  1. I just signed up for Eve last night and am trying to figure out what I'm doing. Love sandbox games! I'll resubscribe to SWTOR if they ever get around to making it more sandbox and severely revamp the crafting/economy system.
  2. Ah, grinding alchemy in Everquest... such fond memories.
  3. Nooo. I hate F2P MMOs. They're not really F2P and then it comes down to who is willing to spend the most $$. But I also hate single player games that charge a monthly fee (see SWTOR).
  4. Unfortunately the word on the street is that EQ Next is going the ez-mode, simplified MMO route. Possibly even connected to facebook. Not even kidding.
  5. I really don't like WoW. Not my type of MMO at all. Which is probably why I've already grown weary of SWTOR and cancelled. But WoW is still king because everybody else tries to copy it and siphon off some of its playerbase instead of doing something new. WoW was innovative because it was really easy and very solo-oriented, which was unlike anything else on the market at the time. It captured the casual market and took off from there. Now games like SWTOR essentially copy and paste WoW, throw on a Star Wars cover, and expect it to be wildly successful. EA knew what it was doing combining Bioware, Starwars and MMO. It knew this game would sell like hotcakes even if it was junk. But there's no way a carbon copy of WoW is ever going to dethrone WoW regardless of the setting.
  6. When it comes to Bioware/EA spending on this game: 1) Voice acting 2) Marketing 3) Writing 4) Game design
  7. The market sets itself. Sometimes people will sell items with outlying prices because they don't know the value. If you think it's too low, buy them up and sell them at what you feel is a reasonable price. Otherwise, stop complaining about what people set their prices at.
  8. 8 hours of maintenance every Monday or Tuesday night is ridiculous. It's one of the contributing factors to my unsubscribing as midnight PST is my prime play time after the fiancee has gone to bed. Can't believe that in this day and age they need to run a full 8 hours of maintenance once a week. Figure out how to patch servers while they're still up and do maintenance while the server is online. There are quite a few MMOs out there that have no more than an hour or two of downtime a week.
  9. Not only did it not deliver on the hype, but it sort of killed the Bioware name for me. After Dragon Age 2 and now this, I have lost my respect for this studio.
  10. That's the problem with EA games. They become so bloated with bureaucracy that any changes have to go through about 38 approval processes. Not to mention, Bioware/EA have exhibited perhaps the worst customer service of any MMO I can ever remember. I am not sure what all those devs are doing now, but I have to wonder if they let a bunch go after launch??
  11. /1 50 warrior LFG.. That oughta get some fun responses..
  12. I thought that was how it worked.. but my cancelled account ran out yesterday and I'm still able to read and post here.
  13. If you think that AoC, DDO, LotrO and DCUo are examples of themepark MMOs that "are doing really well", how in the world can you say with even a remotely straight face that SWG "failed miserably?" It lasted many years.. it made SOE a good chunk of change, and would've made them much more if they hadn't ruined the game. SWG was way more successful than any of those games.
  14. I am. I want developers to take note that creating a themepark WoW clone with almost no innovation isn't going to make you any $$. Time for devs to get more creative and try something new. And we need more sandbox games.
  15. It's not a lot of $$, but neither is a lunch at McDonald's.. and why pay for something I'm not going to enjoy? It's amazing how many people are out here justifying continuing to subscribe because it's not a lot of $$. I need to start my own craptastic game and just look for subscribers like you who are happy to throw the $15/month at my game just because it's not a lot of $$.
  16. LOL at the implication that people left UO for EQ because UO was a sandbox game and EQ was more themepark, completely ignoring that it had almost everything to do with graphical style. If UO had gone 3D first-person perspective like EQ instead of the top down look, UO would probably still be going strong. Here's hoping UO 2 comes out some day (or at least a virtual successor).
  17. It sucks when you're a class with one ability that allows you to break stun.. and then end up perma-chain-stunned until you die whenever you catch the ball. You can't throw the ball when you're stunned. Now if only I was a sorc...
  18. Juggs > Marauders.. Marauders and whatever their Repub equivalent are don't scare me at all.
  19. The voice acting is pointless in an MMO. It's a waste of time and $$. It's great for pulling people in to play the game for a month or two, but after that nobody cares. Everybody space bars through everything now.
  20. If his opinion doesn't matter, why respond to it?
  21. Sandbox! Sandbox! I'm fine with there being some themepark elements, but the game should primarily be sandbox. You can't even make it too much themepark during the levelling up stage or you won't develop the relationships and community that make up the best part of a sandbox. As we saw in SWTOR, when a game allows you to play through a single player story to max level, most players are going to just whip through it.
  22. Ah, yet another Bioware "long term plan." No thanks. I'll come back if and when they ever live up to their claims, which would be a nice change.
