Why are people still mad about no new raids?
DalekTheCat replied to Killance's topic in General Discussion
You get more "choices that matter", character development, and story in a single Fallout quest than you do in KotFE. It utterly fails as story content and I can't fathom how self-described "story players" could be satisfied with this. -
Welcome to KotFE and Ch 12 - the new *refocused* SWTOR

You're right. I could never have come up with a quest better than "Go to the cantina, then come back". That was absolutely brilliant writing and game design and the critics here should shut up and stop giving Bioware so much grief. -

Oftentimes, yes, the writing is bad. The plot is absurd to the point where I don't know why the Player Character is motivated to go along with it, and the dialogue oftentimes is uninspired or cringeworthy. It is also apparent that the writing is getting shoehorned into this very narrow gameplay model which caters to the lowest common denominator in terms of skill and intelligence, so any kind of plot or character development which a writer wants to explore gets squanched because PC needs to Go a certain way down a certain corridor with a predetermined companion Fight a certain number of Skytroopers per minute Click on a certain number of blue objects in order to trigger the next passive cutscene. Compared to something like a Fallout game, where quests can be completed a number of ways with varying outcomes and consequences, KotFE plays like a rough draft. No matter how good the writers may be, their work is not going to be able to shine in this sort of presentation. -

This is what gets me. (I mean, besides every other ridiculous and ill-advised move they've made since Revan.) I enjoy pvp and progression raiding, but I'm also a fan of story and character development. If KotFE really had been "a return to Bioware storytelling" like they promised, I would have been pleased to enjoy the story while waiting for new ops and so on. But it wasn't. It was one, extremely linear story with no replay value and no "choices that matter". No side-quests, no chance for exploration (FFS after Lana thaws you out, if you start to head down the wrong corridor they close the blast doors on you. BAD RAT. LEARN THE MAZE), no wandering about and discovering the story for yourself. I'm trying to take a second character through the story now to see how it is for Force-users, and it's painful. Oh god, the Skytrooper spam. One quest objective was literally, "stay in this locked room and one-shot Skytroopers until they stop spawning". How could anyone who enjoys story be satisfied with this drivel? I've replayed the original class stories many times, but I'm struggling to give enough of a hoot to plow through KotFE a second time. I'm done. They're failing as an MMO, and they're failing as a single-player story-driven game. -
People have repeatedly stated in this thread the varied reasons they play and sub. For myself, I was unsubbed for a few months but came back to raid with a group of friends. Is that okay with you? Please approve of me. What's any of that got to do with the quality of the new content, O Wise Undergraduate Literature Major?

1. House entrances glow blue and can be seen from some distance away. 2. Panels have colored lines leading directly to them. Like, they are literally pointing you to the panels. Which, btw, are huge and glowing. 3. No spacebarring. 4. No stealth. The only reason I got more than 30 minutes out of it was because I was playing in heal spec and was so bored I let Aric pew-pew the mobs down. Anyway, waves of Yet MOAR Skytroopers don't qualify as Actual Content.

Hello. I am in search of a raid team. I will be succinct: I am looking for a team for my operative healer. 7/10 Rav/ToS HM pre-4.0 when my team disbanded. Parses available upon request. I have been taking a hiatus since to raise a puppy, who is now housebroken, thank the gods. Group should be competent and populated with non-sociopaths. I am available at night, Pacific time. Ideally after 8 or 9PM, to ensure the minimum of puppy-related interruptions. My puppy is really freakin cute. Thank you for your consideration, and have a superb day.

George Smith - Raid Designer Leaves SWTOR

Please tell me that's /s, I've lost the ability to tell the difference. -
Why even have gear if you can do bolstered groupfinder naked? So much of the game has been rendered pointless, and it's depressing.

Squelching has got to go.... 2nd time since KoTFE launch
DalekTheCat replied to Eidorf's topic in General Discussion
I've seen it happen: a friend of mine whispered me several times very quickly about something he was excited about, and automatically got squelched for a weekend. We supposed Bioware had some kind of aggressive anti-spam detection in place for the increased activity they expected around the launch of the xpac. -
Loyal costumers are a few months ticket at best.

The Buddhist teacher Thich Nhat Hahn said: SWtoR has moved away from being an MMO: in return, I will remember our time together fondly as I move away as well. Bonus koan: What is the sound of the old guard unsubbing? -
Lack of New OPS

I saw a banner ad advertising KotFE in uTorrent. I will let people draw their own conclusions about this marketing strategy. -
Single player game with subscription?
DalekTheCat replied to Przemo_No's topic in General Discussion
Well. We can't play the way we like. Because Bioware no longer appears to support raiders and pvpers. I'm glad they're supporting the particular way YOU like to play, but other people have been left out for a long time. And if you really look at it, the single-player content that's being developed is extremely short and one-dimensional, so those players aren't really being served very well either. -
Need your guy's honest opinion here.....
DalekTheCat replied to rasputein's topic in General Discussion
The game engine simply cannot handle wpvp beyond very small numbers. This isn't something even worth considering when demanding Bioware produce actual content for players. -
I hate that Bioware is making me seriously consider going back to WoW. Yes the graphics are silly and the races are all godawful and I am so OVER the fantasy setting, but there's just so much content I can't help but find it appealing again.
-
No, it's not a charity. Which is precisely why people are upset about the lack of content produced for the game. SWTOR is definitely not a charity, and people don't feel good about throwing money at it and getting so little new content in return.

"Huge Announcement" we got trolled so hard.

Is this more, or less of a troll than when they jerked us around with that Malgus-in-carbonite video? -
Alright. If you find yourself concluding a rant with, "well I guess it was funny after all", you need to stop, reflect, realize it wasn't a big deal, understand that while you cannot control the behavior of others you CAN control your own emotions and reaction to them, and think again about hitting the Post button about something that isn't important. Find your own peace and don't let others disturb it over things that don't even matter.

This clustercuddle of a thread makes me happier than it probably should.

<Reclamation> Is Recruiting only Level 60's
DalekTheCat replied to Ravioxus's topic in Guild Recruitment
What does your current progression look like? What schedule do you run on? How many teams do you plan on fielding in 4.0, and do you have open spots? -
In defence of Cnut, the story was that he was surrounded by brown-nosers and sycophants. Tired of their nonsense, he declared he would command the tides to stop, and not one adviser felt confident enough to say what a bad idea this was. They all proceeded to the shore, Cnut did his thing, the tides ignored him, and Cnut famously "rebuked his couriers". Cnut was not a fool who thought his power was without bounds. Basically, Cnut's couriers are like Bioware's fanboys, except Bioware still hasn't figured out this whole tide thing yet.
