  1. I have good news concerning overclocking my CPU (an i7-5820k): I managed to overclock it to 4.0 GHZ and now the FPS problems I've been having with this game have vanished. Whereas before I was getting FPS as low as 22 in Rishi, now I get a constant 60 FPS (with slight variation from 57-62). This vindicates everyone in this thread who said my CPU ws bottlenecking my GPU ( a Titan X) and it also might interest people who have the same problem I did.
  2. Yeah the stock GHz on this new card is actually lower than my previous one by .2 GHz - I made a mistake and thought the stock GHz would be higher than 3.5 GHz, I didn't do all my homework obviously. But since it's already bought and installed, I might as well try to overclock it. I read before buying the CPU that it could be overclocked to as high as 4.6 GHz without causing system instability (maybe that's why I confused its stock speed).
  3. Hi everyone. So I ended up buying a new CPU and Motherboard and increased my ram to 32 GB. The new CPU and Motherboard are an i7-5820k and a MSI X99S, respectively. To my chagrin, the performance increase in games is slight. The processor came stocked at 3.3 GHz so i thought about trying my hand at overclocking it. That didn't go well, so I'm going to bring it to a computer shop and have them try to overclock it. I disabled shadows completely for SWTOR and that has helped with the FPS tremendously (disabling shadows helps with other games too), but the performance increase is still not at a point I'm satisfied with.
  4. Thanks for all the links to places that explain what all this means. You've been more than helpful. Thanks Menace-NZ.
  5. Yeah if the new Direct X 12 is going to need what a new i7 processor - but not an i5 processor - provides, then I rather go with that. I play a lot of different games - new and old - and I rather rest assured knowing that the components I have will be able to keep up with the new technology (such as Direct X 12). Also, getting a new Titan X is within my budget, but I rather stick to a single video card because of the hassle and because I heard that having two of the same video cards would increase performance by 50% at best. The price required for this is not worth it to me. I wanted to thank everyone again for helping me with this (I've read every post) - it's made things a lot easier for me going forward.
  6. I think they'll probably combine servers depending on their populations. WoW did the same thing several years ago.
  7. I do have SSDs already, but I agree that they make games so much more enjoyable since they load information at a fraction of the time HDDs do.
  8. I'll relay to you an interesting comment one of my friends made regarding the upcoming expansion. He has been unsubscribed for at least 2 years (like me): "Seeing the trailer makes me think that TOR isn't going down the toilet."
  9. I don't only play SW: TOR. I am looking for something that will last for several years and be able to keep up with my GPU for gaming. Think I should get an i7 in that case?
  10. Thank you everyone for your advice and useful bits of knowledge regarding computers. Admittedly, I do not know very much about this beyond the bare minimum. I'm going to upgrade my CPU, but I'm not sure which one I should get. I looked on Amazon and the most expensive one I could find is a Intel Xeon E5-2650 v2 Eight-Core Processor 2.6GHz 8.0GT/s 20MB LGA 2011 CPU BX80635E52650V2 - It's too expensive and I have a feeling it is overkill for the purpose of gaming. Another one I found that has a good price is Intel Core BX80646I74790K i7-4790K Processor (8M Cache, up to 4.40 GHz). An even less expensive one is Intel Core i5-4690K Processor 3.5 GHz LGA 1150 BX80646I54690K. Are any of these less expensive ones good enough for gaming?
  11. Huh. I had no idea the CPU would have so much relevance. I've always thought that the GPU was the most important factor in increasing game performance. So, upgrading just the CPU would fix this FPS problem I have, you think?
  12. The worst FPS drops I get are on Rishi, the lowest value being 23 FPS in the slums. Every planet that has expansive terrain, such as Balmorra or Alderaan, I also get large FPS drops. I play with every graphical variable maxed on a 2560 x 1440, 32'' monitor. My question is are the FPS drops the fault of the game or my computer? Every other game I play has a 50 - 60 FPS on maxed out settings (I use vertical Sync). If it's my computer, does anyone have a suggestion of how to increase the FPS in this game? Here are my computer's specifications: GPU: Geforce GTX Titan X CPU: Intel® Core i7-2700k CPU @ 3.50 GHz Memory: 16 GB Ram And I use the Windows 7 Operating System.
  13. Haha, well, I just had a conversation on my trooper with M1-4X. It was precisely about what this thread is discussing. He said "It is a common misbelief that regular people are no match for force users. Despite my data to the contrary, this myth persists."
  14. Just look to the fight between Jango Fett and Obi Wan in The Attack of the Clones. The bounty hunter held his own against the Jedi; not defeating him but at least thwarting him.
  15. Is it normal to have such low FPS in certain places on high end machines in this game?
