  1. It is random. But way to encourage others. Maybe some like the crafting. Even more, if nobody did any crafting, you would not be able to buy what you need at GTN because nobody would be making it. So someone needs to do it. As for it's being useless 'endgame' there's a lot of game between rolling a new char and 'endgame' and some of us like to do it other than naked. I personally don't even understand all this emphasis on getting to 50 as quick as possible. The story is great. Take your time and enjoy it. That's why they hired writers to write it. Crafting can be a money sink and one should be judicious about spending a lot on it until they have enough credits for training etc. and that lvl 25 speeder you will want. right away. $48000 creds. Save up for it. Upgradeable gear is always good (oranges) because you only have to swap out mods and armors and you can get those with the commendations unless you've outleveled. But re-ing for higher tier items is completely random.
  2. THere seems to be some misunderstanding about crit bonuses. I'm an artificer (250) at this point. Nobody in my crew has a crit bonus. BUT I have had Cedrax crit on focii (focusses), generators (offhand items) that are artifact and allow augments. So just because you don't have a crew member with the actual crit bonus, doesn't mean it can't happen. It does. I suppose it's utterly random. It usually happens if requesting a blue item, and then you'll get an "overkill" or whatever, and then he'll turn out a superior with a augment slot. Matter of fact, the ship droid critted once on a generator as well, and he has no bonuses. So it is not impossible or unheard of, to crit in Artificing. I sold my superior items at the GTN so I don't have screenshot proof, but I was as surprised as anyone it happened.
  3. This worked. 1. press holo 2. holo hangs 3. press esc (gets UI back) 4. Press holo again now get the right cutscene, end quest, rewards, etc. I have added this update to my ticket with bioware. They should add this to their list of workarounds.
  4. I have same problem. Tried various things. Leaving Tatooine. Reset quest and redo boss. Each time...no joy. Still carryiing the open quest with me. I'm on English servers but since verything but the buttons here are in flawless English I thought I'd add... A fellow player pointed me here. I have 2 open tickets on it. Happened to a guildmate last night too. Same thing exactly. Will try to esc try again immed. and see if that works. I've tried all the other stuff.
  5. no, I have gotten both. It's why I'm here, in fact. If I switch between my main and my alt, and both are crafting, Underworld Trading (from my Alt) will show up as a 4th usable skill on my main. And I have sent my companion on one of the missions. Then it goes away next time I log in, or craft.
  6. I don't know if this has been mentioned or not. If I assign my ship droid to craft, and he says "I've improved upon your specifications, Master" .... THAT item, I will RE and it will drop a schematic. At least that's how it seems to work (so listen for that). It might be the same with other companions....one says "the scorekeeper favored us" I never gave it much heed until this a.m. and lo and behold...hint hint*
  7. I am going to have to agree with everything said. I'm playing a squishy healer. At least Bioware had good sense to give me A) Qyzon Fess for a companion. He makes a very good tank, even has taunt and passive funtions. Then, my class (Consular/Seer) has many CC and interrupt functions. Stuns, A 60 second lift into the air to make one mob useless for a while, knockbacks, and buffs (like Force Armor). First, I look at what's ahead. Usually, in a group this might get hard as folks run and charge without much though, but I toss Force Armor on my tank right before the encounter. Can absorb MUCH. (Then toss it on myself). Let him gain aggro, and heal, buff, cc, etc. I know sometimes I get annoyed and would love to use my lightsaber, but most times, it's there for the pesky one that got away. And every time you level, you upgrade their equipment to the best ability you can. Don't just wait for drops. I have picked up quite good equipment that was a waste to junk at a vendor, but I coudln't use it any longer, and I put it up on the Global Market... what I do is split the difference. If I'll get 300 creds to junk it, and I can buy it for 1000, I'll sell if for 730 or so. Guess what, there are smart buyers out there keeping their equip. updated by watching what's for sale because I'm undercutting retailers, but still getting more than trashing stuff. It's not bound until you equip. So look for deals like that. I also artifice, and make my own upgrades for armor and lightsabers, so I am pushing that skill so I can have better than what I can buy. Also, get in a guild, and get your guildies to do their crafting, so that you can buy implants, upgrades, etc. from them. Then it's a matter of winning some Orange level items and keeping them up to date, or buying pvp gear if you must for your tank. Then go fight. I solo'd a good portion of a Heroic 4 quest on Taris (and I'm a newb...really) because we were properly equipped, had our commands figured out, and were prepared. Also, you can't mouse click fast enough to save a fight. In any fight, F1 is you. Hit F1 twice and it's your companion. So F1, F1, apply buff/heal. F1 again is back to you. Tab to any enemy. This game has a learning curve. You are posting in the newb area so figure you are, like I am, a newb. Oh, and there are guides online that help with skill choices for certain builds. You might want to take a look at a few of them. A respec still might be a good choice. Your first one won't cost too much. Second one will set you back from what I hear. Good luck out there.
  8. Yeah. The one on Tython is in the ruins of the old temple and is also a huge droid. At level 10, he one shotted me and my companion. Definitely a group thing. Did it as a group of 4 on Coruscant and it was still miserably difficult, and I had basically finished the planet. This game doesn't force us to play cooperatively, but it certainly makes suggestions that direction Mostly it has been a positive experience, even for a newb like me.
  9. I like your suggestion...I want to use both rows of my hotbar for my character's skills, and still expand the crew member's, so maybe they should go UP? Or in a double row like mine 4-wide 2-high?
  10. Great post/great thread. I did my first raid/flashpoint today as a healer. (my first ever as anything.) Kudos to the tank. I almost never had to worry about my own safety. Only one of the dps guys were pulling a little too much threat. The tank handled it well. One thing I did to avoid healing fatigue...everyone should buff everyone (goes without saying) but the Consular/Sage has a shield that can be applied to anyone, and I kept the tank and any dps getting into trouble shielded. Cost a lot less mana than healing and took less time. It was an absorb thing, so they were getting hit, but not taking damage. Or far less. It was my first time out, with 3 people never before met, pickup group, and we actually succeeded marvellously. I got thanked twice (made me feel all warm and fuzzy) and didn't win many rolls but came out with some commdendations to spend. It's a tense job though, really paying attention, but the rest of the team also did their job by keeping me safe. I hope most of them go this way! I didn't know quite so much was going on,and maybe it was just luck, because they didn't tell me much...I hung back and watched who was up against whom, whom to shield, who to heal, and not to draw aggro, but maybe take out some incoming roving guard before they could screw it up. It really is a team sport. And it's a blast when everyone plays their roll to their best. In the end, I felt amped. (And tired). My very first MMO group encounter and it was a success because folks did like you said. Thanks for this. (I did play Dragon Age - Bioware - before this, and became familiar with the issue of mages pulling threat and tanking. I know enemy mages are serious trouble. Healers or no. I always have a stun or a confuse just in case, and that can make me a target fast. I see I need to learn which talents reduce threat and which create it. I wish there was a more in depth guide. -to answer someone else, the sage tree, in the center section, there's an item that adds 50 pts and then 100 pts. respectively to your mana pool. It helps. Buffs help too, less healing. It is great fun when it's done right.
  11. I had the same thing today. Fes wouldn't talk to me in the lounge on Coruscant, so I thought..why not...and went up to the republic fleet cantina offworld. Lo and behold, we had our conversation. It must have resembled "my ship" I don't yet have, so he felt comfortable talking. It wasn't anything earth-shattering, but a little bit of his history with my master and that he wanted us to be friends like that. Seems we're getting along. He is a great fighter. So T-07 prob. has something on that line to talkt o you about. Try taking a shuttle to the fleet and enter that cantina.
  12. which skills are vital first skills once you choose sage class? I found it difficult to figure out how to heal my companion at first, who did end up doing more of the fighting. I wanted better options for healing than I had. advice please on critical skills early in Sage/Healer progression.
  13. Well that's actually good news for me as I have a Razer mouse with a ton of buttons everywhere, so I can bind them to certain commands.
