  1. I agree. Add to that the fact that the population problem makes it non-MMO for most players.
  2. Again, the issue is not whether it is "capable" of supporting hundreds of people, it is whether it actually does. And the game engine, btw, is probably the worst I have seen at supporting many people in the same area at the same time.
  3. I can tell why SWTOR is not an MMO. First, do you play on one of the handful of full servers? If so, then it generally is an MMO. There is no OWPVP, but that is a different issue. The problem is that the terrible server management and the game engine itself do not allow any substantial number of players to interact at the same time. I played a lot of LOTRO. It never, never, was as dead as the typical SWTOR plant. I dont think I ever was in a region in LOTRO where I was the only person. Typically there would be a half dozen people within viewing range. In LOTRO you could get twenty people in the screen and not have freezes. Then at each major destination point you nearly always had five or more people within a few seconds of movement space. This was after a year of play. And it was the same the entire year since I started playing it in closed beta. Now, having been on Tera since beta, we still have many people playing in almost every area. You NEVER, in either LOTRO or Tera, can move at full speed for twenty minutes and not see a single other player. That is common in SWTOR. Understand now?
  4. Hey, what's the latest on when they publicly stated they will try to do something in an attempt to make the population issue less of a huge problem (I was going to ask "when will they fix the population issue" but that would have been a stupid question. Last I saw a couple of months ago was some promise about transfers-how did that work out? Been gone a month or so). Still enjoying playing Tera. Dont mind being ganked in open world pvp, even. I got a zerker, which is not the best owpvp option. When I started SWTOR I was concerned about owpvp and got a ranged class. Stupid mistake.
  5. Massive Multiplayer Online. Kids, you probably dont remember past the last two or three MMOs that came out, but the fact is that SWTOR is not an MMO. There was a game called Neverwinter Nights. It allowed people to create and then host their own private worlds that they created (open code), so a single private server might host fifty to sixty people. That was more of multiplayer game than are 95% of the SWTOR servers. "Massive" means "a lot". Comprendez? The argument that there are many subsribers to SWTOR so that makes it "massive" is idiotic. Sometimes when I see such clealy vacuous and illogical posts I wonder if the poster is being deliberately stupid just to stir things up. Meanwhile, all is well in Tera (although it seems to have attracted a lot of 14 yr olds )
  6. It is a single player game for several reasons: 1. population issue. Two hundred plus servers: Being on a planet on a saturday afternoon with a population of 5. Or one (me, by myself, oh. I forgot, and my npc) And the other people, of there are any ,are all in instances. 2. game machine inadequacies. Twenty people in an area causes lag problems, so they design that likelihood away. 3. a lot of instances, to get people out of the world area 4. no reason to stay in the open world area - the opposing side is a ten minute ride away; there are few good rare spawns with rare drops; there is no need to gather in the open world for crafting. So just hang out in the fleet, waiting for a pvp bf to open up. Woot. Hutball for the five hundreth time. 5. trading. seriously? see population issues above. This could be a MMO but they first MUST FIX THE POPULATION ISSUE. GET IT, bw? Then they can work on the other issues. But I dont know how they fix the engine to allow a hundred people in a single area at once. Tera uses channels. That would be a good start.
  7. He said these are things the game needs. Not, "these things are needed from the aspect of a multiplayer environment". And housing is more for multiplayer than for a single player RPG like SWTOR.
  8. I agree with all of the above. In addition they should introduce rare mob spawns with rare drops, and increase mats you can harvest (or decrease amounts you can send your alt to get) so as to increase the need or reasons for people to be in the open world. Right now, most open world areas are deserted. No one harvests anything. So one more reason for no owpvp.
  9. Bye guys. One week to go and I wont be resubbing until I see them fix their population issue, at a minimum. I'm playing Tera.
  10. Public service announcement: We know BW is planning transfers in the future. Transfers are not as effective a way to deal with the population fiasco as is a planned server merger process. Read other posts here and learn to THINK.
  11. So these BW people allow you on the AP servers who live in the selected AP countries to select to transfer in to heavy pop servers? Wow. Has anyone at BW worked on an MMO before?
  12. There always will be people who for some unknown reason will stick with a lousy game. Isnt Vanguard still around? The few thousand people sending in a couple of hundred bucks a year will cover the operating costs of some PC sized server and two people monitoring it. You wont get back $300 million though.
  13. People who say to reroll like its no big deal, must not have lives, or have crappy characters. The people who state that its easy to lvl to 50 either are invalids who have no other things to do with lives, or have skipped all the crafting, have low lvl legacy, have no pvp gear etc, are not in a guild and spend their time farming droids to pass the day. Others who have spent a lot of time and effort into their characters reverse engineering every design in a craft, or have all of the top level pvp gear, are not so cavalier about tossing it down the toilet and rerolling on fatman. Or worse yet, rolling again on another server they thought would become full, only to see it eventually become "standard" (lol). So, for the mentally impaired. let me state the obvious: 1. The population issue has been seriously mismanaged, worse than on any MMO on which I have ever played (and I have played on about 20 of them, just about them all). No other company started so soon with so many servers. It is ridiculous. Noobs at work. 2. People dont like seeing four or five months of effort go to sht for no reason. Rerolling is not an option. 3. BW is screwing around with this problem and shouldve/couldve addressed it in March 4. Transfers will not work as well as mergers, and BW could deal with the name and legacy issues if they put their minds to it. 5. SWTOR is a good game and will be successful if properly managed. But I dont see that happening any time soon. The published comments from the BW team only makes me more sure than ever that they dont know what they are doing. My character is not uber but I have seen posts from people who obviously put a lot of effort into theirs and now are being ignored. I got bored with being the only dmn person on the entire planet so I am playing Tera. BTW check out how Tera uses channels BW. You might learn something.
  14. Solutions:: 1. Surnames, with periods after first name 2. Mergers 3. Channels Likelihood of any happening?
  15. Fanboy, I have a question: Will we get to choose the servers to which we can transfer (recognizing that high volume servers will be excluded)? How is it working for those people who live in the few selected countries in AP for which this has been implemented?
  16. they can fix the name issue by allowing surnames, separated by a period. LIke they do in Tera. They could allow more people per planet by using channels. like they do in Tera. But they dont know how to run an MMO. It's too bad. Good story lines, good graphics, good gameplay. Bad management...
  17. I like transfers. Preferably to random servers you dont get to choose. That will help break up all the cliques and other social type groups I abhor. Let them start from scratch forming new cliques... Haha. I dont like to be around other people. It irritates me. I like getting all buffed doing my soloing and farming, and then talking about my gear in these forums. But the thought that these other people have friends they chat with and go on adventures with makes me depressed. So I like BioWares' transfer proposal. I am on Naddist Rebels. Sometimes I am on planets and I am the only one. But then the day passes, and one or two other people show up. I can't see them, but I know that they are there, because of the population box at the top of the screen. This irritates me. It is my planet. I was there first. They need to get off and leave me alone. Now, with the transfers, they will leave. And I will be left alone. Maybe I will have the entire server to myself. Maybe I can get BioWare to rename it "Drunkenpig's Universe". That would be cool. So keep it up Bioware. You guys are on the right path!
  18. What is meant by "pleasing dissatisfaction"? (BW forum police quote). This is not the first instance I have seen of someone posting from BW who obviously has trouble using the English Language. I worked with Koreans for years and all of them had a better command of the English language. Where do you get these guys, BW?
  19. the answer is "channels". players know what I mean. does BW?
  20. If anyone wants to see what a MASSIVEMO looks and plays like, join Tera. Tera has a feature, not unique but definitely needed by SWTOR, of different channels. That way, if you are in an area and it is overrun with other players, you (and your group) can move to a different channel (1-10 eg). You can see your group mates on the map, even if they are in another channel, and can send chat to form groups, to all people in the area, no matter what channel they are in. This fixes the problem where the player's PC isnt capable of handling 50 people on screen at the same time. It doesnt fix a POS server that can't handle hundreds of players.
  21. Cant BW hire someone who can write English in a grammatically correct manner? Or are they making fun of Asians?
