  1. I have experimented with several video cards I have at the house. I used a slow card ( geforce gt 520 1 gig) then I used a much faster card (ati radeon hd 4770 512 mb) and my low fps didnt not change on the same machine in fleet. Now outside of fleet out in leveling areas I got much high fps with the 4770 than the 520. maybe thiis post will help some people from wasting their money.

It's possible you're bottlenecked somewhere else aside from the video card. Perhaps not enough ram or the cpu is getting old?

  2. I think Bioware is testing the waters here. Adding more complex gear itemization is a fairly simply thing to do. When you beta test you essentially are looking for game bugs. Now that it's released we can give feedback on things other than just bugs.

I'd be willing to bet we'll see heavy changes within the next few months. Honestly things such as rated warzones could come as soon as March, new gear itemizations and a host of other ideas come in a patch.

  3. I can't believe people still make posts like this.

Lineage 2 does not and has never had 50 million subscribers. In fact it's never even hit 5 million worldwide.

Lineage 2 peak at 19 million worldwide. (Above)

Largets MMO ever. Has 10 times the sub numbers of WoW. Let me repeat has 10 times the sub numbers of WoW:

    http://digitrends.proferochina.com/index.php/tag/farmville/

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Happy_Farm

They get around 23 million users DAILY!!

Just thought I'd clear some things up. Continue discussion.

  4. . I am limited to 10m unless I pop a CD. .

Sith Inquisitors also have 10 meters on their spells. Once they reach level 10 they can choose sorceror where their range increases to 30 meters.

Not sure if you made it that far but it can change.

  5. Your the dwarf hunter on the wow forums who bashes swtor every second you get a chance too

    Nice! >.<

He's also the person who got banned from MMO Champion as well. He started so much stuff there they banned him. The person lies so much he can't keep them all in line.

With the way the devs have been calling liars out I wouldn't be surprised if he is up next on their chopping block.

  6. ^^ this ^^

sums it all up, and is exactly the main reason I'm cancelling.

It's fine if you are not doing well in this game but do you know what the OP was trying to say? The OPs post suggested that as players become better at a certain aspect of the game it becomes more enjoyable.

You agreed then followed up with 'I'm cancelling'. Are you stating that you don't care to put in effort and become better at certain aspects of this game therefore making it more enjoyable?

  7. SWTOR and Rift don't really have enough Pros to be compared to World of Warcraft

RIFT is actually a pretty well designed game now. It's incredibly polished now and with Patch 1.6 out it's light years what it was. Honestly I believe you're just a WoW fanboy who lurks these forums. Get your head outa your *you know what*.

To answer the OPs question (My opinion, in a nutshell. There can be plenty more but I'll give the first three that pop up on my head):

    Pros of WoW:

    1. Arthas saga.

    2. Oustanding game engine performance.

    3. Hugely customzible UI

    Cons of WoW:

    1. LFD/LFR / Abysmal community

    2. Raid or die mentality

    3. Imbalance on pvp

    Pros of RIFT:

    1. Very customizable talent trees.

    2. Outdoor RIFT events

    3. Different instances besides the usual trash/boss dungeons

    Cons of RIFT:

    1. No third party mods

    2. Worthless rep grinds at lower levels.

    3. Underwhelming crafting

    Pros of SWTOR:

    1. Oustanding questing system.

    2. Removed the annoyance of crafting. Companions take care of the tedious stuff.

    3. Personal space cruiser and space combat.

    Cons of SWTOR:

    1. Laggy gameplay, choppy animations.

    2. Uncustomizable UI, not the prettiest either

    3. Not much offered as far as PvP and Late game flashpoints.

All three games have developers working constantly to improve their games. Both RIFT and WoW have a huge headstart and have shown. If you played either WoW or RIFT the first thing you'd notice is how smooth the game runs. WoW is currently on patch 4.3, not sure how many patches have been released but it's been in the neighbor twenty major patches and countless minor patches. It's as polished as can be atm.

RIFT had a great start then fell fairly hard. You have to hand it to the developers though, they didn't quit or give up. Kept trying to improve, improve and improve. Patch 1.6, as I mentioned before is light years what the game was before.

SWTOR is the new kid on the block. It's very rough around the edges but they have a fairly good core to work with. They've so far released since December eleven minor patches. Also constantly releasing blogs of their future plans is good too. Right now though they have a few major issues that need to be taken care of immediately. It's up to the developers to decide if this will be a success or not.

  8. yes as they say player numbers is MMO COD MOW RED ORCH ....NO ITS NOT )

Your last few posts are a bit difficult to follow. Not sure what you're trying to get at.

In your opinion what constitutes an MMO? Also what was your highest level character?

  9. Prompting Questions

    1. How long does an MMO have before it can be properly evaluated and labeled as good?

    2. What are the primary things (say 5, or more if you are spirited) that make an MMO good?

    3. What is an example of a good MMO, and why?

    4. Compare and contrast a good MMO and a bad MMO.

    Bonus Question

    - How are the bulk of MMOs retaining their sub base?

I don't really expect all of these questions to be answered, but in answering them I ask you to just just stick to questions.

I am newer'ish to MMOs and I want to see what people base their standards off of.

    That is all---

    Thanks!

Professor notes: Good may also be synonymous with fun.

These points are from a Western culture point of view:

    1.

-Reading a few blogs from MMO developers. A few have said that within the first few seconds it very crucial to the gaming experience. If your players just aren't 'feeling it' forget it they and many others are long gone. As far as how long, well as soon as it's released it's fair game. Bugs are expected but it's up to the dev team to clean em up in a timely manner.

    2.

-First is graphics engine. HAS HAS HAS to have a fluid, clean and good looking graphics engine. Choppy animations are a no go. Doesn't have to be the worlds best looking but has to be good looking and perform well.

-Second is UI, think of the UI as an operating system. It's the liaison between you and the game core. It's SOOOO important yet many of MMO developers treat this last. Has to be easy to see, cool looking and customizable. The UI can make you feel connected to your toon or feel like a mass confusion. The UI is how you specifically communicate with the game.

-Third is comfortablility/usability. What I mean by this is players have to get comfortable with your mmo fairly early on. Can't have the craziest of crazy crafting right at level 1. This just creates overload and many will leave. If you have confusing quests, really off the wall stats and awkward combat most likely many will leave.

-Fourth would be story. Story keeps a person reading a book, watch a movie or play an MMO. Before WoW you had WC, WC2 and WC3. So much lore and story even before WoW was released. Story was there and many were able to easily follow it. If the story is bland such as what you see in Cataclysm, then you'll feel bored or not feel as if there's immediate danger. *Oh boy an angry dragon killing people.*. Like we haven't seen that one coming.

-Fifth would be world. This is where gamers will do and see everything listed above. The land can tell a story fairly well just be how it's made. If you enter an area with skeletons laying on a desert, swords all over the place, banners and a few broken machines it gives you the jibbies and you think about what happened in this area in the past. You start to explore and feel like you're uncovering a hidden secret. World also has to be large where you will meet many others such as yourself. If everyone is sweatboxed into one area you start to feel cramped. Even if a game is incredibly large, having 20 tiny zones will always seem smaller than having one medium sized zone.

-*Bonus* Things such as Balance, Level grind and End game. These I didn't include because they can always and repeatedly be added and adjusted into the game. The level grind is important though because if it's too fast people get to end and get bored if it's to slow then they'll leave cause noone wants to waste months only to be level 20. Fine tuning this is vital.

    3.

-There are quite a number of good MMOs out there. Yes we all bash on WoW but at TBC it was an amazing game. Over time they picked and chose who they'd cater to. Instead of just developing and staying out of the gamers business.

-Aion isn't that bad either. It has a VERY VERY heavy grind for exp but the zones are beautiful, combat is pretty fun and the world is very large. Story is a bit hard to follow and the world, while being very nice was a tad bit difficult to follow where you were and where you needed to go.

-Jury is still out on SWTOR. So far I'm enjoying it but it's really lacking many things.

-Rift is actually a pretty damn good game now. They've really worked hard, although many are ignoring it they're doing very well, fixed tons of issues and added much in content.

    4.

-Compare good and bad alright. (Sorry I didn't use SWTOR) (>.<)

-We'll use everyones favorite WoW vs. Lineage 2. I'll describe it using my points above:

    -Graphics:

-WoW has a cartoony style but that's what they're going for. Lineage 2 has the far east Asian artistic design. Both look well and fall under personal preference but where L2 fails and WoW delivers is in how the engine behaves. WoWs is so smooth it's like butter. L2 it's like dicing onions.

    -UI:

-WoW has a fully and I mean fully customizable UI. L2 has if I remember correctly 2 bars which couldn't be moved. L2s UI was lifeless and looked as if they spent about 2 seconds creating it. Also with a bit of customization you can get WoWs UI perfect for how you want.

    -Comfortability/Usability:

-Getting comfortable with your character or the game in L2 was a nightmare. Had it not been for my guild I'd quit long before I did. So much in the game and I had no way of finding out. WoW is so simple you can train monkeys to understand how to play. Once you get comfortable with a game it starts to feel natural to play. L2 was so foreign for such a long time. Also L2 was a point and click game, it's like playing with your feet.

    -Story:

-L2 didn't have a story. Let me rephrase L2 didn't have a STORY! You leveled by picked an area and just mindlessly killed the same mobs over and over and over and over again. I never did a single quest. WoW has the entire Arthas saga...nuff said.

    -World:

-WoWs world offered so much exploration, beautiful areas and so much hidden lore in the world. TBC is still my favorite zone. Just had a mysterious power to the zones. They were large and very detailed. L2 had a like an upside down 'Z' shape to their map. One straight walk to one end or another. No real monuments, just hills, or sand, or grass ... endlessly.

As you can see Lineage 2 failed on fundamental levels whereas WoW excelled. Any bugs WoW has or had was completely overlooked because the actual foundation of the game was solid. Strange thing L2 did so well in Asia. Any crazy long grind game they enjoy and honestly I have NOOO idea why. I played once for 4 hours straight leveling in a zone and only got 13% exp. After that I said screw this!

    *BONUS QUESTIONS*

-How are MMOs retaining their subs?

-It all depends. The majority of MMOs are free to play with a real money market for in game items. Some charge gamers to play. The large market MMOs: WoW, SWTOR, RIFT, AION advertise on different sites to attract others. Usually to keep subscribers subbing they add expansion to their games which usually change the structure or add really cool and neat things to the game to keep it fresh.

Hopefully this gives you my take on MMOs. I've played Lineage 2, DaoC, Aion, Rift, WoW, Rose Online, Warhammer Online, SWTOR, Guild Wars and Tabula Rasa. I didn't include questing mechanics or pvp combat because that isn't part of the actual foundation of an MMO. You can easily change how pvp combat is going to behave or change how you quest and PvE. WoW has done fairly well and they're questing was just *right-click, accept, right-click accept*. It was because at it's core it was outstanding.

SWTOR has many things going for it but also many things tugging against it. For one the worlds seem small. There may be many zones to explore but the perception is it's not very explorable. Second I'm not a fan of the graphics engine they used, it hasn't been performing as well as it should. I believe it's the same graphics engine used for the John Madden football games. (Don't quote me on that, I could be wrong) The animations are choppy and combat is still a bit on the unresponsive side. Time will tell how Bioware handles things though. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Anyway if you read this thanks for reading my rant. Thought I'd just give your question some thought.

  10. You know what's funny? All this talk about the subscribers and box sales, WoW vs. SWTOR blah blah.

Slipping through the shadows look what the Nintendo Wii sold:

    Just Dance: 6.2 mil

Mario and Sonic at London: 2.2 mil

    Mario Kart Wii: 31.2 mil

    Skyward Sword: 2.6 mil

New Super Mario Bros: 24 mil

    Wii Sports Resort: 30.5 mil

    Wii Sports: 80 mil!!

    Zumba Fitness: 4 mil

    Wii Party: 7 mil

    DAYUUUMMM!!!

  11. Did the guy miss that I played RTS and FPS at tournaments? I am not saying that I don't like the style of combat in this game, I'm saying it isn't consistent or reliable. YouTube: professional WC3 replays. YouTube: Professional CS:S tournament footage. Watch any super popular WoW PvP video. You'll notice a trend, you know, the fact that all of those games have reliable, responsive ways to interact with the players around you. There is no way to know that my character is going to dodge three times in a row and I won't be able to cast until that is complete. There is no way to know that even though my exact keystrokes were: Tab, 4 I will still leap to the target I had before I pressed tab. What about that takes getting used to, unless you're just getting used to it being broken?

    --

I keep having these conversations with people and they all keep saying, "well go play WoW then." I am going to go play WoW again. In fact, I am going to go play WoW again with 10 million of my friends. The only reason I can even interact with you is the month I got for buying the game. Why not spend that time helping other people not make the mistake I made in investing time in this terribly coded single-player fiasco? Keep bringing up the 1 to 1.5 million subscribers this game has. Keep putting this game right there in the same category as Rift, Aion and EVE online, you know.. where it belongs.

You really don't recognize the PvP/combat system in this game as being absolutely terrible. It isn't even like we're being too harsh. The combat in this game is just terribly coded. The game has major balance issues otherwise but there aren't a whole lot of extended threads about how certain things are too powerful because people like the ones propagating this thread are smart enough to know a game will have problems like that on release.

It is upsetting that the game was sold to me in this condition. It just doesn't work. Your character doesn't do what you tell it to do which I feel like is an implied feature.

No you will NOT play with 10 million people. More like 3 million in the U.S and Europe:

    http://www.warcraftrealms.com/realmstats.php

You know who else has around 3 million local to their country subs?:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aion:_The_Tower_of_Eternity

But yes the pvp and especially arena is where it's at. That's where the real pros go:

    http://wow.joystiq.com/2009/11/13/blizzard-arenas-were-a-mistake/

I agree and I would also like to point out that everyone and their family is heading over to WoW:

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/243465/world_of_warcraft_loses_2_million_subscribers_in_a_year.html

You said you play at tournaments? That's actually really cool, WoW is a very hard game to be successful at arena:

    http://www.arenajunkies.com/topic/216561-is-wow-dead/

    http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3811293513#1

If you've been to tournaments then you've played at MLG. When is the next 3v3 MLG coming? I'd like to watch. It's nice to watch a fun and balanced pvp match:

    http://www.mmo-champion.com/threads/870544-Esports-drops-WoW-because-pvp-is-that-bad/page10

You are right this game will go F2P soon enough and we should all pack up and leave:

    http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/28/world-of-warcraft-goes-free-to-play-until-characters-hit-level-2/

Cause I remember when WoW was launched it was mint, seriously best launch ever:

    http://vnboards.ign.com/WoW_General_Board/b19789/79336783/?70

    http://www.darthhater.com/devtracker/topic/34084-apparrently-no-one-remembers-wows-launch

And also WoW with patch 4.3 has seven years of polish, they're game is perfect and never experienced this ability lag:

    http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/3657277384

Honestly though who cares that SWTOR had over a million sales this past month. WoW completely smashed it remember?:

    http://www.gamershell.com/companies/blizzard_entertainment/188228.html

You said you are leaving. Please do so, keep us informed on how your gaming experience is. You can always make another MTV style music video of you doing BGs with an awesome soundtrack! I hope one day I can be the bazillion people who play WoW. :(

It's where all the cool (blind) people go nowadays.

    /wave

  12. Arenas wasnt a joke at its peak, its competetive game and it paid good to the pro gamers. Aside from some class balance issues its most stable and challenging PvP ever seen in mmorpgs. You can see 2 full threads that got to limit with 5 starts rating and 3rd going for it about how **** character response and global lack is causeing action dleay. There cant be any serious pvpe or pvp when your character doesnt do what your trying. We saw with GCD hack that even 0.1 secs is gamebeaking difference when using abilities. And in this game action delay is 0.5-2 secs.

At it's peak it was competitive. Now it's a complete utter failure. An absolute joke of a system.

It's filled with MMR bugs, exploiters, wintrading, glad carries for cash, gold carries, ridiculously imbalanced 2s and 5s, not to mention 2s and 5s are worthless.

  14. People just want to rip on the next big thing... the same thing happened in WoW... for years.

Honestly... all these complaint posts do for me is solidify my choice to play and stick with TOR :)

People were ripping WoW a new one when it first came out. Said noone will play that kiddy cartoon game etc etc. Then once WoW caught steam the same who talked complete trash jumped ship in a matter of seconds and praised WoW.

These same people will bash whatever is new. Once the new thing becomes tops they'll do the exact same thing, jump ship and pretend as if they never played that 'old game'. It's just simply following pop culture. No one wants to be the FIRST to the party but if it's a kickin party OH BOY WILL I LEAVE THE PARTY I'M AT NOW AND COME OVER!

No difference here. If WoW loses another million or so and this picks up another million we'll see these negative nancies sing a completely different tune. I guess playing what you personally prefer is a long forgotten art?

  15. Having the same problem with weapons. So far I've been able to find him an ear piece, two implants a motor, parts and an off hand power generator.

He's actually a very good healing companion. Although he likes to punch people in the face. When I set him to healing mode and turned all his heals to auto. The second I take damage he starts healing. I've been able to do some heroics with him. Although he is rather annoying when everytime he heals he says something ugh.
