  1. The door of the Cafe Force Noir opened with a slight squeak. You could enter the Cafe from every planet if you knew how, lightning illuminated the background and cast a shadow of Rouven into the room. Blue raindrops ran down his trenchcoat. He tipped his hat and flung a coin at the waitress as he made his way in slowly towards the bar. The coin vanished in the blouse of the waitress and a drink flew straight into Rouven's outstretched hand - it was the force cafe after all.

Now that I made my utmost impressive 60's detective style entrance (you all noticed that, right? right?) - I like the idea. Wonder though how far "off-topic" we are allowed to go, since there is no real off-topic forum.

  2. (...) It also becomes annoying when the only other people about at your level on the planet where you're doing missions are also of the same class as you and, therefore, can't do much if you want to focus on progressing with the story.

While you will have to do the actual class mission twice you certainly can do it with someone else of your class. There is a setting to allow sharing same class story missions - browse your preferences, on top of my head I'm not sure where exactly is is.

  3. Living room. Way ahead of you my friend.

Nonono - haven't you heard? Thats why we invented entertainment rooms! And they followed us even there!

Clothes too! Yes you heard it here first! Shirts, pants, jackets - if theirs are not handy they wear ours!

    The horror.

But what can we do? Especially in regards to gaming. I mean we learnt it here - the experts tried everything, marketing tactics failed, there is no escape. Did we try reverse psychology yet?? :D

Too scary. You forgot that they even took our TV remotes!

  5. Paladinnight: I am wondering why the decision was made to allow PvP crafters the ability to buy the schematics for the PvP orange gear, versus obtaining the schematics similar to PvE players which are forced to play the reverse engineering game in the hopes of obtaining a schematic. This decision has resulted in an economy that the only crafted orange boots and gloves require the buyer to PvP. Could we possibly get schematic boxes purchasable via credits (or Black Hole commendations) added to the vendors? If this is not possible, can we at least be allowed to reverse engineer the Black Hole gear instead of only Campaign gear?

David: In either PvE or PvP, you need to consume a certain amount of that content to gain the appearance associated with the highest level gear. PvE and PvP will never have identical distribution mechanisms because of their inherently different progression. The PvP boxes were necessary to ensure that PvE gear wasn’t the best PvP gear due to the augment slot gap. In Game Update 1.2, this means there’s the inequality you mentioned for obtaining orange boots and gloves. There are ~75 new orange PvE hand and feet schematics in Game Update 1.3 (each). We can’t make schematic boxes for Campaign items, because it would conflict with the reverse engineered versions of those items.

I’d like to allow any gear to reverse engineer for discoveries, but there’s a limit to how many recipes players can acquire. We’re looking at ways to improve that and apply systems more universally, but it’s not currently possible. Only Campaign can be reverse engineered because if we make both a Campaign and Black Hole a reverse engineering recipe, they will be the same result with different names but they will both count against the upper limits.

Maybe I'm the only one blissfully unaware of this - could we elaborate a bit more what kind of limit we are talking here? Should I not learn every available (low level) recipe to outfit my other characters so as to leave room for potential "good" or "rare" higher level ones?

  6. I never had the chance to really play pen and paper back in the day, once or twice maybe. But I cannot imagine anyone ever asking - "Hey, when are we getting to endgame here?" - "How many more monsters do we have to kill before xyz?"

A lot of the culture has changed and thus the spirit a bit. I myself am no longer blissfully unaware of the "stats" and "mechanics". I didn't know what was to come, hadn't looked up stuff online (partially because nothing or not much was available). You got information in the game, from other players, that would often venture with you and help you.

The occasional "drop" was exiting, even if you didn't need "willpower", it was new and the numbers where higher, that had to be good!

I like the term love affair, because like with actual partners, after a few you start noticing flaws, maybe even looking for them however conscious and might not be as forgiving anymore as with your first love.

  7. So in Wow you can solo the dungeons at level now? Must have changed quite a bit in the last few years.

Either that or you are doing something ... different, because I have no problems doing solo content alone ... umm with my trusted sidekick aka companion.

Give us more details on what is going on and we might be able to help or give you some pointers.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

  8. Not totally sure I can follow you here, maybe I'm just missing a bit of the context. My best bet/feedback, less explaining - more showing emotions/character.

"Operations" - ah yeah, fancy talk. We used to just go in there guns blazing and raided the place, simple plans work the best.

If that's the drift. Hope it helps.

Edit: There is always the danger of someone not getting the joke, but that might be better then to bore the audience with explanations they don't need - tough balancing act.

  9. Humm ... how about trying to translate "selective hearing" to "selective reading"?

I mean, if you've been on game forums for a while there should be almost nothing surprising anymore. It's the same pattern, most topics are the same - a few twists here and there. But every now and then you find some gems - the keepers. For me that doesn't necessarily means it's something I can contribute to - but it's worth reading and might give me new ideas, thoughts or simply a laugh.

As much as moderation of forums can do (and I think they are doing a great job, as well as balancing what to moderate and what not) - at the end it's up to us.

Well, that's the best I can do trying to give you a reason to "stay" on the forum. If it starts to make your game experience less enjoyable then do take a little break. Other than that I will miss reading your threads :)

  10. Not married to him yet, but yeah. I actually met my boyfriend on WoW. xD Go figure. It's been two years though and neither of us were looking when we met, so it just kind of fell into place. :]

Anyway, on to your question. My boyfriend stopped gaming pretty much entirely. He hates that I play games I think. I can't even talk to him about games anymore, he gets quiet and won't say anything. :< I've never gotten the "You play too much!" speech, but I have gotten the, "That's such a waste of money, I don't get why you still play" speech.

He has mastered the dark secret art of silence, that's impressive! I'm still learning, doesn't do me too good, my wife usually wins those rounds. Thank god I don't get the money speech. Then again we're both not overspending on things.

Well, seems like most don't have a problem with that really.

Not really sure why you would go to consoles ... but I guess it counts as gaming :D

  11. Mhh, I think that with the buffs might be coincidence. All I'm looking at when I'm spreading the love is what buffs the character already has.

In general I go by characters for the addressing part or I avoid the he and she by saying the name. With most of the fantasy names you can't tell anyways :p

Attention or no attention ... heck, I'll try it. "LF1M esseles social run - I'm a guy! Not sure about the other two!"

Now here's a question for the married girls - if any of you is together with a guy that is not into gaming - do you get heck for playing too long? Things like "Do you have to play again?!" or "You are not spending enough time with me!"

Personally I'm beyond that stage already, but there have been times of tension. I imagine it's harder for a guy to "make up" for it :D

  12. (...) I'm sure most people (like myself) read the title, opened the thread to read the first post, noticed the number of pages, and skipped to the end to post.(...)

Which would really be a shame since there is so much nice stuff in between! This of course is something that is true for most long threads.

I guess in the end it's about personal attitude - which will depend on how serious you take this "matter". When I read the title I though "this sounds fun". I honestly did not expect a dry essay about female gamers and being presented true facts.

To me there are four reasons why I participate or read the forum:

    - having problems of a technical nature with the game

    - seeking information gameplay wise or trying to help in return

    - keeping up to date, things to come, dev tracker along with giving feedback on that

    - "socialising" with the community

This thread for me falls into the last category, same as Fan Art, Short Stories or the Star Wars Lore section.

Poking a bit of fun and laughing in return at some of the hilarious answers you will be able to find here. If you are able to laugh at this matter, or yourself (not directed at anyone personally).

This is only one side though, which is sort of the best part - it might trigger a train of thought. Was it yesterday that the "marketing games" came up - anyways, I have two kids, a boy and a girl. It's great to see them grow up, develop their own personalities and I had actually written some stuff up here but then decided against it. Why? Because for me it is important to at least have a feeling that there is a certain consensus about how we communicate with each other. If it boils down to "this is all bollocks" - then I'm not in the mood to share.

This is neither good nor bad, I believe it simply takes time to grow a community - as such I am trying to do my part and I feel that the type of threads like this one are able to evolve this. It's something that we can all contribute to or have an opinion, maybe even experience about, we can play with it and establish a "getting to know" each other on a certain basis.

Look at me rambling, going way overboard here, oh sorry, yes, you can wake up again. I know, men are supposed to get straight to the point but I like to play the sneaky backstabbers! Alas my shadow is stronger as a tank *sigh*

Oh one more thing, a thread about guys? Come on, that would be the shortest thread ever. :D Boring!

  13. Compare the price of the complete item vs the cost of the mods. Compare if you would upgrade all mods or not.

Well that's what I do while levelling. By now I do have some crafters, you might actually like some mods from the GTN (or craft yourself) better.

Alas there is no preview for the weapons, sometimes I gamble on that - in the future I'll likely check the 3D modelviewer on torhead more often.

    Edit: Don't forget your companion.

  14. Too much science talk. let's go back to talking about women....:D

Agreed. While it is interesting to hear the thoughts, there are actual scientists (who pays them actually?) trying to figure that stuff out. Some of them from the biological angle and some of them from the social angle.

Let's talk about distraction, because I wonder about the potential impact and maybe we can shed some light to this.

Now, how to say this, we ... or maybe most ... perhaps even only some of us ... males, have been shopping with our better half or some sort of female at least and we, or the ones that did, probably noticed the concept of distraction. Shiny bling, irresistible to the female, it has to be studied, shoes, clothes the same, there is no walking by that isle without spending an extra 15 minutes until all the merchandise is studied, touched, sometimes tried on as well.

How do you fight this instinct, this urge in game? If you do that is. "Oh look what the boss mob is wearing!" - "Is that a crystal node over there? I'll be right back!" - "Oh, a vendor, let's check it out!"

Is it potentially harmful? "Look at the shiny symbols on the floor, they are beautiful!"

Are you trying to change light saber crystals in mid-fight? "This doesn't match the boss, I need my pink crystal!"

Help me, my wife doesn't play MMO's so I can't ask her!

  15. The force will be strong that day, every class will be utterly OP, abilities don't cost power/ammunition/heat etc, work 1000% faster and do about a gazillion damage each.

This of course will totally ruin the Lore, RP, PVP, FP's and OPs, will be unfair on lower pop servers and result in massive griefing on higher pop servers upon which we will see a couple of forum threads emerging about 2 minutes after it goes live.

My second guess, everyone get's a wookie cookie.
