  1. I use the standard movement keys (W forward, S back) and rebind the turn keys into strafe keys (A strafe left, D strafe right). For my powers I set quickbar 2 up with Q, E, R, T, F, G, V, B, ` each with a power. Further, I always set my interrupt as "F", a channeled AOE (like Death from Above) as "T", a defensive power as "B", and so on. Makes it easier when I switch to a character that I have not played as much. (I have 18 characters now, can be hard to keep up, and very difficult if all of them had different set ups). And, finally, like an above poster, I use a Razer Naga mouse with 12 thumb buttons. My mouse is where I hit keys 4-9, using the keyboard itself to hit keys 1-3. If anyone is interested in my full set up just ask, I find it very useful and now that I am used to it, it is very easy to use.
  2. Personally, I found the starter planet for the JC trite and predictable, with no interesting dialogue, clichéd NPCs and an absolutely terrible companion. The quest that you mention was decent (and yes, it was the high point of the JC class quests), but even the white speck on top of chicken poodoo is still crap.
  3. I find it amusing how you (the OP) and I rate the different stater worlds/storys. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, everyone has different tastes, and I know that my tastes are vastly different from most, lol. I rate the starter worlds and quests thusly: 1. Bounty Hunter/Hutta 2. Sith Warrior/Korriban 3. Trooper/Ord Mantell 4. Agent/Hutta 5. Smuggler/Ord mantell 6. Knight/Tython 7. Inquisitor/Korriban 8. Uninstalling the game 9. Selling my computer and never going online again 10. Consular/Tython.
  4. Personally, my favorite stories are BH (which you have completed) and the Agent's. I would add my vote to the others in this thread, for you to roll an agent and take a good look at that story. My rankings of the story lines: Bounty Hunter: 7/10, but the BH has some of the most amusing lines and a couple of scenes that were absolutely awesome. Agent: 9/10. Lots of opportunity to be very good or very, VERY bad. Interesting twists and the whole thing is exceptionally well written. Warrior: 7/10 While it is mostly predictable, it is also an enjoyable story with some of my favorite companions in the game. (pretty much what a poster above said) Inquisitor: 5/10 I did not really like it, but it was not horrible. A couple of interesting companions, but I was also hampered by my dislike of the Assassin playstyle. Smuggler: 8/10 Mostly due to the sarcastic wit of the main character, the story was "OK" but the smart-*** comments made my laugh. Knight: 7/10 Pretty standard stuff, but the story had some nice fights, and the writer knew how to pace it. Trooper: 6/10 I love my troopers, but the story is rather "meh" to me. I did enjoy the companions, and I like being able to outfit them all to actually look like an elite squad. Consular: 0/10 I can not express how much I hated this story. It was poorly written, uninteresting, slow to develop and utterly forgettable. Also, the companions are some of the worst in the game (and Theron is probably the absolute worst companion in any game I have ever played) The only highlight in this pile of garbage is Nadia, who was at least interesting and not a cliche' driven waste of programming.

You can also use the set piece gear as-is and simply change the look of the gear through the "Outfit Designer" I already have 5 tabs for different looks for several toons, without changing the modded gear I am using, makes it much easier and chepaer than having to add MK-10 kits and 186 mods to new gear just because I want a different look.
  6. My main is a Jugg Tank, and I also regularly play a Jugg vengence DPS. Both of them were a lot of fun to level, but the DPS Jugg requires a little more effort. While you can kill a group quicker with a DPS spec, you will also move a little more slowly between groups (in some, but not all, situations) due to the need for increased healing. My Tank Jugg could move from group to group to group with almost no downtime (using Quinn as a healer in some situations, but primarily Vette for the extra DPS). I also found that the Tank really "comes into it's own" in the mid 30's. In that level range you will have good defenses and acceptable damage. And it only gets better from there. Once you hit the early 40s you should be pretty unstoppable in most missions (while leveling, and even at-level FPs should not be an issue). I think I had the most fun leveling as a Tank, but many of the people I play with in this game prefer to level up as a DPS and then switch.. Luckily, switching specs is pretty easy. I would suggest that you chose either tank or DPS, buy the appropriate mods/armors/enhances for that spec, then level up for 8 levels (until it makes sense to get new mods) and then switch to the other spec and buy the new stuff you need for that spec. That should give you a good feel for both specs and you can then decide which you want to remain,
  7. I am always excited to see what the next powers/abilities will do, especially in conjunction with what I already have. I look forward to hitting the level that provides the next power, meaning something that I put on my bar and actively use, as opposed to the passive abilities which are powerful, but do not quite have the "OOO SHINY" aspect to them. If I burn out on a character it is usually after I have run several ops with them at lvl 60, at that point they can start to be a bit stale. But I simply move to another of my characters and play them for a bit, then come back to the other characters when I feel the urge. Another thing you could try is "Respeccing" them. Taking your Jugg Tank and going the Rage path instead is quite a change up from the previous play style, and my help you with not burning out so fast. That is true for every class in the game, even Operatives moving from Concealment to Lethality will feel much different (Lethality is my current favorite spec to play, but check with me in a week, that may change, lol)
  8. This is an example of someone being deliberately obtuse. Gear from boss fights is NOT purchased with credits. It is earned by playing the game. There is not a single instance in this MMO (or any other MMO , to the best of my knowledge) when you can buy an unlimited number of a common item and immediately resell that item to the same vendor for a profit. In some games it is possible to buy items at a low price, travel to another vendor and resell the items for a profit, but in those instances it is part of the game play (thinking of EVE here, or any other game that includes trade and the risk entailed by it). But when you are traveling to the new vendor you are frequently risking the items that you are shipping. That is part of the fun of those games, and the greater the risk (typically) the greater the reward. In this case, it is irrational to assume that purchasing an item for 1 credit and immediately reselling that item for a 99 credit profit is "working as Intended", anyone that claims otherwise is either ignorant, lying, or attempting to justify their irresponsible behavior. And none of that should be allowed to stand.

  10. I am Tickdoff-Tank, I was here for some of Beta, and played regularly through Explosive Conflict. I have many characters that were well geared back in their day, but are sadly out of date now. I have an Arsenal Merc (my main I think), a DPS Jugg, Assassin tank, Operative Heal (will most likely go DPS though, I suck at healing), Jugg Tank, and a couple Pub toons as well. I prefer Emp side and I love doing FPs and Ops. I am experienced in many MMOs, have Vent, Mumble, TS3 and Raidcall currently installed and am willing to use another chat service if you do not use one that I listed. I am easy to get along with, I rarely stress out over anything, and especially not anything related to a game. I usually play in the evening (Easter Time Zone, located in North Carolina) but on Sunday and Monday I tend to be most of the day. What I am looking for: A laid back group that is active on voice chat, my main reason to look for a guild is to have people to talk about the game with. I am looking to gear up my new Jugg Tank so I am looking to do a lot of HM FPs and OPs, especially EV, KP and EC (I know they are "old" now, but they are what I remember and I think it would be best for me to get back in the swing of things in the first OPs before tackling the new missions). I have a very sarcastic sense of humor, which is also quite dark. I have been a paramedic for a long time and black humor is just part of what we do I have a wife and 9 year old daughter, occasionally real life must take precedence over the game, now matter how irritating that is. I can no longer stand to be around this *community* The amount of complaining, idiocy, rudeness, entitlement and stupidity displayed by MANY players of this game is just too much. I love the game, I think it will continue to improve (and I truly hope it is around for a long time), but I don;t think that many of the players here deserve to have a good game. I hope their experience here teaches them something, although I doubt it will. But, as I said, I can no longer subject myself to the incessant whining, both on the forums and in game. I may return in the future, but I expect that it will take a while.
  13. Exactly. It appears that NCSoft has decided that they will recieve a better return on their investment by shutting down CoH and putting that money elsewhere. That does not mean that CoH was doing BAD, it means that it was not doing well ENOUGH. (by their metric at least)
  14. I suggest that you do a little research into the topic before you post. Ever heard the old saying "It is better to remain silent and be thought an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"? CoH was making money, was expanding, introducing new content and getting even better with each issue. It may not be a game that you enjoy but it was doing well. Many CoH players are already here, there were quite a few posts on the CoH forums about people coming to TOR, which is why I posted this thread. One of the best parts of CoH was the community and I would love to see more of those types of people in this game. As to WoW, many WoW players came here at launch and I can easily see some of them going back to WoW when it is F2P, even if they are not a full time WoW player. I am not a big fan of WoW, but it can not be denied that it is the most popular MMO out there, so they must be doing something right.
  15. I despise Voss. I refuse to run any missions on that planet aside from my class quests, and I will only go back to do the class quests once I have hit lvl 50. I refuse to even fight the NP simply because it is on Voss, and I am content with never getting my Campaign boots. Simply the worst planet in the game.
  16. I know a lot of people want them, but to me that is a completely useless feature I I dearly hope that it never makes it in this game.
  17. I would ask the group before you start the mission. If not then I would hold out on rolling to see what the rest of the group is doing. If I see anyone need for it (in a PUG) and I can use the crafting mat, then I will roll need as well. But, I try not to be greedy. If I get a mat or 2 early in a run then I will simply pass on others that drop.
  18. Responses in purple. When you are deciding to Need or Greed on an item, it is generally accepted that you choose NEED only for an item that you will use on your character, not a companion. If it is for your companion you should greed it, or ask the group if it is ok. If you consistantly roll need for companion gear you may end up with a bad reputation on your server. This mainly applies to blue and purple gear from FPs, if it is green quality you will most likely have no problems, not many people care about greens. Most end-game gear is BoP (Bind on Pickup) which means that it can not be traded to any other toon, can not be put on the GTN, it can only be REd, equipped by your toon or his companion or sold to a vendor. If an item is BoE (Bind on Equip) then it can be sold or traded untill it is equipped by someone, then it becomes bound. Be careful when rolling for an item, make sure that the stats on the item are for your class/advanced class. If you are a Sith Warrior then do not NEED on a lightsaber with Willpower on it. If you are a DPS Juggernaut then you will not get as much use from a lightsaber with +shield and absorb on it as a Tanking Juggernaut would. Mistakes happen, just try and avoid them when possible.
  19. An individual augment does not add much to your toon. But this is a good thing while leveling. It means that you do not need to constantly upgrade your augments. Especially if you are using orange gear. I would reccomend (if you plan on using augments while leveling) tha you only add augments to orange gear and get a lvl 19ish purple (or 21ish blue) for your primary stat. Put it on the orange gear you plan on keeping and do not upgrade the augment till around lvl 30. The you keep those augments untill lvl 41-43 )or thereabouts) and then get lvl 49 BLUES once you hit 49/50. The difference between 2 lvl 21 augments and 2 lvl 49 augments is not *that* big a deal when you are leveling up (a lvl 49 purple augment adds +18 aim and +12 end, a lvl 19 purple adds +9 aim and +2 end) . To be honest, it is not even that huge at lvl 50, but at lvl 50 you are trying to get the absolute most from your gear that you can, and having 14 augments does add up to enough of a bonus to make it worth the effort.
  20. Thanks for the link. I have looked at that post before but I forgot about it. And it appears that the missing item is a Redoubt/Alacrity purple. Which is no great loss since Alacrity is usually for healers and redoubt is for tanks and no one can be both . One more thing.... Some of the schematics that you can learn are already blue. You can RE those blues into a Purple with the redoubt/overkill/critical prefix. But since you started from a blue instead of a green and all itrems can be REd to 2 additional tiers from their starting point... you can then take that purple and RE it to get the next level of enhancement. BUT.. since the item you are REing is already a purple it will require many more of the hard to get materials and the resulting items may not be worth the time, effort and cost to make. But they are pretty good to have if you can afford them. Last thing, do not get discouraged if your REing is "hit or miss" You have a 20% chance to get a new schematic but that does NOT mean that you will get one after 5 tries. It means that your 6th attempt has the same 20% chance to give a new schematic. Sometime the random number generator will not give you any good stuff, other times you will get a purple really fast. It is all random.
  21. If you have problems leveling a pyro merc then you need to L2P. Sorry, but that is just the way it is.
  22. Just to clear up a couple minor errors by previous posters.... (none were a big deal, but I feel that a slight correction is needed) You can only have *1* CRAFTING skill per toon. So, Armstech, Armormech, Cybertech, Artifice, Biochem or Synthweaving. You can have more than 1 mission skill and more than 1 gathering skill. But, a toon is limited to 3 skills. So you could have Slicing, Scavening and Bioanalysis all on the same toon. You could also have Underworld trading, Investigation and Diplomacy on one toon. BUT (and this is a BIG "but") each crafting skill is designed to work best with one particular gathering skill and one mission skill. Armstech works best with Scavenging and Investigation. Armormech with Scavenging and Underworld Trading, and so on. Slicing is a special case. Slicing was originally the "credit gathering skill" and the missions your companions ran would return lockboxes (with credits in them) or "Mission Discoveries" which are special 1 time missions for the other gathering and mission skills. Not too long ago slicing was changed. Now it still provides Lockbox missions, but Slicers are also the only supplier of the blue and purple quality materials needed to make blue and purple augments. They also remain the primary supplier of mission discoveries. I point out the difference in Slicing because (IMO) it makes a huge difference if you want to run a slicer. I find that running a Slicer toon means that I am NOT crafting. I am the supply side of the business. Pick 2 other NON-Crafting skills to go with slicing. I took Underworld Trading and Bioanalysis, I sell everything that I gather, or I send mats to my alts. But by selling everything I gather I make a TON of credits. At lvl 30 my Sentinel (my slicer) was sitting on about 1 million credits, and I was not even trying to make money. If you are a new crafter I suggest sticking to the skills that work together. Check the skill trainers often, learn all the schematics that you can, or, if moeny is tight, learn the ones that you will use for yourself or your companions. Do not forget and Reverse Engineering. I see that you said "I have made tons of belts" (or something like that), but, how many times have you RE'd (Reverse Engineered) those belts? If the item you make is green quality, then you can RE it to a blue schematic. There are 3 types of Blues (Redoubt +def, Critical +crit and Overkill +power). Once you have a blue version you need the blue materials provided by your missions skills to craft the item. There are 5 types of Purples based off of each blue. So, for every green item you know, there are 14 Purples that you can make. (It should be 15, but to the best of my knowledge there is 1 purple that you can not craft but I can not remember which it is)
  23. There have been cases of people "losing the will to live" and following their partner into death shortly after they lose each other. But the majority of those cases (I am no expert on this subject, but I am a medical professional so I do take an interest when it is discussed) the couple is usually older and has very little in their life apart from their partner. Note, when I say "little left in their life" I do not mean posessions/wealth/comfort, I mean emotional support of the kind they recieved from their partner. I think part of the problem is that there was so little "chemistry" between Padme and Anakin, partly from the horrible writing and poor acting by Anakin. I never really saw the "romance" as an actual romance, it felt too stiff. I think a large number of people agree with that, as evidenced in this thread. With that in mind, it makes it much more difficult to believe that she was so "heartbroken" over Anakin that she let herself die. Especially when she had such a strong reason to live, her 2 children. Also, we never really see any of the heartbreak after she delivers Luke and Leia, we see the birth, then we leave that scene and learn that she died. If we had seen her (listless, uncaring, depressed, wasting away) then it would at least be a visual clue as to what was happening. As it is, it was a poorly done plot device that sounded better on paper than it looks on a screen.
  24. You are not "forced" to do them. You WANT something that costs credits, dailys are only 1 way of getting the credits. And you SHOULD have to pay to change your appearance. I am rather suprised that the prices for removing mods is so cheap.
  25. I don;t mind skipping the trash in a HM or OP, I prefer to kill all the bosses, but I don't complain when we skip a few either. What annoys me is PUGing a low level FP, for XP on a newer toon and they STILL skip half of the fights. I am not arguing for a full clear in every run, but I am in there for XP, I waited a while for the GF to pop and I would like to get a decent amount of XP for my effort. And don't tell me all you want is the lvl 20 daily reward of planet comms, those things drop like crazy already.
