  1. I'm probably only a couple hours at most during each play session. Consequently, I have one character who is currently level 41. Still having fun
  2. I'm a Guardian tank spec. I don't think the AI is programmed to just attack who you do. A lot of times, I'll use Kira (our second companion and the main DPS at that stage) and she tends to pick her own targets and try to take them down. In fact, if I want her to focus fire with me on a target, I have to tell her to, otherwise she feels like she needs to get more kills than me and goes to town This is actually helpful during boss fights because when you've got a boss with two trash MOBs next to him, I can concentrate on the boss and she will take out the two other MOBs by herself without being told to (usually... sometimes I have to point her to the first one but she will then go to the next one herself). Not terribly helpful, I know, but I do think it illustrates the point that companions don't always just attack who you are attacking. Yeah, all the companions are too stupid to use elevators. I've had that same exact scenario where I get off the elevator and rush into a group expecting back up and then... nothing because Kira is still staring at the top of the elevator in horror
  3. I guess I'm the minority, but I really enjoyed STO. I played it from launch, took a break for a little while (during the year long content drought, basically) and came back for F2P. SWTOR is similar to STO in the fact that they both seem geared toward casual gamers like myself. That said, there is one thing I wish/hope TOR will take from STO... Add weekly series. The weekly series in STO are amazingly fun and having a new episode per week is a lot of fun to play. I don't particularly like how LONG it takes them to get a new series going (that year long drought was absolutely ridiculous) but the series themselves are a blast. It's a better alternative to end game for someone like me rather than the typical raid style that WoW uses (and even STO has those with their STFs).
  4. This. I've had times where I've Force Leaped to a seemingly random MOB only to notice that I was accidentally targeting him and not who I meant to. And yes, the targeting system in this game needs work.
  5. I'm really enjoying TOR and I haven't even played 1 second of WoW, but I do agree with your points for the most part. The one thing I disagree with are the loading screens. It doesn't bother me because you don't really have to zone in that much. I'd prefer to get rid of the space station stops but those don't require a loading screen, just a quick zone in (which IS different). That said, YES to the music. Hoth has that AWESOME piano track that plays for FAR too short. Alderaan has a really nice musical theme but unfortunately you don't hear enough of it. Please add more music!!
  6. Slightly off topic (slightly ) I (almost) ran out of credits this weekend. I hit 40 and went to train up new skills. I'm used to just training everything because even though skills get more expensive, I've got credits flowing out of you know where Anyway, one of the new skills was the speeder level 2 cert and I bought it without thinking. Well, that took my credits down quite a bit. After that, I thought, "Well, I have the cert now... might as well buy a shiny new speeder." New speeder bought and I'm down to 8500. So then I hit the fleet and - perhaps foolishly - I thought "I'll just check the Market and see if I can find those black [orange] robes for my Jedi I've been wanting." Low and behold, there they were for 8300. So now I'm sitting there on the fleet down to 200 credits Haven't been so low since level 1. Of course, that was enough to get to my next planet and after less than an hour I was back up to 30,000 but still... that was kind of funny TL;DR: It's possible to run out of credits but it's also insanely easy to build back up
  7. While I don't disagree with the OP at all, I do also agree with the above. A little imagination can go a long way in solving this issue
  8. I'm 99% sure that the option to see if a dialog option is going to be Light or Dark is on by default. However, you have to HOVER over the option to see the icon (by default). I assume the OP was not using the mouse to select dialogs? There is an option to turn that off or to make the alignment always show in the options menu.
  9. Bacta hasn't been invented/discovered yet. Kolto is what they used in KOTOR 1 and 2 so it makes sense to have it in this game for continuity's sake. Kolto is basically the predecessor to bacta.
  10. Had this happen once to me and it was right strafe. As I recall (I could be wrong) I accidentally hit the windows key or something which caused the game to essentially alt-tab out. I fixed it by hitting all the movement keys at once.
  11. I can definitely feel the OPs pain about having a rough PUG but there are a few things I have a problem with here: First, not everyone needs to be a min/maxer and most heroics don't require an overly skilled group to finish. Hell, I've finished a 4+ Heroic with a Sentinel player who had no idea what they were doing and was probably 11 years old at most, a Smuggler who had one minor healing ability and didn't know how to use it, myself (Guardian tank), and my companion. It was hard, but we did it. Second, the OP's direct quote (which they actually posted) did sound rude. Once I grouped with someone to do a heroic who insisted on getting their speeder out between every pull. Of course, this mostly just led to them pulling aggro on huge groups of mobs that the team wasn't ready to deal with. Rather than kick him or yell at him, I said "Hey, can you please not get on your speeder in this area? Thank you :)" That seemed to work ok. Off topic Pro-tip: Don't ride speeders in heavily infested heroic areas, please
  12. I felt like a tank around 17 - 20ish. I agree though... Kira is melee DPS and being that I'm specced tank (level 39), she probably does about the same damage as I do if not a bit more. She does not have the same survivability as I do though, that's for sure. That said, she can chew through trash mobs by herself pretty quickly
  13. What about my a Jedi? Those glowing sticks are more training sabers than vibroblades. There are some rather wicked looking vibroblades out there (I've gotten a few on Balmorra) that probably better match what you are expecting.
  14. I have to agree with this. I know that I'm probably one of the older players on here (*sigh*) but I'm not THAT old and to my eye, I haven't noticed a huge change in textures between game mode and dialog mode. Not saying there isn't one, just that I don't really notice it. It makes the whole "OMG why don't I have high res textures nao!!!!111eleventyone" talk seem quite silly to me. Again, not saying that the texture problem doesn't exist, just that I don't really "get it" I guess.
  15. If you want to continue a story, you eventually have to make these sorts of canonical decisions. You couldn't really continue the Revan story (at least not very well) while saying "Reven went to planet X. It decided that the Sith wanted..." It? Really? The same thing is going to happen with TOR as well. Some time in the future, the Jedi Knight will have a canonical sex and alignment. So will the Bounty Hunter, the Sith Warrior, etc.
  16. It's insanely easy to sneak past all the champions and elites in the area to get to the apprentice. The apprentice herself is also insanely easy, despite being a Champion. She has a ton of HP but does almost no DPS. Doc was easily able to keep up on the heals while I chipped away at her health. I soloed her on the first try, no problem. The Sith Lord though... he was a different story. I ended up just not finishing the quest up because I didn't feel like trying to get a group together to kill him. He pretty much demolished me as soon as the battle started.
  17. Level 38 Guardian, I have about 250,000 or so. If I could find some nice, black, moddable [orange] Jedi robes, I'd spend all 250,000 on them (ok, well maybe just 200,000 )
  18. What level are you and what part of the story are you? Kira conversations unlock with affection AND hitting certain parts of the main class quest line. After I hit a certain part of my story, I got like 5 conversations with her in a row that had been back logged.
  19. I've seen this before, but I've always just chalked it up to lag. The client probably thinks that the proc is up but the server doesn't or something like that. It doesn't affect me too much so... *shrug*
  20. Damage isn't delayed, that's the thing. Just the animation is (for instant cast abilities). The reason you can get killed mid-air is probably because of animation/state priority. Being dead has highest priority I would guess. This is all speculation, of course, since I don't know the code but that's what is happened, I'd guess.
  21. So a few notes here: First, I thought Balmorra was kind of a slog to get through, so the bonus series just sort of added on top of that. I did complete it though. Second, as you say, yes, this is a "staged bonus" mission to go along with your regular mission. Third, I soloed the apprentice without breaking a sweat. The apprentice has a TON of HP but does almost zero DPS so Doc was able to keep up the heals no problem. That said, I don't think it's a bug but it could be made more clear. I too, was surprised that my objective was in a heroic area but it's INSANELY easy to sneak past all the elite and champion mobs in that area even if you aren't a stealth class.
  22. This is "working as designed"... sort of. Basically what is happening is that the target hit an instant cast ability right before you hit stasis. This means that - according to the server - the damage from their ability should be factored in before your stasis hit (which makes sense). However, their "instant cast" might have an animation associated with it so while you take the damage immediately, they still have to animate. Because the effect hit you, the animation needs to play, which causes the stasis animation to look glitchy. At least this is how I understand it. I'm not sure there is much they can do to fix this. You wouldn't want people to hit stasis and then "mysteriously" take damage and you wouldn't want to cancel an instant cast just because someone hit stasis a split second later. The forums would engulf in flames even more than they already are What I would like them to fix is Stasis Mastery. Supposedly, once you have it, you no longer have to channel stasis but you animate like you do anyway. So if I freeze you and then slash you, the animation for the slash won't play but you'll still take the damage. This annoys me more than the other stasis problem
  23. This. A billion times this. I would add that the OP also has intimate knowledge of the Mass Effect engine and knows it could just be easily modified for use in an MMO.
  24. I don't think you'll be getting the different saber options any time soon since that is really what differentiates the various classes. That said, I'm a Guardian and I use a green saber all the time. Green crystals aren't hard to get and I even got one as a quest reward once. Yeah, the game really tries to make you use blue but it's not terribly hard to find green yourself.
  25. I haven't read through all 22 pages of this thread but I think this quote is really end of thread. Sandbox is very niche and isn't ever going to be mainstream because it requires a certain mindset (much like the RPer mindset). I tend to be a casual RPer but even I didn't like SWG. I didn't like being an average smuck in the Star Wars galaxy. I want to be heroic. That's why I like TOR more. *shrug*
