  1. The topic's question is something I have been asking myself a lot lately. About two weeks ago, I expressed the opinion I had about the setting for the planet Taris in the game. Taris is currently undergoing an attempt by the Republic to be cleaned up. From the lore, we know that this attempt fails and that Taris never recovers from the Sith's orbital destruction. I had said that I felt this was wasted effort and while my characters would not have realized that Taris was doomed, I, the player was. Apparently, this was not a popular opinion because a few posters proceeded to cuss me out in their replies. It was not a surprise that the moderators deleted the thread. About three days after that, an article appeared on wow.joystiq.com where the author talked about how many roleplayers did not enjoy roleplaying situations where they knew their character's actions would be wasted effort. I cannot find the article now or I would link to it. But the feedback the author received was mostly positive. The article was an opinion piece. Recent events have made me wonder if having an opinion is even valid any more. Not me specifically, but overall. People believe that opinions are just something everyone has. Without like-minded individuals or the power to back your opinion up (like being in charge, for example,) is your opinion worth anything? If Bioware said that in the next patch, lightsabers would be available in only four colors, red, blue, green, and very rare purple, would anyone like that? And if a great many players expressed their objection and Bioware decided to do this anyway, would it matter in the long run? A lot of gaming companies say that their player's opinions matter. But at the end of the day, those same game companies would release what they wanted to release whether the players objected or not. Over the past seven years of playing MMO's, I am starting to wonder if giving your opinion is even worth the time. Or if the opinion even matters at all. Giving player feedback becomes less and less likely to happen. At least for me. I mean, if telling Bioware my opinion ultimately has no effect, why should I? Do you think your opinion matters?
  2. So far, I do not have any major complaints about the group finder. You choose a role, choose a FP, and queue up. The only complaint I really have about the group finder, and it's a minor one, is that I can choose to accept an FP daily that is still a green in level to my character, but I cannot queue for that specific FP. The level ranges for the quest and the FP do not match. This is easily fixed though.
  3. I'm not interested in player housing for ToR right now. Most of my characters would prefer to live on their ships. I'd be satisfied with just having an animation to the /sleep emote. One that did not end just because you hit the escape key.
  4. Please give the Jedi ability "Strike" and the Sith equivalent a sound effect when the ability hits. When I use this ability to build up Focus, it looks and sounds like all I am doing is waving around my lightsabers. The animation shows the blades swinging back and forth. The sound of the lightsaber's warble as they move plays. But there is no sound that the lightsaber is hitting anything. The only indicator that I am hitting the target is the damage number that floats off the target. The ability feels silly. Am I hitting something? Or am I just waving my lightsabers in the air at nothing? I want to HIT my target and hear the sound of impact on said target. Please.
  5. Ha! That's funny. I'm surprised no one has drawn in a shoe yet floating in space.
  6. I wonder how long and annoying the OP's post would be if he was hacked and all of their character's were stripped and deleted.
  7. Hmmm. While talking about some of the very, very high GTN prices I was seeing on my server, I was told by several people that people towards max level have a lot of credits simply because they do not have anything to spend the credits on. Run a few FPs, WZs, dailies and other quests, sell your trash, and the credits really start to stack up. Makes sense. If you have bought your pets, social items, gear augments, etc, what else are you spending your credits on? My interpretation of the Legacy unlocks is that they are EXTRA. You do NOT have to have them to play the game. When I see people complaining about Legacy costs, two points come to mind. First, yes, they are a little expensive. But since they are not mandatory, I am not that worried about them. Second, people do not want to play the game. "Oh, this is too hard." "I don't want to run dailies to earn money to pay for stuff." So, what? You do not want to play the game? Try this theory on for size: Legacy prices drop significantly. Within a month, you buy all the unlocks, pets, items, etc. that you want. Now, you don't want or need anything. New FPs are not coming out for another few months. You've maxed out commendations and have nothing left to buy by running WZs. You've done it all. What will you do? You might quit and that means Bioware loses revenue until you start paying again (if you do come back.) If enough players do this, the company starts making allowances to entice people back. They go free to play, or other bonuses. Now people complain that the game is too easy, blah, blah, blah. See what I'm saying? Run your dailies, sell the occasional prototype item that drops on the GTN, buy your Legacy items. That's all part of playing the game which is what you are supposed to do.
  8. I saw a developer say in a Q & A say they were going to do a few of the things you just mentioned.
  9. Hmm. I do rather agree with the article's author. Star Wars is missing a lot of the "fluff" that some other MMO's have. There are few chairs you can actually sit on. Computers on the wall are not interactive. A few emotes are weird and have no action associated with them (Try /sleep and you'll remain standing.) A holo chess mini game would rock. I have seen an upcoming features video where the developers showed us an old Super NES SW game being played in TOR. So, it would appear that the developers are aware of the lack of fluff and are going to put some in. A recent Q&A quoted one developer saying they were now going to concentrate on some quality of life issues in the game. I can only hope that some of this fluff is included.
  10. Runnerson. But only one of my characters will use that name. I had no desire to make a "family."
  11. My guess is that the old servers will be shut down and cannibalized for spare parts. Servers are not cheap. Reducing costs would be a great boon.
  12. I did not know that the law in Europe applied to everywhere outside of Europe.
  13. I bought the collector's edition. But I always do that to a game I want to play if it has a collector's edition. Skyrim had one when I decided I wanted to play it. So, I bought the CE. Blizzard games often come with CE's. I buy them. When I get a game, I want it all. CE's often have art or story books, collector items, special in-game items, and other sorts of nick-nacks. "Tommy likey. Tommy want wingie." I did not know about the in-game social items or special CE vendor. I didn't care. Besides, the items for sale there are rather expensive and I am saving my credits to buy Legacy features. Of course, I do want to buy the jukebox that plays Episode IV cantina music. Is that even a CE item? Eh, I don't care. I spent my money as I wanted. I liked the CE and I like the game. For me, that is all that matters. Didn't like what you bought? Well, it was your money you spent, wasn't it? Who twisted your arm to spend it? Uh huh.
  14. Would it be possible to add a feature to schematics that state whether or not you know the schematic already instead of having to try to learn it to find out?
  15. Different game, same DPS crap. I am not surprised. It's kind of like the guy who insulted the entire group as soon as he showed up and then proceeded to do so individually until the group disbanded. Again, not surprised. Humans have few redeeming qualities.
  16. We know that the temple was rebuilt. Episode One confirms this. It is just a matter of when. My guess is that it does not happen until the Empire is defeated and the Rule of One Sith concept goes in to effect which greatly reduces the Sith's number. Having not read the books that state the time line when that rule is enforced, I cannot say when that happened though. *Edit. What Kael said.
  17. Any chance of adding a feature to schematics that state whether or not you know the schematic instead of trying to learn it and finding out that way?
  18. Would it be possible to mark schematics so that they state you already know the schematic without having to try to learn it and find out that way?
  19. Just my opinion here. I do not feel I am entitled to everything in the game. I certainly do feel that I have the right to obtain anything in the game. If I work for it and earn it. All the money I pay goes for access to the server. Beyond that, I doubt I am entitled to any thing in the game. The content is there. I am allowed to play it. That does not mean I can run a twenty player instance all by myself and expect to win.
  20. ...by possums. That's right. Possums! And, no, it's not a hostile takeover. The people are just giving possums control because they're all over the place. It just seems like the right thing to do. And why? Because possums are decent people.
  21. Would it be possible to place a message on a crafting schematic stating whether or not you already know the schematic? Just a flavor question: what binary star system is the Republic Flet located? Unless I'm mistaken, Coruscant does not have two suns.
  22. It depends. First, it depends on if the RP: PVP server I play allows transfers to it or transfers off of it. Second, transfers to where? Transfers off the server will kill the server. It already feels like there are not many people on it. I can be the only person on a planet or the total players on the fleet at any one time is never more then twenty. If people leave, why keep the server? And all of my characters are on this server. Will I be able to move ALL of them? I want to know more before I get excited about transfers. I would have preferred to see some server merges added too. Frankly, a lot of Bioware's talk about transfers and stuff has me frustrated. There's not a lot beyond "We have plans and that's on the table" that keeps me saying "I still do not know what you are doing."
  23. Would you consider making the icon for Smuggler's "Quick Draw" brighter so that it stands out as "active" more on the UI bar?
