  1. Khruel Sort of an homage to a couple of characters in various novels/movies, including Cruella de Vil and an assassin character in another novel I can't recall off-hand. Also sounds like "cruel" which is what my Sith Marauder is. My Marauder's first name is Zi'ynn (pronounced Zin), which sounds like Sin, so Sin Cruel, or more appropriately, Cruel Sin. Kind of fun when I made my Republic character Jedi, which is pure Light Side, and named Astrielle Khruel (Cruel Star) .
  2. "Tell it to someone who gives a d**n!" - Sith Warrior, Belsavis Daily
  3. Love this post! I have a 4-year old, who I indoctrinated early in the SW lore. He sits in my lap on a weekly basis, hitting 1, 2, 2, 3, 4 to kill the "dinosaurs" on Dromund Kaas (even though I'm level 50 =P). Best night ever, I was fighting in a WZ, and he was sitting in my lap at the time, wanting to "play Star Wars." So I made the moves (WASD), and he hit the hotkeys. Long story short, he killed an enemy player in a WZ 1v1, and got so excited he bounced himself off my lap and under the desk. The player b*****d about the kill, but I didn't have the heart to tell him he was beaten by a 4-year old. Good form, OP! And a cutie little gal! Let's hope she turns into a regular SW nut like the rest of us!
  4. To the OP, I don't see any issues with an imbalance regarding Huttball and certain classes. Most of the abilities you discuss are on timers, and it's very difficult to get into a position after initial contact in order to allow those abilities to shine. Plus, they are very focused abilities, and are easily countered if a person is situationally aware. I spent the night before last camped out on the ramps to my team's goal-line, denying sorcs and their ilk the ability to utilize those abilities. It takes a lot of concentration and prediction of where the enemy will show up (although in huttball, it's less so, because so damn many of them follow the exact same path to the goal line EVERY SINGLE TIME). As an assassin (and even as a Marauder), I use my abilities defensively, denying certain points when and if possible. If an enemy is on an upper ramp, and he has a friendly near the goal, I make certain I'm in a position to nullify either one of them an opportunity to advance or score. I've seen a lot of classes doing this lately, so the game mechanics are changing on a fundamental level. One or two guys/gals set on the defensive, and all those "advantageous abilities" go out the airlock. My team came back from a 5-0 deficite BECAUSE of the defenders utilizing those week spots, and exploiting their abilities (as well as their enemy's to the fullest advantage). Huttball, in my opinion, is the most BALANCED of all the Warzones, provided you know how to exploit the terrain as well as the enemies weaknesses. It is a lot more strategic than Voidstar, and only marginally so versus Alderaan (although I place those two above Hutball in terms of enjoyability, as well as literally allowing ALL classes to utilize ALL of their abilities to the fullest potiential).
  5. I usually play my Marauder as a skirmisher. I only get the ball in certain circumstances, and instead will follow the ballcarrier or healer to add some extra DPS or distractions. It's not a glorious job, but if I die instead of the healer/ball-carrier, I've done my job. That said, as a Marauder I'd rather play Alderaan than Huttball. I just feel I contribute a lot more in ways that are more noticeable.
  6. I believe the fees are the same, but not 100% certain. Currently, they're pretty empty on most servers, as few people want to travel to Shaddaa to sell one or two items. However, when 1.2 Legacy hits, people will probably invest in the HTN for their ship, making it much more convenient to cross-faction sell. I know I'll definitely be utilizing it, since I stay on my ship about 80% of the time.
  7. Galactic Trade: Same Faction only Hutt Trade (Nar Shaddaa): Cross Faction
  8. I'm dedicated to Carnage, although I've shelved my Marauder for a while. I tried Annihilation, it it just ... didn't feel right. You lack in some things for PvP, perhaps, but I know it well enough to generally keep a high DPS output and escape. Really, the numbers don't matter, so long as you win. It's nice getting the 4 medals, but I'm not going to lose sleep over it so long as my team wins (for the daily missions). I used to be somewhat of a hard-head in other MMO's, trying to take specs that others said were bad, and forcing them to change their minds afterwards. Truth is, there's no bad spec, just bad players. Heck, respec doesn't cost much and resets every week anyway. Sometimes it's just fun to experiment to breathe new life into a toon you've been playing for awhile. Go NUTS! Heh, I'm half-tempted to play around with a completely average and hybrid spec, just for the heck of it. Just have to figure out an easy way to change forms on the fly. Man, that would be a rotational nightmare!
  9. This person speaks truth. I used to be a heavy roleplayer back in "that other glowie stick game." In the beginning it was fun, but after the "2 milestone events" of that game, I left. I returned years later, realized that nothing had changed, but decided to change it for myself. I didn't gear, I didn't raid. I created a story arc from start to finish, and played it out every night in the cantina. RP guilds would sometimes make a point of asking me if I was going to be on the following night, because they enjoyed the story. Some became integral parts of the story. SWTOR may make it a little more difficult, but it's really not totally out of the question, especially once you hit 50. Although I didn't roll on an RP server, I sometimes find myself in RP moments ... like when a level 50 was harrassing some lower level players on Tatooine, and I tried to kill him. When I realized I was fighting a losing battle, I took the opportunity to RP and ask for Parley. What followed was 45 minutes of the most fun I've had in a long time. Even the guy (who wasn't a roleplayer) got into it and said he had a blast.
  10. Definitely a bug, but still a /facepalm blunder (as I had other clues to tell me this): Huttball match. My team was down one point, and I was in scoring position and the ball-carrier was down below. I was jumping up and down frantically, telling him to pass the ball ... ... not realizing I was in stealth, because my toon was visible to me. He passed (that was his blunder). My blunder was my stance, which should have TOLD me I was in stealth. I could have scored and tied the game, and then let the Randomness decide the winner. The worst part about it is the b***hfest that took place afterwards, even after I explained I was bugged and apologized.
  11. Server: Wound in the Force (PvP) In-Game Names: Zi'ynn (Marauder); Ecekau (Assassin) Online: usually between 6pm and 12am CST
  12. Darth Vader was an anti-hero in the same vein as Michael Moorcock's Elric. Yeah, he's bad, and he's a bad-*ss, but he serves his purpose for the story. It's classic Joseph Campbell, The Hero's Journey. Fall from grace, and then redemption. Nothing more, nothing less. He brings balance by realizing his mistakes and correcting them (albeit on a completely CONTRIVED basis in the movies ... GL didn't lead up to that enough, but I can forgive him for the time-frame constraints of the movies back then). If GL was to make those movies from scratch today (despite his inadequacies as a writer), I think he would have come up with a lot better premise and setup for 4-6. 1-3 would have been a lot more interesting (despite the cast and story), if 4-6 had been a lot less campy. Imagine a Star Wars reboot, told in today's world. It would be a lot darker (as it would NEED to be for something of this nature), and a lot more driven by emotion and passion (a Sith's raison d'etre). And it would be much more adult, without so many campy lines (I can't watch the series anymore because everyone is spouting off every five seconds: I have a bad feeling about this.) The Force, IMHO, is nothing more than Nature itself. Both the Jedi and the Sith perverted that natural progression, and Vader was the one to bring it back into balance. Unfortunately, in the EU, Luke recreates the Jedi Order, which will start the cascade to bringing back imbalance. The grey jedi had it right: There is no light or dark side, so to speak: There is only the Force. (GL aside ... though as an author myself, I can perfectly understand him saying "The Light Side is ONLY the Force, and in balance. The dark side is a perversion of that." I don't agree with him on that at all, but it's his universe, and he can do with it what he pleases.")
  13. I've been to that lightsaber site as well. Prices are a bit outrageous even for something simple. 99.9% of what you can buy there, you can do-it-yourself (Jedi style!) for a lot cheaper by going to the local hardware store. A little more time and effort, but would be well worth the experience. Once my son learns the love of SW (he's well on his way .... he loves to play my Inquisitor killing "dinosaurs" on Dromund Kaas), we'll make it a father-son / Sith-Apprentice hobby to make a few hilts "Finally, we will reveal ourselves. Finally, we'll have revenge."
  14. Check this site out on the value of some of the original action figures: http://actionfigures.about.com/od/historyofactionfigures/tp/top_5_starwars.htm *Edit* I knew a guy back in the day when they were first released, that had the original Snaggletooth blue uniform, and the telescoping sabers for Vader. The only one I can claim to fame is the leather jawa one, but the dog ate the leather
  15. I don't do the figures or ships anymore, though I used to. Having a 4-year old makes it difficult to start collecting again I did however recently purchase the following two items (the first I haven't opened yet, due to not having the space in my office to handle it properly, alongside the second one): http://www.amazon.com/Book-Sith-Secrets-Vault-Edition/dp/1612182615/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331424416&sr=8-1 and http://www.amazon.com/The-Jedi-Path-Students-Edition/dp/1603800964/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1331424535&sr=1-1 The latter one is pretty cool. I haven't cracked open the book yet for serious reading, but all the bells and whistles were fun to look at .
  16. LOL ... great video I'd have to say the Marauder/Sentinel is probably one of the hardest to play and understand, as there is no "I WIN" button (well, there's some "Maybe Win" buttons, but anyway ...). ;tldr Version for those of you who won't read below: I'm a mediocre Marauder, but learning, so I feel your pain. And now the ;tl version, for those of you who might actually read it (wrapped in a spoiler so no one else has to suffer )
  17. DAoC was a slideshow as well. You don't remember people falling through the terrain during a relic raid? Ilum != PvP At least not yet, anyway.
  18. I almost responded to this thread with a lengthy post. Then I deleted it. Oh wait, I responded anyway. okay, so major profound statement inserted here: WIP. Does anyone expect ANY game to be perfect 3 months into release? If yes, please delete account and cancel subscription. You're not the player we're looking for. If no <waves fingers mysteriously> you can go about your business. Move along.
  19. No, you don't have to PvP. While the PvP sets have some good armor (and you may want some of them for the looks), the PvE endgame gear also have good stats and looks. I'm just the opposite: I hate PvE, so I'm not doing very many of those (only to break the monotony of the endgame PvP in its current form). I will say the more you do PvP, the more you come to like it, in just about any game. It took me a while before I finally started enjoying it to its fullest. So no worries ... gear up for PvE, and leave the PvP alone. You won't notice any difference.
  20. Wow, Kettemoor! Can't believe I missed this thread! NO one will remember me most likely, but I'm Toby'nyryyhn, originally a Wookie Smuggler/CH/TKA/BH (yeah, I dabbled), and Odohema Ockirpe of the Holohat Ensemble (Master Musician exclusively). Transferred over to Starsider when I resubbed, and had the same toons there (plus a couple of others). RP'd most nights during the last resub in the Theed Cantina, which I think was about a year ago now, possibly a year and a half. On Kettemoor, I was part of the guild <Black Sun>, though I can't recall the guild leader's name off-hand anymore.
  21. Oh, and if you romance Jaessa, and get affection up with Vette:
  22. Belsavis Daily (forget which one, but it's towards the left-hand base near the bottom of the map: One of the Sith Warrior's replies: "Tell it to someone who gives a d**n." I actually used it as an end cap in one of my videos. The Sith Warrior ship flies out of spacedock, and the droid comments: Droid: "I am truly honored to serve such a personage as you, Master. History will remember your name. Not mine, but definitely yours." Me: "Tell it to someone who gives a d**n." I've been combing a LOT of dialogue in game, recording the best lines so that I can do an end-cap scene for all my videos like that
  23. Speeders (and companions) add extra framerate lag while in fleet. The particle effects alone can drop framerates on lower end systems to an obscene rate. I have a strict policy of NOT using either speeder or companion on Fleet, unless I'm in VIP or near my ship's hanger -- the two places where framerate lag will not factor. Fleet SHOULD be a no fly zone. While I won't say it should be a no companion zone, for the obvious downtime/affection instances, do it on your ship, rather than fleet, and everyone will be happy. The ONE thing that would help framerate lag above and beyond not allowing speeders, however, is to INSTANCE the frakkin' thing. If there are 75-100 people in fleet, create a new instance like you do on every other planet. While it's not easier to implement and will require extra coding, it makes the MOST sense. Also, put cargo holds and mailboxes in the VIP areas (which are generally lag-free), and on the other ships in the fleet (which are almost ALWAYS lag-free) ... and make those other ships rest zones as well. There's TONS of ways to distribute the players amongst the fleet, that would improve performance for everyone.
  24. Main bases, like Mos Ila and Anchorhead are both protected by the Exhaustion Zone. The other bases I don't consider "main." Starport camping is fairly interesting, in that the 50s that zone in to get rid of you have to die at least once if you have an overwhelming force before they can mount a decent group. And by then you already know their numbers and strength, so you will always have a surprise advantage against them. I miss DAoC style RvR ... <Player was just killed by Player> spam was the BIGGEST reason to RvR.
