  1. No you can't. You can't tell how well someone is doing unless you... get this... look at how well they're doing. You may think you know, you may even have enough anecdotal evidence to suggest that he isn't bad, but you absolutely don't know how well he's doing. If you take issue with this statement, tell me HOW you know how they're doing. "the boss died and so this person is fine" and "he seemed to be doing a lot of stuff and his resources were being used at a good rate" aren't ways of knowing how well someone is doing, by the way. You guys DON'T know how well person X is doing. In fact, you're on the forums saying you don't WANT to know how well X, Y or Z are doing.
  2. No it isn't, it's terrible. In fact, it's why I eventually stopped running every single flashpoint on the way to 50. I've already been accused of nonsense that I can't fight because I don't have the proper information to combat it. I've already had terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE damage dealers make fights take as much as 10 minutes. I've already had morons saying that they "totally were attacking X" when it's clear they weren't. Fix it Bioware. This is terrible and making me avoid playing with a large portion of the player base because you couldn't implement the tools that make it possible to stomach the abject stupidity and apathy that is the hallmark of the average player I've met thus far in game. Don't let morons kill your game. Seriously.
  3. You can make an MMO that focuses on finite content, just don't be surprised when people decide they've experienced all they want to experience and go do something else. Your terrible attitude also does nothing to help sell your point. It is not your MMO, it is Bioware's - they realize the importance of end game content or else they would not have made it in the first place. Understand that many different people can be accommodated in an MMO. You can both have a fantastic questing experience AND a wonderful end game experience. In fact, in an MMO like this you pretty much need to have both if you want to be a success for any significant degree of time.
  4. I think there's this impression that people care about what other people are doing in MMOs way more than they actually do. I would say I think many people feel similarly to how I do, but I can't be sure. But what I can say is that I can find other things to do that sate my need for mindless entertainment, so this not being enjoyable won't kill me. I will say it's been a ball of fun so far, and that's good enough for me. If I paid for what is essentially KOTOR 3 with some bonus stories then I'm still happy with my purchase. But for this to succeed as more than that, they're going to have to get together a reason for people to keep playing. They know it as well as we all do, and with comments about how they're already working on future content I am optimistic that they might possibly deliver. But let's not make excuses for Bioware. They don't need them, they're a giant developer with a load of potential and we shouldn't expect subpar elements in their game. I know Bioware is new at this and I'm not alarmed, but I do get worried when people come out and tell everyone to lower their expectations. It's not a good sign.
  5. I skip quests that end up being redundant. There are a few that have the nasty habit of just drawing out a conversation unnecessarily and so I skip it when I have the idea. Otherwise, if it's interesting or related to the main quest I'll definitely listen to it in detail. I'm not skipping through too fast. I have a lot of time to kill on the game, but I still have been seeing my friends and family, working, doing all the things necessary and leveling at a pretty decent rate (35 before the end of EA). If the game sucks after I get to 50 at this rate I probably won't complain. I'll probably just play around with it, determine that it's no fun, and then all of a sudden I won't be posting or playing. Of course, if the rest of the stories are as enjoyable I might stick with it a little more to play through them, and if they fix the end game at that point then perhaps I'll stay around. I'm just not willing to pay for a product that I don't enjoy nor shoulder the blame for not enjoying it.
  6. That won't stop people from being mad as hell when it's implied that Bioware, while having a successful launch, was not perfect in every way. It must be your fault because I'm fine. This is what TOR posters actually believe.
  7. False. In fact, no bad people existed before 2004 when WoW created them and ruined everything. It's no coincidence that economic collapse faces several nations a mere few years after its launch. If Bioware wants to be successful they should do everything opposite of what Blizzard does. This is how you prevent bad people from ruining everything. The forums have taught me well. I know the truth now.
  8. I too get mad enough to make a forum post when someone mispronounces something.
  9. Worst name so far is Cloud'Strife. I mean, he was a nice enough guy but that's a pretty bad name. I think his legacy name was also Strife, which made it somewhat even worse. The best name is mine, Callipygous. My twi'lek indeed has beautifully proportioned buttocks.
  10. I was once like you, but then I took a Taris Bonus Stage to the knee.
  11. Too early to tell, waiting to see how much I enjoy things after the leveling process and how much I enjoy leveling other classes. The SI story and quests are brilliant, but if it's the sort of game where I've experienced the best of it in the first month or two it's possible that I won't keep subbing. I wouldn't go back to anything or even pick up a new MMO. That said if I like what I see in the coming days and they make changes to improve the quality of the game or even explicit promises and statements about those improvements I'll be sold. Otherwise, I'll just enjoy it like it was KOTOR 3 and then quit when I'm done with it or until they add more content that justifies the purchase of more sub time.
  12. This is your contingent of people that think these things ruin the game Bioware. People that believe different raid frames and mouseover automates the game. I mean, it really just speaks for itself. You guys have played these sorts of games - you should know these people are full of "nonsense."
  13. How are people not getting this still? It doesn't matter whether there's auto attack or not. Regardless, you're pressing an ability every 1.5 seconds. It is neither more nor less interesting if there is auto attack or not. It is superfluous. The only way auto attack would change things is potentially changing which stats people value if class A or B has a large portion of their damage coming from auto attack. I mean personally, auto attack just seems unnecessary to me. I wouldn't be turned off if it was there, I just simply wouldn't care. So long as I have a comfy amount of things to do and think about I'm happy. Whether this happens or not is independent of if the game includes auto attack.
  14. Right when you explain what this has to do with "hard." Sometimes I think there's a certain segment of the MMO market that wishes all MMOs would go back to something like EQ. Because it has nothing to do with making the game hard. It's all about making the game inconvenient, because so many are capable of overcoming inconvenience but are not capable of overcoming what is hard. It would be funny if it wasn't so frightening. In this case it's just amusing, but when it comes to some other things it is less so.
  15. Considering that would mean that the game would be down for the duration of launch and it's followed by "12AM EST on 12/20" I think it's a pretty damn safe bet that's a typo.
  16. The game lacks features that they want and recognize as necessary for the game. They need to get them into the game in a timely manner before people decide to play a different game. How they do this is of no consequence, but addons are generally the quickest route and are perfectly fine if the developer is capable of creating and maintaining a good API and designing good content. People who think a product can survive against its competition in a meaningful capacity without adopting the convenience features and improved UIs that are used in other games (however they do that) are delusional. People who think this game will never have mouseover targeting, parsed combat logs, more customizable frames, what have you are about to be disappointed (again, because they come around for every MMO's launch) when they come around. Bioware knows what these things do, and they're going to add them regardless of what uninformed people say.
  17. It's pretty great when you're leveling as a healer, as it turns out.
  18. 1) Just be honest, let people know and say that you're sorry you can't stay. Nothing fancy. A "sorry" goes a long way. 2) If you don't have time unless everything goes absolutely perfectly then you don't have time. You could let them know up front if they're willing to deal with it, but it might not turn out well.
