If the usage of sports implied group combat, I see your point. However, again, the mentality of fundamentally changing the genre when one already exists for said demographic very much applies. That's the point of the analogy. "Hey, I love golfing. So, why not make football more like golf?!" "Because that's what golf is for..."

In fairness, a lot of the elements that made EQ a good community do not exist nowdays in your typical MMO. What you're saying is true but I believe it's becoming far more common because of the poor state of community that exists now. Just my opinion.

GTN, Mailboxes, LFG tool with instant-port (you know those asking for it will eventually get it...) etc. At some point there will be no reason to leave the ship. That sounds awesome. Not really. Stormwind/Orgrimaar in space.

Because WoW invited the lowest common denominator to the genre and gave them the ability to successfully find groups via LFG tool. That demographic has now infiltrated every new MMO, dooming it from the start. Sarcasm or truth? That's up for you to decide.
