  1. Of course it is. How long did you play those multiplayer games for? Do they even still have servers up? I don't want to discredit any game you've played, or anything like that, but in the gaming world, 7 years is a long time.
  2. To be fair, WoW had pvp gear progression as far back as 2005. Thats 7 years, which is a pretty long time in the gaming industry.
  3. Korea is already ahead of the game. Players raking in 300k a year from tournament winnings alone don't need pensions or care packages.
  4. Why do you need advantages beyond skill in competitive PvP?
  5. Persistent until the next tier comes out, in which case all your "hard" work from the months before just became nullified because now you need the new tier again. Fact of the matter is, Valor is a time based achievement, and as such doesn't actually mean anything in the scope of things. It never has. Just like being 50 doesn't really mean anything. If you play enough, you will get there eventually.
  6. Nor do I, just pointing out that they said those and a season based system are coming to ranked PvP.
  7. Actually, Gabe specifically said this is pre-season ranked, and Season will include incentives for higher ranks, including titles and mounts, and vanity gear.
  8. Honestly, I think you're thinking too complex. duncan explained what I tried to convey in less words.
  9. You're right. Hand eye coordination isn't a skill. Critical thinking isn't a skill. Situational awareness isn't a skill. Nobody is trying to claim that zerging takes skill, or that people leaving your warzone doesn't suck. I'm just trying to figure out how you want to relate that to skill.
  10. What? We're not talking about low level PvP. We're talking about PvP at 50, in a competitive environment. It doesn't get progressively harder. There's no enrage timers to meet so the opponent doesn't one shot you. You don't need to worry about not standing some place, or having to stand in a specific area. You worry about your skill, and the skill of your opponent. When gear comes into play, it's a crutch, and is not competitive.
  11. What does population balance have to do with skill?
  12. No, you're not. PvP doesn't get progressively harder as time goes on. PvE does.
  13. But the point of PvE is for DPS races. It's gated by gear so that you can't beat NM on day one. In 1.2 NM gear will be the highest tier gear, but you don't need the gear to beat the fights. It makes them easier, so you can be ready for the next tier. You want the same thing in PvP. You want gear to make it easier for you. In PvP, we call that a crutch.
  14. Not really. But say you are buying an item that costs 67 comms, and you have 66. Are you going to spend time getting 800 comms, or 120?
  15. Short answer is because his skill can not carry him like gear can.
  16. Read the very last line. Ranked and rated are synonymous in this discussion.
  17. There is gear progression. And the OP wants that progression from Rateds, not just from Normals. Maybe you should go back re-read what the OP meant in his post.
  18. I have all the time in the world. I'm a War Hero, I've had full BM for weeks now. I'm getting my alt to BM now. I just don't need a crutch to separate myself in competitive PvP.
  19. You want the progression from rateds, when the progression already exists in the normals. Rateds are meant to be competitive PvP.
  20. Oh so you do understand the design philosophy of a RPS based class system.
  21. I PvP to fight against a challenging dynamic player, not static AI. But, I can't reliably beat the challenging dynamic player, so I need a crutch to assist me. That's all I keep seeing from people that "need" gear progression from rateds.
  22. Of course it's the same thing. Rated PvP in WoW, on the servers, was casual. And will stay casual. It was a glorified practice "realm" for tournament play. Tournament play took place with 0 gear disparity because it was supposed to be competitive. That is the approach Bioware wants to take. You just want the e-peen, without ever having to actually go up against people that will wipe the floor with you.
  23. There is gear progression from PvPing. Just not from rateds, which are meant to be pure competitive PvP.
