  2. You really should want more hot air moving out of the case more so than anything else and from one direction to the other (e.x. from front to back or from bottom to top, etc). Trying to flush the case with fresh air without any air moving out is going to make things worst for you.
  3. I would be a good example of a Phenom II 2.0Ghz Quad-Core (the laptop quad-core). Those FPS values look just about right. Long story short, any one of those processors should have no problem with SWTOR.
  4. Righ.......................................................t
  5. Didi you try doing it with an AMD Llano APU? Yes, it's not quite a dedicated GPU but it will beat the crap out of any integrated video device I know of and it should be plenty for SWTOR. Then later on when you have the cash to upgrade you can do dual graphics (e.x. AMD A8-3850 & Radeon HD 6670). I wouldn't go any lower than an A8-3850 though. Just a though, although I'm sure someone will disagree.
  6. SWTOR logins and EA/Origin logins really really need to be separated. It's apparently a disaster that's already happened. Mind as well spare anyone else a potential problem...
  7. I always use SWTOR and I pronounce it "swo tor". What's the big deal?
  8. I was actaully hoping for space combat something like STO has. Instead I got shifted back to a single-player Rail Shooter from 1993 with slightly better graphics than the SNES game I'm referring to. It's an okay mini-game, but at what it is currently, it really doesn't add much to SWTOR at all IMO. Don't get me wrong, I like the game, I was just expecting a little more as far as space combat is concerned.
  9. That's okay with me, I never played WOW. I'll have to take your word for it...
  10. Hopefully Guild Wars 2 comes out soon so the SWTOR forum squatters have something else to attack...
  11. 2.0 GHz AMD mobile Quad-Core and I'm not having any problems at 1920x1080 everything high except shadows. 45+ FPS all day, slightly lower in fleet. Most the people who are complaining about performance issues probably have 80+ background processes running while trying to run SWTOR with their computer wrapped in blankets. I honestly think the FPS issues are such a farce. Apparently there are people with desktop computers twice as power as my laptop and are getting almost single digit frame-rates 24/7? What?
  12. Your looking at roughly a 20 ~ 30 FPS difference from the lower end card compared to the higher end card on a "normal" DX 9/10 game considering at least 1080 resolution and 4x AA ~ 8x AA. On SWTOR however, they will probably be very similar at the resolution you want to run the game at. It's up to you which one you want to go with, but the higher end card is quite a bit better regardless.
  13. Integrated Graphics <------- That's your problem. That graphics platform offers NO dedicated video memory. I have a laptop with a AMD Phenom II N930 2.0 ghz quad-core & Radeon HD 5650M: High on all settings except shadows @ 1920x1080 gives me 45+ FPS all day (slightly lower in fleet). This laptop is over a year old, originally cost $715 USD after rebates and was very middle of the road then. Next time you want a laptop with the intention of gaming on it, ask someone if you aren't sure what to look for. Don't trust a name brand, you need to find someone who knows specifications.
  14. Unless the Linux guys get a Linux client as well: Nope Not that either will happen with the availability of dual-booting. It's too much effort for BW right now and their effort is honestly better directed toward other things right now as far as SWTOR is concerned.... Lets give the BSD guys a client too while we're at it.
  15. I actaully got one of these already. You're basically going to get redirected to a Phishing Website that tries to trick you into giving up your information so they (whoever) can either strip your account, re-sell it or use it to spam or scam other players. The best thing you can do is foward any e-mail like this to support@swtor.com (optional), mark/report the message as a phishing scam (if possible) to your e-mail provider and/or just delete the message. I actaully get these occasionally for a WOW battle.net account I never had (never ever played it). It's kind of funny...
  16. I paid $715 USD for my laptop a year ago instead of upgrading my desktop this time around. It runs SWTOR just fine and with more performance at less power than my older desktop (the reason why I didn't rebuild it). Only time it gets even remotely "choppy" is when staring at the Cantina in Sith Fleet at 1920x1080 High (attached to my HD display).
  17. If you want to pay 2/3's more then a Windows Laptop with the same hardware, please do by all means. Otherwise, you need to shop around on sites like Amazon, Tigerdirect, Newegg, etc. If you have any questions about specs, you can ask questions on the hardware thread or other forums on the web that specialize PC support where experienced PC techs/professionals rome around helping out in their spare time. A good example would be the techsupportguy forums. Just ignore any posts that say "only buy brand X or Y". These people most likely don't know squat.
  18. I've gotten 2 on my older character. However, on my newer character, I haven't received any yet. It's a shame because my newer character is exactly 2 credits less without it I'm sure in due time....
  19. What up with people and ATi's "bad drivers"? Set of drivers that gave ATi (which is gone) a bad rep was when the ATi 9600 was popular. That was almost 10 years ago!!!! If you said back in 2002 "ATi has bad drivers" that would have been something I could see, but ever since then driver quality has been relatively similar between Nvidia and ATi now AMD. Both sides have been up and down since then. Traditionally (at least in the past), a lot of games favored Nvida because of open partnerships between them and developers. Higher benchmarks in games optimized for your hardware is only part of the story. ATi had something similar with the Direct X 10.1 series. IMO, I choose AMDs cards because of their balance of reliability and price per performance ratio. Being an IT professional, in my experience, I find more Nvidia catastrophic failures then formerly ATi/AMD. Don't get me wrong, they both have their woes. I've played the SWTOR with both. Guess what? The game relies more on the CPU more so then the GPU, go figure. Now we're getting into a Intel/AMD discussion. Again, some benchmarks tend to favor Intel because of optimizations for their hardware. Gaming wise you could go either way. If you check out gaming benchmarks the two are a lot closer then you think depending on which two processors you're looking at. Then you need to consider price per performance for the entire platform. That includes the cost of the processor, the cost of a motherboard that has the socket that processor fits and any other supporting hardware and its features. Long post short, don't blanket choose something just based on the brand name. Really look into it before you make a choice and and state you opinion. A one or two sentence review of either one of the two doesn't cut it.
  20. No I didn't. That's why I find it hilarious when I get pishing spam for a Battle.net account that never existed. Just could never get into fantasy MMOs.
  21. Your graphics device is completely integrated. You can't switch it out in your model. In the future, you'll want to look for a laptop with a dedicated/discrete graphics device with dedicated graphics memory (preferably GDDR 5). .... or a desktop with a PCI Express x16 slot for graphics cards.
  22. Skill use delays even with low ping. The queues are also annoying at times but not a game-breaker. Otherwise nothing else to actaully complain about.
