advice is to reset, not abandon, quests you still want to play. Good luck.
  15. Good, glad you got it sorted. Now you know the difference between abilities and weapons. Abilities are the way that you use weapons, so there isn't just a single 'fire blaster' button - there are many.
  16. Creating a new character won't help if you repeat the actions you took before. A quick summary of what you've done, and what you are doing. Please read it: - You probably 'fire blaster' by right clicking on an enemy, am I right? - Right-clicking doesn't actually fire the blaster, it in fact activates the ability in quickslot 1 - By default the ability in quickslot 1 will be your 'free' ability, one that doesn't generate heat (Rapid Shot) - Nearly all your other abilities will generate heat and so aren't 'free' and won't be able to be used if your heat is too high - You have moved things around on your quickslots, so you don't have Rapid Shot ability in slot 1 To fix this: - Open up your abilities panel (P) - Find Rapid Shot and drag it into slot 1 You can now 'fire your blaster' by right clicking an enemy Further advice would be: - learn to use your abilities without right-clicking (by pressing number keys, for example) - learn how your abilities work
  17. That big 'community' button up there ^ has options underneath it, one of them is 'forum subscriptions' ... which is what you're looking for.
  18. They're not better suited for either - or rather they're suitable for everyone - otherwise why would you play the other? Just choose whatever you want to play and enjoy yourself. Remember you have a companion who will help, either my tanking, being a damager dealer or a healer (comes late for some classes and early for others) so just do what you want. Not sure why you added to this thread though, your question has nothing to do with the original! Just create a thread with a decent subject line if you have other (unrelated) questions.
  19. He said he used a game time card, which means there are slightly different qualifying conditions. You don't need to have run down your 'free' 30 days if you used a game time card before the cut-off date.
  20. Under the large 'community' button there is now a 'forum subscriptions' link, meaning you don't need to go into your account settings anymore. Well done BW. Now you just need to improve the difference between highlighted and normal, as seen on the page markers (where it can be very hard to tell which page you're on as the highlight isn't that different from normal) and a number of other places Yeah I know, people are never satisfied.
  21. Under 'My SWTOR' you can access your forum subscriptions (which is by default the list of threads you posted on). It isn't just a one-click access anymore, unfortunately.
  22. I'll give this a +1 for annoyance. It was very convenient before to get to the threads I was interested in, now it isn't.
  23. Yep - pretty quick and simple really, it just sounds more complicated than it is. Similarly when offered a choice of companion quest rewards I'll dismiss/summon companions as appropriate so I can use the tool-tip compare and see who would benefit the most. Easier than maintaining a spreadsheet of who is wearing what ...
  24. As someone else said, if you mix in some regular flashpoints, space combat and PvP then you will find you can skip quests (or even whole planets) and leave them for a later alt to play through. I didn't purposefully get over-levelled, but with my first char I arrived on Alderaan for my class quest right on the upper limit of the planet so decided to just do the class quest and skip the rest. My next alt then choose to skip most of my home planet knowing I'd have a full planets worth of quests on Alderaan. So mix in some other sources of XP and you should find (like 90% of people*) that if you were to try and do everything on one character you'll be over-levelled ... so might as well skip stuff and save it for an alt to discover. *For some reason the other 10% still swear blind it is possible to be under-levelled even if they complete every quest. YMMV
  25. Only worthless because you have no idea what they are for either I'd guess ... see what person below you wrote ... Which is by far the easiest way to use them. Quest on a planet -> build up commendations -> leave planet -> go to that planet's commendation vendor on fleet and upgrade as many orange gear mods as possible > go to next planet and repeat Simples.
