  1. No, you're not alone my fellow SWG player. In fact, I lost my patience:
  2. Enough is enough. Instead of giving 5 reasons, I'll take the liberty to post the same message I wrote to Bioware when I decided to cancel my sub. I add a couple of references to other posts and comments. From the first moment, I noticed the game was severely lacking in the aspects that have defined the MMORPG genre in the last 15 years. To put it briefly, those aspects are the ones which provide the player with the notion that he is immersed in a breathing, living world where he can develop a unique career through unique decisions, with proper systems and mechanics that encourage socializing and community making. [i even created a thread months ago, sharing my concerns and asking for suggestions, tried to be constructive, you know: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=289349] I find the game linear, shallow, limited and mind numbing. A pretty carcass with no soul, that it is. I gave you the benefit of the doubt for 6 months, I have been very patient [Check my post history, hehehe]. Now, what I see at this point of the road is that you have no intention of adding some soul to this dead carcass, to put it in a poetic fashion. On the contrary, your "big plans" for the upcoming future is just to add more linear and mind-numbing content (ops, warzones, on trail quests...) into this dead and mind numbing mechanics for the sole sake of the grind. How fun! Like Bretch put it: "try, try again, fail again, fail better" Do you want a suggestion? Study the classics, the games that defined the genre: Neverwinter Nights (the first one), Ultima Online, Everquest, Asheron's Call, Star Wars Galaxies. Kind regards, wish you luck (honestly) I should add that targeting the casual gamers was a terrible, short termish business decision. In my definition, the difference between "casual" and "hardcore" is not based on the time you commit to the game, it's an attitude towards gaming instead. Let me explain: - The casual looks for a time-killer, no brainer game where not too many intellectual efforts and role playing capabilities are asked, nor heavy punishments are inflicted (no big consecuences to the player's actions). Examples of casual oriented games: Diablo, World of Warcraft, Call of Duty. - The hardcore fundamentally looks for a game where he can walk in his character's shoes and see through his eyes. More concentration, consistency and effort is required to play in "hardcore mode". EDIT: Examples of hardcore oriented games: Ultima Online, Star War Galaxies, Battlefield 3 The main point here is the type of player that is going to support a game on the long term are the hardcores because they have the commitment and implication as, after all, their characters are part of their personality . They not only sustain the game, they are the ones who create guilds, forums, blogs, etc... But, of course, you need to have a game with sufficient depth to appeal the hardcores. Definitely, not the case with SWTOR
  3. 1- The OP is a AAA Troll who's been undermining the game since minute 1. Check his history. 2- F2P (buy to play would be more precise though) usually are not 100% free to play as they include microtransactions to pull money form the consumers. Also, there is another danger that promised B2P model become Pay to Win model as that "soon to be released" F2P game will do. 3- B2P games lack any sense of evolution or prospects of new content, excluding future expansions (mandatory buy to play). They basically provide an arena with scripted events that is not going to change until the next expansion. In the subscription model, evolution and new content on a regular basis is guaranteed. Also, the playerbase has more power of negotiation, so to call it, with the developers to transform and adapt the game to their demands (providing the communication channels work in a mature, serious and constructive way, which is not the case in the present forums). 4- The subscription model guarantees in certain way that less children, iliterate lowlifes and brats are going to be playing. In spite of this, some of them still get to play (momma, welfare checks and that kind of stuff). Imagine how the forums and the ingame community would be in a free to play model. The horror, the horror...
  4. This is not really true. You make the game linear as much as you want to. For instance, you can do the bonus quests in one particular planet and skip the planet story quests on the next, you can do random quests in different planets, you can go through a few planet quests at the beginning and then come back for the advanced quests (i.e. balmorra's bugs area), do some flashpoints and pvp every now and then, role play quests with your guildies, etc... Regarding end-game daily quests you don't have the obligation to grind the same quests every day: you can do the ilum quests one day and the belsavis ones the next, you can group up to do world boss hunting and open world pvp and then come back to corelia to its daily quests, you can do some FPs and OPs in between, you can can go exploring for datacrons, rare items and eastern eggs another day, you can coordinate with the opposing faction and sandbox your own adventure in any of the galaxy's beatiful environments... Posibilities, posibilities, posibilities. What I'm trying to say is that the game actually provides with enough content and variety to keep you busy on a diversified basis, notwithstanding there a lot of room for improvement and expansion. Problem is when the playerbase is lazy or unimaginative enough to not to take advantage of the current posibilities and mechanics. As a MMORPG veteran (first one was the original Neverwinter Nights in the 90's) I've witnesses how younger generations don't want to make a modicum of effort to make their gaming style original and creative in spite of having more technological resources and much more content than we had back in the day. Grind, you say? Mate, you should have seen Ultima Online or EQ.. It's like those guys watching youtube videos to know how to get datacrons or beat OPs instead of trying by themselves, or like that content locusts who rush through the game to get to lvl cap ASAP without taking time to digest and appreciate what the game has to offer. Or like those guys who go running to complain and cry to the forums instead of stopping and trying to be a little insightful about their so-called issues. At the end of the day is not big surprise because after all social games, by their own nature, reflect what you see on the streets: and anxiety ridden, dumbed down, spoiled society.
  5. Hey, hope to see you back once you upgrade your toaster. Some people running antique or non-gaming rigs vent their frustation over a game they technically cannot run spewing disinformation and bile on the forums. At least you were almost sincere (i say "almost" cause the console game comparison ).
  6. Excuse me, are we playing the same game? Of course, you are trolling and spewing bile,,, Best tactical military shooter so far, at least on the PC version.
  7. Hey folks, this is a good one!! Damn Bioware that forces the players to participate in an scalating conflict between the republic and the sith empire!!
  8. With all due respect but after all the people that have gone through real pains and have knocked their heads against the wall to reason with you, I still don't know if you are a subtle troll, if you are on drugs or if you are having a bad day. If it's not the former, my suggestion is to take a cold shower and an ibuprophen, rest a bit a/o make love with your partner. Your brains will appreciate. EDIT: after seeing your edit and some other posts of yours, i'm definitely inclined to think you are a troll like a rancor. Good day to you sir.
  9. Funny enough, the guy was saying a few posts before that this type of events should be restricted to RP servers. Now we discover he's playing in a RP one You're losing your time as other people have tried real hard to explain him how his logic is contradictory and flawed (if you don't believe me, check the entire thread). No way because, as I say, this people are insatiable. Lose-lose scenario.
  10. I had mixed feelings a couple of months ago but after the guild summit, the changes in 1.2 and the notion that they are taking steps in the right direction (with regards to Role Playing, open world feeling, world interaction, competitive PvP, endgame posibilites...) my answer is YES. So please, update my previous post in the current thread. Of course, they've still got loads of stuff to improve a/o implement but I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, at least until summer.
  11. Not matter how many explanations or how much logic you present up front to the professional QQers, whiners are always going to whine and present some ridiculous reason a/o metaphor as an argument. Next time they will complain about bearing lightsabers instead of battle-axes or about being given free play time as a reward instead of having to pay their monthly subscription, it is always a lose-lose scenario with these people. They are insatiable.
  12. This is the way BW!! I'll support any action or idea which promote the feeling of living in a breathing and dynamic world. Yesterday was a blast, the server was bubbling with activity, loads of funny situations going on, natural PVP taking place, authentic sense of emergency and confusion. Overall, an absolute winner event!! If they follow in this direction they'll have my subscription for the foreseeable future. Cheers BW, you nailed it!
  13. Absolute love it! If they keep on in this direction (world events to promote the notion of a livin, breathing world) they'll have my subscription for the foreseeable future. Well played BW!
  14. This thread is the living proof that, no matter how cool and pertinent an idea is, some little chickens are always going to whine, nitpick and babycry. Well done Bioware, this is the direction a lot of MMO veterans want for this game to take: an open, living and interactive world.
  15. What a gem, absolutety hilarious!! Well played Bioware PD: on a serious note, would be great to have more Role Playing and sandbox elements in the game.
