  1. The Powertech is not the class you are looking for. They use guns as a blunt objects.
  2. The video shows that Operative can kill a passive or surprised sorcerer in 3-4s. His skill level isn't relevant here, the amount of damage produced by a stealth class is. 3-4s is too quick. Way too quick for a game that does not have detaunts. Triple that time for the same scenario and the target will have a small fighting chance even when his one CC break isn't on cd.
  3. They should have made the valor reward based on valor of your opposition. More rewards from rewarding higher valor rank players, less valor from defeating lower ranks. That would make the initial progression slower, but it would be easier to catch up later. This worked in WAR, I wonder why they decided to drop it.
  4. Ah, 21/2/18 aka Carolina Parakeet (check Powertech forums ) It's a good build and I used it for a last week. It's a lot better at 50 with additional 40% HIB armor ignore from Tactics. Its weakness is its reliance on Incendiary Round for most of its heat management. If the enemy dispels it or if you find yourself switching targets often, it will be hard to manage your ammo regen.
  5. I suppose it's same for Powertechs, but my Vanguard laughs when HIB (Rail Shot) cd resets, and shouts when StockStrike (Rocket punch) cd resets. Really, no need to watch anything, just listen.
  6. No. Shield Rating = Absorb >>> Defense Rating.
  7. When I see them jumping on our squishies, I usually pull them towards me. And I do remember getting my *** kicked several times in this situation, by operative who has already blown his opener, but his melee dps in next 10-15s or so was still enough to kill me. It could be a gear difference, I didn't have any expertize gear yet, and I am pretty sure that they did. I did learn to keep them pinned and harmless for a while after they pop out of stealth, to avoid any relic/acid blade/adrenal-related injuries.
  8. Elara allows you to be lazy and make mistakes, and a lot of them. I remember going against same level champion mobs, who would be unable to outdamage Elara's healing. That level of laziness. That's why I switched to Aric on Belsavis and didn't regret it for a second, we blasted through the rest of the game without any incidents. Elite guards at the end of chapter 3 were no problem either. Today I tried Elara again for a while, while doing dailies on Illum and it was a miserable experience. She could keep up my HP, but I had to kill everything myself and my kill time basically doubled. While Aric could be relied on to mop up trash that escaped my AoE or even take down a strong mob on his own in relatively short time...
  9. What is missing is a heavy duty combat support class, with strong buffs and debuffs, both single target and aoe. Ground targetted AoE buffs/debuffs, with stronger versions channeled, altering accuracy, alacrity, cast time, critical chance, movement speed, illusionary target decoys, punishment skills etc. Basically a GW mesmer
  10. Classes do change over time. What is more important are players, a good player is always valuable addition. Ask yourself if the guild is right for you. They are obviously min-maxing and willing to reject players who are not playing FOTM classes. My feeling was that if you shared that mindset, you would already reroll a different class.
  11. There is one thing left to say. Thanks for showing the truth.
  12. Full Auto, High Impact Bolt. Maybe Energy Blast
  13. As a dark side Trooper: *threaten the child with the blaster* got me hooked right at the beginning. And the ever growing list of dead senators who made a mistake and pissed me off. Or just were in the wrong place (near me) at the wrong time (always). It's nice to see that most Republic commanders are competent people, willing to make sacrifices (with a little help).
  14. One of least played classes is Powertech/Vanguard, and this class is one of game's best hidden secrets. I wanted to roll a trooper, but I couldn't decide if I wanted Commando (awesome damage, a big gun, heals) or a bland looking Vanguard (coming from WAR, I knew the priceless value of Guard/Taunt in PVP). After playing it to level 50, I am dead certain that the bland class is actually Commando and Vanguard is a highly versatile swiss knife of doom.
  15. Or go all out and replace all mods in Supercommando armor pieces with Combat Tec/Eliminator mods. Offensive stats + 5% flat damage bonus to everything, when guarding someone. Win.
  16. Frankly, Aric and Elara are our only useful companions (and maybe M1-4X, if you desperately need a tank). Tanno Vik and Yuun are melee fighters (a heapload of other problems, like AI path, etc), and on top of that you can't keep their weapons updated. There is no moddable techstaff or techsword, you can't buy them at any vendor and as quest rewards, they are extremely rare - my companions are still equipped with their default weapons. That leaves friendly Armstech crafter as the only "viable" source of their weapons.
  17. Ah, Rackiera, that name brings memories. I was in Ascension on Karak Norn and we fought alongside his guild many times against Destro zerg. He is right. Warhammer just like the real history repeatedly demonstrated that smaller disciplined force with a solid battle tactic can beat unorganized hordes many times their numbers. SWTOR is no different. But rallying Republic players will be hard. Warhammer had far more pvp-minded population and players were slowly introduced into battlefield from tier 2 (levels 10-20), when they had a first real taste of siege battles and warband vs warband combat. Here, players get thrown into RvR element only when they reach max level through 50 levels of carebearing or arenas. They are not prepared for RvR and most of them have no previous experience with any RvR at all. They don't know the nature of Zerg and its fragility. That will take time.
  18. How do you expect to finish your PVP dailies in Ilum without any opposition? You can't get PVP rewards without doing PVP, period. There is nothing that can be done to fix Ilum. Ilum isn't broken, the game is. And it's broken, because people, players are dumb and think that if everyone rolls Empire, it will work out somehow.
  19. I left my BH and my guild shortly after launch, because there were too many Siths and I originally wanted to play on Republic's side. Our bugs are cosmetic, mostly. The skills register their damage at the correct time, just the animation and number popup is delayed. And of course, I like Trooper's story and our companions.
  20. The odds are incredibly stacked against you, so all you can do is to grab everything that can help. My experience so far: Offensive: 1) If you see an operative in your range: - dot him. Make this your habit. Every time you see an operative without dot, dot him. - if you see a enemy cloaky near you, take him out of stealth immediately and dot him. - did I say dot him? 2) If he is fighting against someone: - everything that can create a space between the attacker and his victim is golden. - the next best thing is reduction in incoming damage. Bubble, taunt, guard, whatever your class has available. - heals, if you have them. - focus him down so even if he takes down his target, he will not survive either. Being on a receiving side of stealth ambush is NOT fun, aim to ruin their fun as well. Defensive: - Stay with team mates. - Try to keep your CC break preserved for Operative ambush. Most CC is relatively harmless compared to OP's opener. If you can get your resolve bar filled from other enemies wasting their CC on you, even better. - Stealth opener should give you full resolve bar, so you can use your CC break without worries. Dot the guy, get some separation and run towards your teammates. Use medpak if you can, and continue to kite him. - Do everything you can to stay out of his melee range during the first 15s of his ambush. That should take care of his relic buffs and adrenals, if he used them. - keep dots on him at all times, you don't want him to vanish.

    Trauma Debuf

Healer should be able to buy enough time for himself before he needs help from his teammates. A very very good healer with a good gear should be able to defend himself indefinitely against most DPS classes, unless faced with comparably skilled attacker. A well played glass cannon DPS should be able to solo kill an average healer in 15-30s, depending on amount of mistakes made by the healer.
  22. I took my lesson in Rangehammer Online (Warhammer), where I played MDPS White Lion. I still picked a semi-melee class in this game (Vanguard), but it has enough options against ranged enemies to keep me happy. The only thing that makes me feel like an idiot is when I am trying to take down a sniper from a melee range. It totally breaks the immersion, when I get around his barrier, attack him from the opposite side, and he still keeps pumping these 2-3s casts into me, because that silly energy barrier behind him is somewhat protecting him from all interrupts, pulls, charges..and there isn't enough CC to prevent him from shooting me to pieces. I still haven't figured out what the hell I am supposed to do, except getting to them without drawing his attention and then trying to burn them down. Charging them from the front is obviously stupid idea, but they face no handicap at all at point blank range, even if i get to suprise them. Maybe I will roll a sniper myself to learn what they hate the most.
  23. It can get very overwhelming fast, even for experienced PC Gamer. I am Logitech G13 user and I know it's no easy task to set up everything correctly. Shift, Alt and Ctrl are "modifier" keys on your keyboard, allowing you to press them together with other keys. You can have one skill mapped to "A", another to "Shift+A", "Ctrl+Alt+A", or even "Shift+Alt+Ctrl+A". I don't know what can be done with Naga's or Nostromo's software, but I will assume that it's possible to map a keyboard key to every button on Naga and Nostromo. You don't want to have same key binds (like key "2") on both devices, unless that's exactly what you want. I will try to explain how I found my setup for the game, but it's pointless trying to take over someone's else configuration, these devices are about maximum ergonomics and user comfort, and everyone has different expectations. ------ First, start with a level 1 character. That way you have to deal with level 1 skills, targeting and movement only. It's a good idea to have some plan how to map everything. For example, my thumb controls the movement, rest of my fingers on the left hand control skill activations. My mouse is for camera orientation and my mouse buttons are for targeting. 1 ) Start with movement keys configuration. Bind Move Forward, Strafe left, Strafe Right and possibly Move Back to your thumb pad. The biggest advantage of Nostromo and G13 pads over standard WASD keyboard layout is that your thumb controls your movement, leaving the rest of your fingers free to use any skill while running in any direction. 2) I'd recommend delegating target controls to your mouse buttons. Target nearest enemy, Target next enemy and Target previous enemy are a good start. 3) Figure out which 4 keys are naturally under your fingertips, when your hand rests on the Nostromo. These keys are your most important keys, "default" keys, and you should use them for your most frequently used skills. Start using them with the combat skills you get at level 1 and first few levels. 4) As you level up, you will unlock more skills. If they are more important than those you have assigned to default 4 positions, replace them. If not, bind them to the nearest available free key. Rest is up to you, but the general idea is to have your most often skills on your default keys and on keys most comfortably accessed from your default hand position. If it takes more effort to reach a button, a less important skill should be mapped onto it. One exception to the rule are special skills used in PVP that have to be activated as quickly as possible, as a reaction to a surprise development (your opponent vanishing, Operatives jumping on you out of stealth, etc). You will want to bind them to a button that can be pressed instinctively in your sleep
  24. Only on strong and weak mobs, it never worked on elites for me.
