  1. Nope. The patch note refers to something else as the armor textures are still lower detail than they are in cutscenes. I think that patch note refers to the problem people were having with the "Low" settings that the game defaults to when you start it for the first time not actually being true Low settings (neither looking nor performing like them), which was causing performance problems for a lot of people with lower end systems and was fixeable only by raising the settings to higher ones and then changing them back down.
  2. Same here - I'm an altaholic and while I play empire on one server and republic on another and thus have 2 characters to play with (since they unlock seperate legacies and are both my mains on the respective servers), I also can't bear to play any other characters besides those 2 now that I know the legacy system will unlock additional character creation options. Until I know what those are, I don't want to level up any alts I may need to re-roll. Would really like more info!
  3. Just wanted to point out that the only bug I've found with AA is that it doesn't play nice with holograms and lightsabers in cutscenes IF you have bloom turned off. If you don't want to use bloom, then it's best to leave AA alone, but other than that it should work just fine. That said though, I can completely understand that it currently requires tweaking outside of the game and isn't yet implemented into the ingame options, as it is clearly not polished enough yet. It's a slightly different matter with textures that are already ingame and working just fine, except that they're only displaying in cutscenes and are horribly and forcibly scaled down outside of that.
  4. In the long run I would give anything to see hoods on twi'lek and the lekku draped around the front, that seems like the best longterm solution that would make most twi'lek fans insanely happy. However in the short term can we at least PLEASE have our headbands back?!?! I don't see why you have to hide that too when you're already hiding the hoods on the robes. It's not like there currently IS anything they can clip into with the hoods hidden and the ability to disable the display of headgear. In fact if I take my robe off I can see my headband perfectly fine, even when I am wearing (cosmetically hidden) headgear, so I know that's not it! Seems like a redundancy bug to me that stems from the time when the hoods were not disabled yet on twi'lek.
  5. On an off-topic but slightly amusing note, I have played an MMO where they put in a double confirmation on something, because players complained about misclicking on the first confirmation... so they put another one in. And here's the funny bit, even with a double confirmation, some players STILL managed to screw it up and complain about it in the forums. I'd argue at that point it's not a matter of mistake anymore, but rather a complete and utter failure to pay attention to what you're doing. Call me old-fashioned but I'd rather have a game where I have to pay attention instead of one with confirmation boxes popping up at whatever I do. That does not mean I'm against basic things like buyback/sellback features on vendors - I actually like those because they aren't actually an inconvenience to players who don't need them. Confirmation pop-ups on the other hand...
  6. Yep I was stuck in that queue as well and it was much worse than normal for a week night due to the maintenance running so late. This is why I would like to see the maintenance be scheduled to finish earlier, so that if something does go wrong they still have some time outside of the absolute busiest period of the day (for the EU) to fix it. PS: this amusingly reminds me of the MMO that decided to deploy a major patch on friday afternoon, only a few hours before most (if not all) of the dev team was set to go home for the weekend... needless to say, it went horribly wrong.
  7. Just once I'd like to see a game do it the other way around, just so I can see how many of those people telling us to "suck it up" are in fact a bunch of hypocrits.
  8. In games where I have a pet or companion, I usually rebind the functions to order them to 'attack' and 'heel' to hotkeys. So that's what I did in SWTOR. After I got my first companion in beta, I once told her to 'heel' and she neatly stopped attacking and followed me as I ran past the enemies. A while later in combat I suddenly wondered why my companion was just standing there like an idiot and not helping me kill stuff. It was only then that I realized that 'passive' (or 'heel' as I usually call it) is a toggle.
  9. Before buying anything make sure you check what power supply is in the computer, as that's most likely your biggest limitation to what you can fit, in addition to the cooling and space inside the case (and ofcourse check that your motherboard has a PCI-Express 16x slot, though almost all of them do these days). If you're running off a stock 300-350W PSU (which usually aren't too high quality) your best bet without replacing the power supply is a midrange graphics chip like a Radeon 5570 or 5670 (or the 6570 / 6670 which are the 6000 series equivalents), which are the best midrange cards you can run that don't require seperate power connectors from the PSU but instead draw power through the motherboard and should generally be alright to run on most stock PSU's (mind you not all, really awful 250W models are still best off replaced for safety's sake). For anything higher end I would definitely suggest upgrading the PSU, unless you have an exceptionally good PSU for a stock system with integrated graphics. Usually if there isn't even a dedicated card included to begin with the PSU is very bare minimum and anything with some real power requires an upgrade or you run the risk of damaging your system.
  10. Sadly that's not what that patch note means. Before I got my hopes up I figured I'd check the feedback from the PTS where the patch is already deployed and according to those who logged onto the PTS to check, the high textures have not been fixed - it's the same as before. Last post on page 2: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=108599&page=2 I think what they fixed is the client_settings.ini file not showing a lot of the graphics option until you actively start changing them ingame (by default this ini file is almost empty - a lot of the settings are only added when you change the value of them ingame). This issue is probably the cause of the bug where people are getting terrible performance on the default "Low Settings", because the game seems to be displaying different settings than it's actually running. It certainly fits the description of the patch note.
  11. Not exactly sure what you're getting at, because 1000+ queues are exactly what we get when the maintenance ends late like this, because most people are already home or just getting home at that time and they all try to log on at once as soon as the servers come up. Queues don't just happen when the server is already full (aka the point at which it's 1 out, 1 in), they also occur when people are all trying to log on at the same time - the queue is there to gradually ease people into the server so it doesn't crash due too receiving too many requests at once. The more players you have logging on at the same time the longer the queue gets and the longer it takes for everyone to get in. If the servers come up earlier in the afternoon, say around 2pm, then the people that come home early can log in before that time and the logins are more spread out naturally, thus reducing the queue times from the pile-up after 5pm.
  12. I don't know about other countries, but here kids are off from school on wednesday afternoons, and while I know they can't cater to every country's special times and holidays, I would argue that from noon til 5pm is still a semi-important time for some groups of players, much moreso than from 2am til noon. The main problem I have with the choice of downtime though isn't that it conveniences 'afternooners', but rather that it ends way too CLOSE to the peak time of 5-11pm. Only one thing has to go wrong for the downtime to get extended and bleed into the evening hours, which will affect almost everyone. That to me is the main reason why scheduled maintenance should never be set to finish past ~2pm, otherwise there is no margin for error.
  13. Clearly you haven't looked at your character much outside of the cutscenes and character selection screen. A lot of the armor is noticeably blurrier ingame, especially some of the bounty hunter pieces and jedi robes - the worst ones look absolutely awful with extremely low LOD and no bump mapping on them. If you really want to see the difference go to your ship, find the intercom button, angle your camera and character so that you can see both the button and the front side of your character, then press the button a few times and watch your armor switch back and forth between the "Medium" version you see ingame (with low LOD and no bump mapping) and the "High" version we see in cutscenes (with high LOD and proper bump mapping). The worse the armor looks ingame the more noticeable the difference. Also other players (who use bulkier characters than I do) have pointed out that the larger your character's body is the worse the armors look as well due to the stretching of the textures aggrivating the already low LOD. The problem isn't with our graphics cards or driver settings - this is a bug in the game which is preventing us from seeing the same high detail armor graphics we can already see in the cutscenes during regular gameplay. Yes, most of the landscape graphics look fine, aside from the occasionally overly blurry rock texture, but a large selection of the armors DO NOT and there is nothing we can do on our ends to change that.
  14. You can enable it if you want to, through the INI file, at your own risk. One of the problems with the current AA is that it botches up the displaying of holograms and lightsabers in the cutscenes if you have AA enabled and Bloom disabled. To add it to the general options they would have to make it so that AA cannot be turned ON unless Bloom is also set to ON, as otherwise we'd have tons of people crying in the forums about missing holograms. And if they did add it so that AA can only be enabled with Bloom, then we'd have dozens of people crying in the forums why they can't enable AA without Bloom turned on and yammer on about that stupid restriction. You really can never win as a game company, because as per Murphy's laws "there's no pleasing everyone all the time, there will always be someone who doesn't like it". Just my 2xAA cents.
  15. What 650W PSU, is the question... There's a huge difference in quality between the various brands and models you can buy on newegg (and anywhere else as well actually) and sadly the vast majority of the ones on sale are cheap crap. A high quality 650W PSU will power you through 3 PC upgrades singing and laughing all the way, while a poor one can end up being no end of trouble ranging from spontaneous computer shutdowns to setting your house on fire (ok i'm slightly exagerating here, but some of the worst ones can actually burn out and damage the other parts in your PC permanently).
  16. Make sure to invest in a good quality PSU, I can't stress how important that is. Your entire system's stability and lifespan depends on it, so don't cheap out here. Also slap a cheap but decent aftermarket cooler like the Coolermaster Hyper 212 on your i5 2500k so you can overclock that baby when you want to. If you can build a computer, you can also overclock a sandy bridge processor, it's dead simple and these chips are practically begging for it. While you can install an aftermarket cooler it's a lot of hassle to swap coolers as you need to take almost the entire thing apart - so I always suggest fitting one in from the start. Even if you never end up overclocking it'll still keep your CPU cooler than the stock intel fan and that will help keep your case temps down as well. Finally invest in a case with good ventilation and make sure it has good airflow and is aided by the right fans in the right locations (3x 120mm fans at the top, front and back is a popular configuration). edit: I forgot about the motherboard, but indeed as pointed out by the poster above me, don't skimp on the motherboard by going too cheap, but unless you really need the features of the vastly more expensive motherboards you don't have to overdo it and get a $200+ one either unless you're a real enthusiast and it does something specific that you want.
  17. The game easily maxes out most high end dual cores (intel 3.0ghz+), so ofcourse it would max out anything weaker. That means the game is utilizing as much of your CPU as it can to produce the highest FPS that it can. What it also means is that unless you have a really mediocre or low end graphics card, your performance is probably CPU-limited most of the time, and not as dependant on your graphics card (hence why you'll see less or even zero FPS gain from lowering the graphics settings). In other words you may as well run the highest graphics settings you can manage (without further dropping the fps), since lowering them isn't going to raise the fps in most cases. As for why the game uses up so much CPU? Two things: hero engine + MMO. The engine is more multi-threaded and more capable of high CPU useage than a lot of other engines, but at the same time it also has a higher baseline CPU useage and that means you need a beefier CPU to keep up with a higher end graphics card. This effect gets exagerated when there are lots of other players around as that raises the CPU useage even further and when the CPU can't acommodate that (if it's already maxed out all the time) that's called a CPU bottleneck. With a weaker graphics card you won't notice a CPU bottleneck as much, since the graphics card is already giving you poor performance, but if you combine a higher end graphics card with a weaker / older CPU you'll start to run into bottlenecking in games like TOR, which just make much better use of modern CPU's than older games with engines that were designed for single-core systems (like WoW).
  18. Your mid-range dual core is likely holding back your FPS regardless of your graphics settings. One thing to try first though is turn all the settings up to high, hit apply, and then turn them back down to low. There are some problems with the default settings being heavier than they should be and this should clear any remants of that. If your FPS is still mediocre that's almost certainly because you're CPU-bound and not GPU-bound - you can check this by looking at your CPU useage (should be close to or at 100% on your CPU) and your GPU useage with a tool like MSI afterburner, EVGA precision, etc. If you're CPU bound your GPU useage will be getting nowhere near full, it'll probably be quite low depending on how badly your CPU is bottlenecking you. Also when you raise the graphics settings or resolution the fps may stay the same because the CPU can't keep up with the GPU, however you should still see the GPU useage increase as you raise some of the more heavy graphical settings. If you're CPU-bound anyway you may as well raise the graphics settings to take as much advantage of your GPU as possible, even if it won't improve your FPS, it will at least make the game looks less terrible. As for the harddrive churning, that's most likely because of your lack of memory. TOR loves lots of juicy RAM and 2gb is rather low for this game's needs. So since it doesn't have enough RAM to work with it'll be using the pagefile on your harddrive a lot and that's what causes the constant harddrive activity.
  19. No way to pause unfortunately, but you can set up the chat window to show conversation lines by r-clicking on the tab and going to chat settings, then enabling the Conversation option. You can also create a new tab specifically for conversation lines if you don't want it cluttering up your other chat tabs.
  20. I'm greatly enjoying the game and I intend to be here for the long haul. I know TOR's not perfect, no game ever is, but I've been around the block enough times now to know that a game this size needs time to sort out all the issues and throwing a fuss isn't going to make it go any faster.
  21. Ditto - would love to have that as an outfit. Make it so, Bioware, make it so! PS: I don't know if it's an existing armor skin available to players already. If it is then disregard the above.
  22. I'm Sith Warrior as well and I'm at 27/30 like you, however while I also miss Dashade and Scholar, the third one I'm missing isn't a Lore entry, but the Sith Academy. So you should be able to get that last Lore entry on SW, unless one of them bugged out for you and didn't unlock when it should have. I don't think I can get any more on Korriban now, since Sith Academy seems to be unobtainable if you reach the temple at higher level (got the same problem on my Inquisitor), the Scholar title is either bugged or removed, and the Dashade I haven't been able to find any entry on how it can be obtained by non-Inquisitors...
  23. You've got a rather old graphics card, which was very good at the time but is so old now that it's below the minimum requirements of many new games, including TOR. TOR requires a 7800 or better, and yours is 1 generation older and weaker than that card. And your Pentium D processor, while it IS a dual core, is one of those early dual core chips which didn't provide very good performance yet. Most Pentium D chips are only able to manage about 50% the performance that a (proper) core2duo chip with the same clockspeed is able to achieve. The reason I make that comparison is because the game's minimum requirements are based off a 2ghz core2duo chip, which are far more powerful clock-for-clock than your old Pentium D, so despite the clockspeed being higher on your Pentium D in terms of raw processing power you're below the minimum requirements. Also your 1gb of memory is below the minimum requirements as well - you really ought to have at least 2gb for running games these days. In summary your problem is that you computer is just really dated. My advice would be to skip upgrades completely and look at buying/building a new one from scratch, as there isn't a lot you can salvage off this one that would not hold a new machine back, if it would even fit.
  24. You''re running a single-core processor and a really old integrated graphics card which are both far under the minimum requirements for TOR. That''s why your game is running so poorly. You need to upgrade both to really get better results. Just adding a dedicated graphics card will help, but it''ll most likely still be severely held back by your low speed single core CPU so you might not notice that much improvement from just that upgrade.
  25. Haven't lost any mail to alts yet either, however I heard about this problem before, so I'm being cautious. Each time before I send anything important across I send a mail with just 1 credit attached and then check to see if it arrives. If for some reason it doesn't turn up I don't send the important items either.
