  1. DAoC has been out for over 10 years and they didn't even close it down when it was down to 5k subs but this is going away in a year!
  2. If there are so many F2P games out there and they are so great and perfect why are you here? Why did you go out and specifically buy a sub game when you love F2P so much and it is so much better? Wouldn't it make more sense for you to go to one of the many games that are already the way you want them instead of having everyone who came here switch to something they went out of their way to avoid?
  3. So you are confused why your team didn't want a person in gear that is horrible for PvP but they thought looked better?
  4. If anything kills this game it will be the non-stop effort of people on these forums to convince everyone that the game is horrible and almost dead that will actually kill it. The game is not nearly as bad off as people on these and other forums are trying really hard to make it out to be. I am not niave enough to believe that all of these non-stop posts and blogs on every forum are all just frustrated gamers. When there are hundreds of millions of dollars on the line people are paid to make an internet perception and the ones trying to make this game seem horrible are hard at work.
  5. I'm sure EA is going to make a business decision on this based on the whiny posts on the forums or the opinions of forum trolls! It is not like it is a business that makes the decisions based on what makes the most profit. There is almost no chance of the game shutting down, the development costs are much higher than upkeep costs and they are just getting in to the point where they try to make money. The only realistic business options are F2P or sub, subs make more money if you can keep up a good base and that is what all these companies really want. If they do the cost benefit analysis and it comes out that F2P will make more profit they will switch.

    http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=500915 This is what I am assuming is true. This was stickied in the Sorc section but it should apply to anyone. This seems to be the most accurate information I can find until someone shows me otherwise. Expertise RatingPvP-only stat. Increases your damage and healing done to other players and decreases the damage you take from other players. Healing is increased by "ignoring" part of the Trauma buff that is automatically applied when you enter PvP combat, and thus scales somewhat better in actual effect than the percentage displayed on the character sheet. The damage bonus scale moderately and limits to 50%, while the trauma ignore scales slowly and limits to 30%. The DR portion is now (as of 1.2) calculated directly off of the damage portion, and is equal to 1 - 1 / (1 + DamageBoost%). The net effect of this change to DR is that any character attacking another character with the same amount of expertise will deal the same amount of damage they would deal if both they and the target were at 0 expertise. Previously, the DR portion scaled somewhat better, so, for example, a 1000 Expertise character attacking another 1000 expertise character would deal noticeably less damage than if both characters were at 0 expertise.
  7. What you call not enjoyable is the very reason a lot of people do it. They want to utterly destroy noobs, just like they got utterly destroyed as noobs. You make PvP casual and PvP dies. The people who complain about PvP tend to be the people who do not spend the majority of time PvPing. It doesn't make sense to balance PvP around casuals. Working your way up the food chain from meal to pretador is why hardcore PvPers do this. Just like the way PvEers went from runing BT HM to LI HM to EC to Denova etc. You take away the need to earn anything to get on an even playing field and only casuals will PvP.

    I'm confused because you said earlier that the reason the power was better was because of the experise multiplier. If someone with 700 expertise was against an opponent of more than 700 expertise their multiplier would go away. If I understand the mechanics correctly someone with 700 expertise aginst 1300 would calculate their damage with no multiplyer from expertise and would have to subtract the 500 expertise worth of damage absorption from the other person. So you would have to run the calculations as someone with 0 expertise but higher power against someone with 500 expertise and lower power. Maybe that is how you did it and I just read it wrong. So to clarify I'm saying it would not be Player A with more power and the 700 expertise multiplyer vs. Player B with 1300 expertise multiplyer and it would become Player A with more power and 0 expertise vs. Player B with 500 expertise multiplyer and damage reduction. Again this could be how you did it and I just read it wrong. Not trying to pick on you this stuff interests me.

    I don't think this is correct either. If you are at 700 expertise facing me with 1300 then your bonus damage is 0% and mine is like 10%. This would only be correct if you were facing someone with 0 expertise.You also have to calculate in a significant amount of damage reduction against me.

    Your expertise numbers for full WH are off you are going to be above 1320 even without dual wield. I think you get to 1322 or 1323 if I remember correctly and 1360 with DW.

    When you are calculating your DPS gain from power over expertise after 700 are you calculating in the 7% or so damage reduction you will face against a 1300+ expertise opponent?
  12. I have a guy that didn't even play PvP until after 1.2, I ran in recruit gear against premades and War Hero geared players and I am already at full augmented War Hero so don't give me the it takes years of horrible grind BS.
  13. IF I RESPOND IN ALL CAPS WOULD THAT BE MORE APPROPRIATE????? If you made it easier to grind to the next tier of gear, people would not bother doing it. If people were on an equal playing field, they would not bother PvPing in this game. There are games already made that have PvP and take gear out of the equation. There is a reason why those people are there and these people are here. MMO PvPers in general want to destroy people in lesser gear than they have. They only want to be challenged by people that have put in the same grind they did to get their gear. They don't want normilization, easier tiers, similiar rank etc. that is why ganking and premades are so popular in these games. People want to feel like they put in their time and now they can destroy anyone who didn't do the same. You take that away and you take away the appeal for a huge amount of the PvP players. Call it a right or passage, epeen, elitiest etc it doesn't matter they all got stomped when they were fresh 50's so they want to stomp fresh 50's. That is why I see the best geared highest rated teams on my server happily playing normal WZ with premades destroying people in recruit gear all the time. These are all people in full augmented War Hero that have min/maxed swithed out mods. These are also the most hardcore PvPers and the people BW listen to when they are balancing PvP. Simply put if that is not the type of PvP you want, then you picked the wrong game.

    As I understand expertise, if you have 1200 and I have 1300 that is the same as you having 0 and me having 100, they cancel eachother out. Even that will give me close to 2% more damage on every attack I do against you and you will do 1.5% or something close to that less damage to me on every attack. So if you have 700 and I have 1300, that power is not going to make up for it. I am going to be doing almost 10% increased damage against you while you are doing less damage to me. 500 power is not going to give you enough bonus damage to make up for me doing 10%ish more damage to you, while you do less damage to me. This doesn't even begin to address the situation when multiple people are attacking you, as the damage reduction is going to be to al of them at a % base.

  16. This is the part that makes total sense as a business. You spend all that time to hit 50, but are you done? No you are back to grinding again, playing again tomorrow because you were a few comms short of that next piece. Then you need to upgrade that piece. Then you need to augment that piece. Then you need to switch mods around, all which bring you back the next day. If you got to 50 and were done people would quit this game in a matter of a couple of weeks. Gear progression is what keeps people playing these games.

  18. Valor ratings do not equal gear if you got them before 1.2. I know people in the 80's without a piece of War Hero gear because they did PvP early then quit PvP since 1.2. IMO if you want a normalized PvP you bought the wrong game, the entire business model of these games is to get you to keep grinding for that next piece of gear. I think if you couldn't get better gear than the other guys 90% of the PvP players wouldn't even bother. These games boil down to two things, and really two things only at end game: PvE Get Gear set A to be able to do Instance B, Get gear set B to do instance C, Get gear set C to do instance D .. repeat until maxed then you "optimize" or "min max" your gear until xpac then replace it with greens PvP Get Gear set A to be able to compete with people in gear B, get gear set B so you can compete with people in gear set C get gear set C until maxed then you "optimize" or "min max" your gear until next xpac then replace it all
  19. It really does favor DPS with taunts. I can run in pure DPS spec as a PT and end up with at least 20k protection without ever gaurding anyone or slowing down my DPS at all. When I run in tank spec it is hard to get less than 10 medals.
  20. I think the PvP relic changes did exactly what they wanted for PvP but they just didn't think about them being best in a lot of scenarios for PvE. In PvP they drastically reduced the burst, especially with the adrenal changes. People are doing more consistent damage but less burst, but as a tradeoff the healers also have that much more power (and stats from augments) so they have bigger heals added to less burst which equals a longer time to kill in PvP. Of course this ended up making it so that without healers you die faster and with enough healers you never die in PvP.

    If a Sorc/Sage actually specced in to the talents that reduce damage and increase their bubble I bet they can mitigate more damage than a tank in PvP. You guys get to basically bypass all defense on attacks so I guess that is the tradeoff.
  23. The entire world is fillied with useless rich D-bags that walk through everything in life because they have money. We play games to get away from that part of real life. If the game becomes another aspect of life where if you are rich you can get all the best stuff with no effort then I will simply quit and find another game. Would you play Monopoly with someone if they could buy more game money when they ran out of money? How is it hard for people to understand that we want a game that is played based on game rules where giving extra money doesn't change the game or rules? What is next, in poker you can but a few Ace's just to have in case you don't get good cards? In chess are you going to buy a few extra Queens, heck why not just buy all queens who needs pawns? Maybe we should even take it a step further and just sell screenshots that say you won?
