I think you will find UO trailblazed the way for major MMO titles, it was also the most revolutionary mmo there has been and still is compared to the crap rolled out over the past few years. Basically the industry must work on the current model - Sign a major licence Massive PR campaign on how great the game will be and give you everyting you ever wanted create 3 or 4 purchase options fluffed out with crap but add 100$ on Cover costs by initial launch sales Launch game sh$t hits the fan Start cutting staff and give lots of false promises to keep customer base subbing for 6 months to squeeze as much profit as possible Go F2P and cash in on micro transactions for the gullible Rinse and repeart with next project We are the ones ot blame for falling for it every time

EA/BW/Mythic don't give a sh$t about the EU player base, better get used to it if youre going to sub to games made and produced by America companies. So lets get this straight, the people defending the emergency patch state they are fixing an urgent issue. Answer, learn to code patches and test properly and don't drop half baked code then they wouldnt need to do emergency maintainence and piss off a significant % of their customer base. Split downtimes per region for a game and company who openly say we want you here for the long term is not too much to be asked, tbh in 2012 its expected and rightly so. BW are showing themselves to be complete amateurs and if they are relying on Mythics experience to get them through this then they need to wake up. Mythic also completely ignored the EU customer base to the point of not fixing broken code on EU servers but was fixed on US. Time to face facts EU players are just seen as moronic cash cows who will accept anything

Mythic (BW's partner) also completely ignored the EU player base when they destroyed the last major licence they got their hands on, far worse than just downtime schedule. Broken content EU , fixed US side as one example. Dont expect BW to change until subs start vanishing and even then its doubtful, remember mmo companies are run by people who have no idea

Its not just for you but the many many thousands who played and loved it. Got 6 years out of UO, I'm lucky to get 6 months out of most new MMO's. No Levels No Quests No Classes As you say all they spent there dev money on was building a completely interactive world to a detail that will never been seen again. As for content again as you said players made it, in spades. Every server had a different world created by players. What is the irony? modern MMO's spend millions on actors, story/quest writers etc and still burn down after 2 years in most cases a lot less. The sooner a modern dev house with solid financial backing realise this they will be onto a winner. Theme park MMO's are short term fun and never will be a long running product that keeps building on subs 3 years after launch (and very expensive to make) That said they must still make a profit on the initial launch sales and 6 months of subs or we wouldnt see so many. I'm really really close to giving up on MMO genre which will be the end of gaming for me as UO killed single player games for me
