  1. I've not yet had anyone beg to me personally for Credits. But a week or so ago someone was begging on Balmora, Imperial Side on Lord Adraas for 10 credits to buy back their lightsaber they had sold.
  2. Nope. The talked about it in the weekly Q&A a week or two ago. Its supposedly a feature they want to add but Its not in the next patch.
  3. In the context of SW lore this is probably true and any Emperor that would put forth any of those reforms might not be considered truly Sith. But this is largely due to writers being hamstrung by the necessity to maintain the familiar themes within the SW universe. Having said that, there is really no reason that a ruler calling themselves Sith couldn't modify the Code or Sith Doctrine. Sith doctrine hasn't remained consistent over the history of their kind. After all we've gone from having legion's of Sith, down to the Rule of Two and back again. So its not entirely impossible that Sith dogma evolves or changes over time. It wouldn't be impossible for a Sith somewhere down the line to look at the "current" code as an anachronism and see the benefit to more moderate doctrine. I would agree that if the Sith never changed an Emperor that eschewed violence probably wouldn't last long. But I don't see any reason why that would always have to be the case.
  4. I like to think she survives and goes into exile. I tend to agree with the thought that she has gotten more interesting as the serious as progressed. My guess as to her fate is probably something similar to Ventress. I can see her having a break from the Jedi either because she see's her self slipping to the Dark Side because of Anakin's influence (something that was suggested in the Mortis arc). Or she leaves because of that Mandolorian shes been gushing over.
  5. As I recall the only characters other than letters you can use in your name are apostrophes (') and hyphens (-) not spaces. It also can't end or begin a special character either. There is a space between your given name and surname (not sirname) but you can't put a space inside your surname or given name. So you couldn't wright Haskle Von Walker. But you could have Haskle Von'walker.
  6. Callen from Delta Contingency is expecting to attend the event this evening.

One that was potentially capable of being a serious threat. Its a minor distinction, I know, especially given that the Clones attacked the Jedi without evidence of their betrayal or any indication that the entire order was a threat. I guess I am just feeling the need to play devils advocate.
  8. Loved them. KOTOR got me back into Star Wars after getting sort of ambivalent about the whole thing.
  9. I dunno how I feel about this Episode. It was pretty good and I like the twist with Ventres being an unknown quantity. But something about how Maul was portrayed felt off. I always saw him as more ninja-like. The quiet assassin that sneaks up on you. But here he was sooo, vicious. I guess that is consistent with him being so rage filled. I imagine his future appearances will be a little more clever so I can live with it either way. Not my favorite ending to a season. But all in all not bad.
  10. All you have to do is spend $130 on this: http://www.amazon.com/Razer-Star-Wars%C2%99-Republic%C2%99-Gaming/dp/B00635N6YI
  11. Corso. And I would take just about anyone in his place. but the Bounty Hunter's Jawa Companion seems really cool.
  12. This^^^^ I have seen a couple of these threads from adolescents complaining about their troubles finding a guild or being excepted by older players. I sympathize with the OP to the extent that in a game that has a significant social aspect, being turned away by people can be frustrating. I also hope that he find a guild or at least other players that will accept him. But every time I see one of these threads, they are always about how capable the person is as a player. They never acknowledge the other aspects of their age. Its not just whether your capable of playing a character. Some of us that are older just want to socialize with other people in our peer group. Not only that, but for most of us, we have to censor our selves at work and by the time we get home to get some TOR time in we may want to let off some steam which isn't always age appropriate. Not to belabor the point, but by that time, most of us aren't interested in worrying about the affect that may have on the younger members that may be listening. I'm sure there are guilds out there that skew younger where you would ultimately be more comfortable. Good luck.
  13. Its certainly possible that without Luke the Rebellion could have reached a critical mass where it posed a serious threat to the Empire but that is not taking into account the various convenient plot devices in place to prevent that. I'd agree that if we assumed that real world logic applied, its likely that at some point in the Empire's history it would have succumbed to some sort of external or internal pressure. Either it would have broken up because of internal conflict among its ruling elite or some Rebellion (maybe not THE Rebellion) would have over taken the Empire's forces. But unfortunately, the Emperor is functionally immortal with his ability to transfer his essence into new bodies. Which is all the more significant when you take into account his battle meditation and the massive size of the Imperial military. So he could basically control all of his forces forever which vastly outnumber any fledgling rebellion. Using the logic of SW, I'd have to say if Luke was never involved in the Rebellion it would be really unlikely for the Empire to be defeated or for any uprising to gain enough mass to be a real threat before Palpatine quashed it. I think the more likely threat to the Empire in the absence of Luke would probably not be external, i.e. rebelling planets/populations. Rather, I think its more likely that the Imperial military commanders begin infighting and it fractures that way.
  14. I'm not sure about that because if I recall correctly, the pre-order code expired like in January. Admittedly its been a while since I've seen that card that I got with the code, but I know it had an expiration date on it. It's possible there are some out there that work, but I'm pretty sure the expiration has passed.
  15. The TV show plays a little fast and loose with the Rule of Two, but Ventress is never a true Sith. She is an Acolyte not an Apprentice to Count Dooku meaning she was never going to raise to the level of Sith Lord. Plagueis may have suggested abolishing the Rule of Two, but it wasn't until well after Palpatine that it actually happened. So no, your wrong. The Rule of Two still exists after Plagueis.
  16. I would like to know about Bastila's life after the event's in Revan. I feel like the way it ended didn't do her justice.
  17. I totally agree. Mostly because I have a little pet peve for mixing genre's. So I am all for sticking to the TOR terms. But I will add taunt and instance to the list of acceptable terms since they are generic in the same way aggro and tank are.
  18. Your leaving out size and scope. As you pointed out all of those things are present in every state to some degree. But the extent to which they are present determines "failed" statehood. Again I hate to use real world examples as analogues for a fictional universe that is created totally for the convenience of the audience, but I guess that's where we are at. Whether or not any one or a combination of those factors raise to the level of failed statehood is totally dependent on how deeply its cuts into the governing authority's sovereignty. Lets take the Empire first. I could argue that not all of those points are valid and are totally arbitrary, but I won't because that would be moot. So I'll focus on a few that you have highlighted. The Empire is responsible for Human Rights violations on a massive scale with institutionalized slavery and is under siege from disenfranchised groups (the slaves, Revanites, etc.). And while in real world politics these are extremely significant indicators of a failed state, here they barely register. Its true that the on DK, the planet is experiencing its share of issues from slave revolts, etc. But you can't draw any real conclusions from them since they are all taking place simultaneously only for the sake of story telling. Lets assume though for a second they are all happening at the same time though. By who's standard is the Empire committing sentient rights violations, the Republic's? Republic laws are invalid in the Empire and there is no governing authority over the two to apply a universal set of standards (a galactic UN if you will). The Empire may be battling those groups for one reason of another, but none has posed a serious threat to the seat of government. Yes the slaves may control some small piece of territory (this is an issue of scale which in the game is far from perfect so we can't really know how much territory the slaves control or really how far it is from the capital) but we don't know how long its gone on and even if it has been going on for a while all it takes are the actions of your character to end the revolts. Every government in the world faces charges if illegitimacy from disenfranchised groups and nearly all have even had to deal with violence. The biggest issue on that list for the Empire is probably the conflict between internal political factions (i.e. the Dark Council). But even there, as far as I can see, while they may not fully support the Emperor, the Empire still functions. I can only attribute this to the Council still being concerned with the effective functioning of the civic machine. I admit I have not been deep enough into the story to have all the facts. But I am not so sure that BioWare would have a mission about planetary waste management. I can only glean from that that, while not a sexy as political machinations, the Council spends some time on making sure the Empire functions effectively on a basic level. The Empire and Republic experience significant problems because they are massive in size and scope. With massive states comes massive problems. Maintaining a massive military machine, feeding a population of billions scattered over light years, managing the immense bureaucracy needed oversee all of the imperial worlds all while defending against another galactic superpower that just as large and capable is not going to be smooth. So yes, all of those failed state indicators do exist in the Empire and Republic and yes some look pretty bad. But again, we are only seeing a snap shot of the bigger picture. It's like trying to figure out what a puzzle will look like from a single piece and not having the box as a guide. But more importantly, the large the governing authority, the more significant the problems. But neither the Republic nor the Empire is ever in any serious danger from collapsing from any of them because the flip side of the failed state index is not that they are present but how they affect the ability of the governing body to prosecute the affairs of state. Here they do not in any significant way.
  19. I'm inclined to agree that BioWare does get a lot of little things wrong that I feel like should have been easy to either weed out or just not do. For example, when your trooper story first starts your a Sergeant but they keep referring to you as an officer or that your commanding officer is a Commander and not a Colonel when everyone else uses Army/Marine ranks like lieutenant, captain, and major (I know, I know, different military but it still bugs me). As far as the tactics go, I generally agree in the sense that you seem to get sent on a lot of missions that can only be solved by a "small team." And there never seem to be any other strategies on the table. Yeah, that wears pretty thin but honestly, given the constraints of the game I dunno how else they could deal with that. I mean there are operations that are made up of multiple teams but organizing that for every mission would be a pain in the ***. Some stuff just has to get sacrificed for the sake of telling a good/entertaining story or making a cool cinematic. For the sake of argument though, using your example, lets say those troopers stayed on that ridge while all those Sith charged them. When those acolytes, apprentices, and lords managed to get behind the troopers it seems to me like the would be at a major disadvantage in a confined area like that. Spreading out could give them more room. But then I guess the lines would get all jumbled up and your fighting the enemy from all directions instead of just in front of you. Just a thought is all.
  20. ^^^ This. Conflicts manufactured for the convenience of story telling can hardly be viewed in any serious way to accurately parallel real life. This is also a hallmark of BioWare. To be clear, this isn't a knock on them because I love what they do. But, for the sake of telling a story, they are very good at getting just enough realism in a story to make it relateable then throw all kinds of crazy curves at you. Which is why the capitals of the Republic and Empire are mired in revolts, espionage, proxy wars, corruption, and are even on the brink of destruction. Those things can make for interesting stories and in some cases mirror real world events. But if you're looking for something that closely resembles real geopolitics or domestic governance, you will not find it here. The story has to first and foremost drive the actions of your characters. This game wouldn't be all that interesting otherwise since the quests would be, "get the morning paper," "whats for dinner tonight," "who am I going to vote for." Looking at it another way, are the Republic and Empire "failed states (for lack of a better term)?" No, not even close. First off, yes using there are a lot of conflicts occurring on both planets and the ability of the Republic or the Empire to deal with those is an indicator of their effectiveness as governing bodies. However, we are never told how long these conflicts lasted. In most cases, your character's actions results in the end of the fighting or prevents the attack. So just because the salve revolt or the gang war is going in every time you log in, lore wise its been brought to an end. Suggesting the Republic/Empire isn't as impotent as you make them to be. The point is that contextually, in the game you only see a small part of either faction both in time and relative to their territory a a whole. What every story you are playing, it is focused on that crisis and that one only. You see the Republic/Empire though a very narrow lens. That is far from enough to make any kind of accurate judgement about the nature of either government.
  21. Sigh........... No. First off, the JK finds out how old T7 is and, Spolier, he isn't nearly old enough. Second, which is mentioned numerous places on the boards,
  22. We are rolling. Two teams running on Lord Adraas on the Republic and Imperial side. A third Republic team is getting geared up to start on The Crucible Pits. A fourth team is looking for two more members for a role playing group on Sunday evenings/nights. http://swtorgroups.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=10&page=1#144. If you posted and are still looking to join a leveling team there is still availability. If you'd like to try it out the website is also linked in this thread.

    Era

The Troopers in TOR are not clones. The Republic has fallen and been constituted more than once before the movies. Meaning that the Republic wasn't always organized in the same way. In this case, the E1&2 era Republic didn't have its own army until Palpatine/Sidious commissioned one and rather than train and recruit sentients from the galaxy he had Kamino cook up some clones. Which I suppose was easier than having the militaries of the member worlds unified under a single combat command.
