  1. The real problem is that heavy armour users (seeing a trend here?) get more out of it than the rest of us. They can use anything, but light can only use light etc.
  2. Wildstar is a far better game, but it is being run into the ground. If it was F2P with a cartel system, etc, it'd be great. Really, they should just copy EQ2's system.
  3. Renaming the file just makes SW:TOR patch again. Edit: I did it wrong, I'll try it later. But I'm not entirely impressed by the fact that when you turn things off...fps gets better. Of course it does. Who knew graphical fx takes cpu and gpu power... The UI bit though, now that's interesting.
  4. I may try bit defender again later. I tried one before where it would block applications like crazy, and I'm fairly certain bitdefender would permanently delete my files. Webroot seems really good, and works like a charm, only 20 bucks year. I'll check it out later though. Now I'm wanting to buy a server CPU thanks to this thread...I'm going to school for Industrial Design...hrm...sounds like something that I'd "need" for school.
  5. Ya, one person in my group plays from Austrailia, and he was getting the same latency that we were, around 160-190 on harbinger. We're all East coast / Mid west, and got that latency. Switched to JC and our latency was back to normal (30-40) and his went back to 300-500.
  6. Lol, when my group transferred, we considered the harbinger... but said nope after having constant 160ms latency. Such good networking.
  7. Meh, I need to get a different anti virus, but the only one I have ever been happy with is either paid (webroot gaming edition) or Defender. Every other one screws up gaming etc in my experience. Bitdefender is the absolute worst, deleting files on its own etc. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places, but AV detection, etc.etc is just part of the equation... being able to set it to not auto delete your files etc would be nice to know. I still don't get any infections...but I do use my head / scan with multiple tools once in a while.
  8. Yeah, but for his system it shouldn't be an issue (besides perhaps FRAPS, but he couldn't really be recording while complaining about these problems...could he?). I mean I 3D model (solidworks) and play this game, at the very least I always have something streaming in the background (video). I use chrome, with 5-30 tabs open at a time. Why his problem boggles me...screams something is wrong on his end. Dunno, nothing anyone in here can do. Time to take it to a shop or something..unless the specs he's giving us aren't accurate.
  9. Problem is, his CPU is just marginally better than an i5 2500k, I don't have his issues. Not arguing that a better etc etc cpu wouldn't help. But something does seem to be amiss. I ran this at clock speeds just fine, so should he... Try disabling or putting your shadow quality to low, map cascades to medium. /shrug. All I can think.
  10. mmmm...yes it is. To be exact, it's a problem either on your end or between you and BW. Run a tracert etc, your ISP is probably crapping itself.
  11. That seems odd...an i5 2500k shouldn't bottle neck much, assuming you OC it and such. There aren't many CPUs really to upgrade to currently. At least that is my understanding. I mean to push mine to 4.5 or maybe a bit higher, 4.8...but I'm not sure about my MOBO. Never buying Gigabyte again. Edit: It should be noted that I say I believe a GPU -will- help this game for -me- is that a lot of the time my fps -is- being limited by the GPU, according to SW:TOR. My GPU was old when I bought it, it's even older now.
  12. It's weird really...they balance around PvP...but give PvE the content.
  13. Specs are: i5-2500k OC'd to 4.2GHz 6870 2GB 8GB Ram, etc etc. My gpu is a major bottleneck, but I'm waiting to see what AMD / Nvidia release next before I dump a chunk of change on a new GPU. Your CPU still seems a bit high for fleet use though, but maybe that's due to stock clocks? I'd try, perhaps, uninstalling all of your GPU drivers, and installing fresh from the site, or even generic windows ones. Unfortunately I can't really give any proper advice other than to fresh install drivers, or look and see if there is a specific conflict with your card and the game etc. Have you try the Heaven benchmark or any other?
  14. The balance has gotten exponentially worse as patches have gone on. They continue to nerf classes that either don't need it, or do need it but so do others, but the others are not nerfed / not nerfed to the same level, or nerf classes improperly (looking at the up coming sorc nuke). They also buff classes poorly / forget about them. Take PT / Jug tanks compared to sin tanks. IE, they've given sin traits to Jugs / PTs. Healing, shroud, etc. That being said, this is not to say everyone moaning about dps is right! Usually I'd say it's a noob complaining he can't do X or Y because his gear or skill is Z. Then you have mercs claiming they're the lowest RDPS because one of their specs is kind of sucky (soon, both sorc dps specs will be trash (sorcs will be loosing 300-400 dps, while mercs are loosing 100ish iirc)) Shadows have a dps bug (unless that was fixed) that gives them a dps advantage over sins, their phasewalk is better (instant vs delayed), Hatred is being nerfed by quite a bit. Most dps complaints, and many other balancing complaints stem from PvP, and they are generally addressed. So they're balancing PvE around PvP...and it doesn't work. This is a company who has used stop watches to time parses and judge how to balance dps, and whose combat balance lead played a jug...and through the entire expansion (and this one too) jugs were buffed. Bottom line, there is a lot of crap on the forums, but that doesn't mean the game is balanced and they're all noobs...it's a lot of both.
  15. Got the program you're using and decided to hop on SW:TOR on the fleet. Here are my results: http://imgur.com/6F95mrS and this is my task manager: http://imgur.com/jxMw5b7 Not sure why it's reading the cores the way it is, but anywho. I know it's just on the fleet, but no queues or at least, that I want to wait for are popping.
  16. Ah...oh well. Nothing much I can really say anyway. I suppose he could try running Prime95 and seeing what happens with his benchmark then. Though even that isn't a great comparison to SW:TOR, but it is CPU heavy. Have you looked at the task manage to see what is eating up your cpu? At the end of the day, something is using your CPU that shouldn't be, or is using it wrong. That's really all we can say. Edit: Yes, a shot of your task manager while SW:TOR is running would actually be helpful.
  17. Red is CPU. So something is going on with your cpu, or how SW:TOR utilizes it. (I'm no expert, just google fu). I would say go try and overclock, but you shouldn't (i'd imagine) be having these issues at stock clocks. It seems odd that all four cores are running that high though, as afaik this game won't use all 4.
  18. Something has to be wrong. I'm not defending SW:TOR here, it is one of the worst optimized games out there, including EQ2...which as anyone know, is abysmal. I'm running a 6870 2gb and a 2500k OC to 4.2 GHZ, and I don't have these issues, even at normal clock. Though every time they update the shadows to make them better optimized etc, the game performance goes worse. Did you clone your installation to your ssd? Only thing I can think of is re-installing SW:TOR, and seeing if that helps anything. That and contacting their CS. Edit: I run fps, ops, and wz at 25-90 fps on this rig on ultra, generally. Bloodhunt is nuts, and some of the new ops are as well...just easier to put shadows on low. Another thing, I'm not sure if you have, but what colour are your FPS? Green = limited by GPU, Red by CPU, Yellow by both.
  19. On the forums, it's KBN's way or get out lol. Is what it is, I appreciate all the work in the thread.
  20. Could have used you in 2.0 man. I was a "HP bag"...worked great for me haha. If I raid in 3.0, I'll probably do a similar set up.
  21. Anyone going to use the Bulwark / whatever the defense variant was enhancements? Or is everyone going with the high end ones? Edit: nm, don't post while tired. Mixed up the merchant vs token enhancements lol.
  22. Pretty much this. Though, Phasewalk does have other uses, unfortunately using it for those uses removes the healing part. Then you have the ability to stand in it, or lack there of on some fights, etc etc. But eh, Sins just don't get any love for tanking. Can't wait to see how they nerf us in 3.0, and buff Jugs.
