  1. I have to agree, for me SWG was the best mmo, and I really have played every p2p mmo ever released in the west. The genre needs more sandbox games like early SWG, getting really tired of theme parks where all you do is repeat the same handful of events every time you log in at "end game" just to grind for the latest gear the devs have thrown in to keep you subbing.
  2. As Jedi used force abilities they generated visibility, once they had accrued enough they would be placed on the bounty hunter terminals. On checking the terminal and accepting a contract, the Bounty hunter would track the Jedi's location using probes. The first probe type would give the name of a planet, and once on that planet a second probe type would generate a wp on the map, and would continue to follow the Jedi for a limited time, the BH would then start to play catch up. If the BH was smart they could interpret the movement of the wp's, to figure what the jedi was doing in the area, and where they were likely to be, mission terminals, player cities, poi, whatever. Should the BH successfully locate and kill the jedi before they got into a secure building or logged off, they would automatically receive a bounty payment. Should the BH be killed, the bounty would end and the mission failed; also the Jedi's exposure on the terminals was reset as soon as one BH accepted the bounty, to avoid griefing by multiple BH. Probably a few bits I left out, it's been a while since I was a BH, but that's the gist of it, and yes it was a lot of fun, and tense too; I have some great memories chasing jedi players all over the galactic map trying to track them down. They had planned to allow other player names to become bounties in one fashion or another but that never made it into the game. ***EDIT*** Forgot the bit about pvp kills as that was added much later, after I changed profession but has already been mentioned. Should also mention, unbeknown to my Guild at the time, I was one of the first on my server to unlock. Having chosen to create a new Jedi char instead of using my existing main, and playing a rebel, I used both chars to give Empire players as hard a time as I was able and remain hidden from the rest of my guild some of who were BH, and not so choosy about who they tracked with jedi (early on) in short supply. Good times.
  3. Not the first 100 either that was two days ago, but nm.
  4. They are simply doing what people happy with the game are doing, EXPRESSING themselves; why do you assert only those completely happy have a right to post. When people take the time to create "I quit" threads, it is because they are passionate about the game, they wanted it to work for them, wanted it to be better, and chose to voice their frustration in the hopes a dev will see it. Calling people names like "hater" or "troll" simply because they have an opposing view is childish, narrow minded, and ignorant. All customers of this game have the right to express their views, provided they do so in line with the TOS, who the hell are you or anyone else, to denigrate, or demean with childish muck throwing because they do not share "your" view of the game. If you cannot take negative opinions about your beloved title, you may want to carefully re examine how you feel about the game. Sounds to me, like one or two of you do not like posts hitting raw nerves and those negative posts are closer to the truth than you care to admit.
  5. It's part of the game, and no more an exploit than jugg, mara/guardian, sent using force leap to advance with the ball, and sage/sorc pulling allies towards them across the line so they cannot be intercepted. Calling harpoon/ grapple an exploit is just plain silly; I can only assume you have only played a couple of pvp matches not to have noticed class mechanics being used this way in huttball.
  6. This has nothing to do with it, have no idea what hole you pulled that out of, but ability delay has been acknowledged by the devs and they are working on it. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=141027
  7. You might want to try playing a tank before whining; you can only guard one target at a time provided you are in the correct stance, and you must remain within 15m's of them at all times. You also get a taunt which can be cleansed, which will debuff damage done by the taunted target by 30% against any targets other than the tank. Further, any damage prevented by guard is done to the tank instead, the damage doesn’t disappear into the ether; so not only are you taking damage from the enemy but you also take 50% of the damage directed at your guard target, yet our health is not noticeably different from other classes. Add to that, the fact that shields do not stop weapon damage in pvp, making ALL the points in the tanks defence stat useless. Healers do not have to sacrifice health and their own lives in order to get healing medals, yet that is exactly what tanks are doing to get theirs, and you have the gall to cry about it. Medals and their requirements are balanced by the potential each class has to achieve particular goals within a round, as it is harder to achieve the same amount of protection points as a healer may healing, or a dps doing damage, the medals are scaled accordingly. If there is a problem with medals for healing, that’s a healer problem, it has bugger all to do with tanking medals and how they are awarded.
  8. Oh yeah, level to 50, ignore the majority of the content available in a theme park mmo just to pvp. Don't be so bloody asinine, that argument is as stupid now as it's always been, there are 50 levels not just one, and the bulk of the games content is presented during the first 49. The lack of brackets and the broken boosting were a terrible idea that clearly do not work, and are the real culprits behind the ops rage. The introduction of a level 50 bracket should alleviate part of the problem, but the game needs braking down into further brackets, and premade's should only face off against premade's as was supposed to be the case. However, op, you cannot ban anyone for making use of legitimate gameplay, level 50 players have as much right to enjoy their game as do lower levels, it's just unfortunate that Bioware made some of the choices they did with regards to how instanced pvp is organised.
  9. AS for the mobs here, I can't say I had any problems cleared first time through with my Vanguard at level 24, however, I do have biochem so make my own buffs and meds so that certainly didn't hurt. As for the "stay frosty" bonus, after disabling all the field generators, there is an additional step required to update the log and clear the entry that is not shown as part of the quest, IIRC it was activating a console in the same room.
  10. Then you sir are a large part of the problem and only making things worse; as for bailing because things got a little tough, yeah ok, we have a name for that where I come from. The problem as already pointed out, is due to a population imbalance, and is one that is repeated in every game where imbalance exists. An increase in numbers means everything is far more readily available, from high end gear, consumables, premade's, to level 50's to face roll lower levels. Boosting does not work, it never has, and never will; separating 50's into their own bracket will alleviate part of the problem for lower level players. However, I hope you folks enjoy huttball, as that is the only wz were players from different factions play on the same side, or players from the same faction face off against one another to keep teams even. Preventing premade's from facing off against pugs is also sorely needed, and was supposed to be present at launch. As for world pvp that will die a sudden and dramatic death on any server where there is a population imbalance, meaning pretty much all of them, on some, pvp guild's will re roll to the lower pop looking for the challenge of facing off against tougher odds. Generally, however, Bioware will spend the rest of this games lifetime constantly chopping and changing things in an effort to breathe life into it.
  11. The tt-15a is the level 40 pvp assault helm, found on the pvp vendor; it has been renamed but keeps the appearance and designation, also those stats on torhead are wrong, it is showing an early beta version with glance stats, and level 38 mods instead of the 40's it is equipped with.
  12. Now try assault specced commando, it is their shared tree after all, and grants the same dots, with a higher base damage from their canon.
  13. Not that it affects anyone other than myself, but I cancelled and submitted a report using the bug system as well as the reasons option you get when cancelling. Its buggy, it is unbalanced even across AC's of the same class, and there is far too much CC from some classes(my biggest gripe), more often than not by the time your immunity kicks in you are already dead, it should be a single CC leading to at least 30 seconds of immunity thereafter. No one likes being stunned and dying without the ability to fight back, you use your single CC breaker and its straight back in, it is a farce right now. I also dislike that too many classes mix ranges instead of focusing in a particular area, but that extends to the game as a whole, those classes just do not feel distinct enough. I also personally feel their claims that pvper's are working on the pvp side is a blatant lie, there are far too many problems that a pvper would know right away would casue issues.
  14. We did on my server all the time, all you needed do was use republic chat and every guild on the server came running to your defence. We also regularly attacked one another's cities, not a single guild, but damn near every guild, even those with only two or three members would get in on the action, we had amazing running battles. Ultimately, each side organised its own war committee comprised of members from every major guild or player city on the server to coordinate our efforts. We would regularly coordinate strikes, attacking several player cities and major star ports at once in attempts to close off entire planets. Where the server started lagging we would break up into smaller groups the server could handle, and spread our assaults out. I have seen similar behaviour in other sandbox mmos too, but it's not uncommon in that environment, as players are responsible for a large part of their own entertainment as opposed to being spoon fed content in a theme park.
  15. All you can do is bug it as I have done since beta, and hope they get their finger out. They have replied and are aware of the situation, but unless folks complain it will continue to slip down the things to fix until it disappears out of sight..
  16. The high res textures are not missing, they have always been present, there is a bug that prevented them being displayed in all circumstances, they acknowledged the bug was present, and said they are working on it, what more do you people expect.
  17. I am perfectly aware they are working on the problem, and they have been since they addressed the question in beta. However, that does not change the fact there will not be a sudden dramatic improvement in the look of the game, the textures are already there and always have been, they are simply not being displayed correctly. They were not intentionally switched off, removed from the download due to size restrictions, nor hidden for some other obscure tinfoil hat theory, it was a bug. If you actually pay attention in game, once in a while you can see the textures in all their glory, but what they offer, is not all that far removed from what is available now, all you will notice once fixed is a little more detail and bump mapping.
  18. Frankly, I cannot see why this thread was created, during beta and directly afterward they acknowledged that high res textures were not being displayed in some circumstances, and it was being worked on, no mystery no drama, and certainly no need for "clarification", nor any need to repeat what has already been said. Those who have the inclination can go scroll through all Stephen Reid's tweets, several of the earlier ones address the question of high res textures not being displayed. However, anyone who is expecting a dramatic change in visuals will be sorely disappointed, aside from a little more bump mapping and texture detail in some cut scenes, char wardrobe display and close ups there is not that much difference. It will most certainly not alter the art style, or offer up a dramatic difference over that which is currently available.
  19. Idiots, the guy was taking the piss, and you all still jump in, in defence of X class, or to bash him for raging. Dear god, wow was the worst thing to happen to the mmo community, we were far better off as a niche market, at least then the average IQ exceeded double figures.
  20. Vanguard is fine, it will not output massive dps, so you can ignore those that claim otherwise, as they clearly A) don't play the class, B) are still relatively low level, or C) have only played vanguard and have nothing to compare it with. However, you are not going to tank as well as you can unless you spec into shield specialist AND only use ion cell. With those two and Dorne healing you, you can solo champions or two elites and will walk away with little to no damage at the end, that is until you hit late 30's 40 onwards. From there on you will take more damage from elites etc, but should still have no problems staying up. For those claiming vanguard does massive dps may I suggest you play until at least 40, by which time dmg scaling has tailed off, then go and play commando, sentinel or either smuggler tree to a similar level and come back and tell us how much damage vanguard specced for dps does by comparison. I do not claim the class is gimped, quite the opposite, but regardless, dps will not compare with classes that cannot equip a shield in their off hand, their damage output is significantly higher, and quite rightly, as things would become unbalanced if you could do both. My vanguard is now level 42, and by 23-24 my commando could hit harder with many of its abilities, it's now level 39 and hits like a damn truck. The same is true of my 38 sentinel, it will burn through the same mobs solo at about 3 times the speed of the vanguard, frankly it has to it has nowhere near the survivability.
  21. There is a huge difference between commando and vanguard when both are specced for dps. My vanguard is now level 41, and my commando only 27 and the commando already does more damage, and has a fraction of the talents it will have by endgame. The mobility of vanguard is moot, once in melee range heavy armour without a shield or talents for tanking offers little extra protection, and you are going to eat canvas just as quickly as a med armour class, when you are cc'd and raging. The extra range afforded by commando abilities gives you a buffer to kite or get your *** out of dodge when targeted. The fact is, any class that can carry a shield does less damage than the ac that doesn't, anyone who tries will notice the difference between ac's fairly quickly, before anyone pipes up I also have a 39 Sent and 36 guard to compare with. Of course, other differences compensate, but in an outright dps battle, the ac without the shield will always top, regardless of devs claims to the contrary. Five percent difference may have been their original goal, but it seems that was lost quite some time ago amongst class changes and all the intervening patches during beta. Yes, people will argue it's subjective without a dps meter, but I belong to the old guard from the days of UO and EQ when we didn’t need parses, you still don't; if you really must have proof, a stopwatch and a convenient mob and a reasonable sample size is all that is needed to compare dps between specs.
  22. Aren't you going to be disappointed when IA/smuggler are nerfed, because it will happen; their dps is out of proportion to other classes, of course you don't want to see it change, but it will. There are already far too many posts complaining or bragging about the single target dps in pvp. When a squishy class can take out a tank on a single stun, two at most, of course it's going to be changed.
  23. Nonsense, as long as those relics are bound to hotbar buttons anyone with a half decent gaming keyboard or mouse can one button macro the abilities anyway, and you can guarantee any number of folks are already doing this. How are you or anyone else going to know if they use a single button on their hardware to fire off a sequence of key presses, the answer is you will not. Further, it's incredibly hard, if not damn near impossible to prevent this in software, not having a macro function actually gimps those who cannot afford better hardware. I am not advocating the use of hardware or macro's I hate the damn things and never use them, but they are a reality, and in daily use. Any number of folks use a naga now, heck the official hardware for the game are a naga and a keyboard by razer with programmable macro buttons
  24. You are missing the point, they had healing, and you * focused on the class with heavy armour, instead of taking out the sent and gunslinger that are much easier to burst down, and you would have taken out 50%- 75% of thier available dps.
  25. Vanguard is no better specced for dps, and it gets less CC than jugg, commando abilities are 200%-300% harder hitting when both spec for dps, although Vanguard gets better mobility. As for the op, your problem was not commando, it was a lack of teamwork, and the better coordinated team with healing beat you. As for the nub on the first page crying trooper is better than BH; Lmfao, try playing one first, and see what a difference the animations make to mobility, death from above fires instantly, mortar its "mirror" has to be channelled for a full second before damage starts. DFB gets dmg_tick_dmg_tick_dmg, mortar is the opposite, tick_dmg_tick_dmg_tick_dmg, commando cannot get a single round off from their best hitting aoe then move, unlike BH, they have to stand at leasst a second or waste a gcd, and it's not the only such disparity. Frankly, as far as I am concerned Bioware's claims they have pvp'rs working on pvp balance is a blatant lie, there are far too many silly mistakes, like some classes excessive CC, the problems caused by animations, the lack of brackets, and classes with tank trees doing lacklustre dps, when specced for dps.
