Actually, when the NGE hit, you COULD just change your class for a tidy sum in credits.
If you had a level 90 combat toon, you could just POOF.. change and become any other level 90 combat toon.
If you had a level 90 trader (droids), you could just POOF... change and become a level 90 tailor.
Entertainer was different. You had to actually take the few hours and an automatic macro to level to 90.
So, you would have to manually level to 90 as any combat, level to 90 as a trader (which took about 2 hours tops), then level to 90 as an Entertainer (which took a few hours with an AFK macro), and BAM!!!
You could respec into ANY class in the game at any profession counselor. 25 million credits was the cap, but pretty much anyone worth a damn in that game had far more than a billion credits, so it was no big deal.
The system still wasn't as broken as the skill box system used pre-NGE, but meant that after any patch, the FotM reigned supreme (usually Spies).
