  1. I used the random name generator for my first few toons, and was pretty happy with the names. Tried to make them sound "starwarsish" too. Now I rolled a toon named Justin Bieber (legacy name) for *****s and giggles. Is it dumb? Sure. But it makes people laugh, it makes for some interesting conversations at times. It's my way of mocking and having fun online. Feel like reporting me? Go ahead, I'll roll Charlie Sheen next. If you think it's bad and worthy of reporting, it's your call. If you don't want to play with me, so be it (even though I consider myself as being a fairly social and fun guy, and a competitive player), others will team with me anyway. But imo, bringing a smile to a face is worth a lot more than naming your char Quaigawn Jiin or Ohbei'Huan Khenowbi. *edit* - forgot to mention I don't play on a RP server though, I play on a PvP server, and being killed by Justin Bieber who does /spit on you afterwards is the fun factor I was aiming for. Would never use a name like that on a RP server.
  2. This is pretty much true. The fact that it had graphics designed for younger generations also contributed to the way it was developed over the years, and, as a market leader, how future games were built.
  3. It's not the adults and working-class that complain and bring change, it's the access of smaller and smaller children to MMO's, and the content has to be tuned down to appease these players too. Nowadays, it's pretty common for a father to play together with his 11 year old son, for whom, obviously, the challenge of a hardcore MMO proves to be too much. When I quit AO back in the day, I got 2k $ for my account from a father who wanted his son to play too, and the son was simply incapable of leveling up a toon, so the father decided to give him a finished char to pew pew people with. That is why, slowly, the MMO content gets easier and easier, and the hardcore players have less and less options.
  4. The state of polish in the game is not in question here. With 0 bugs, perfect balance, 200 fps for everyone, the game would still be easy-mode. It's the basic design that is flawed. Oh, and you obviously haven't been through that many launches if you consider SWTOR to be a rushed launch. It's one of the most polished games at launch I've played. The MMOs I loved the most were in a lot worse shape at launch (DaoC, AO, AoC, etc.).
  5. Was hoping TOR would be my new MMO love. And I do love it. It's great. And yet, I feel discouraged from thinking, of putting effort into having the supreme character. It's just a matter of time, and not much of it. There are 3 steps to the game imo: 1.) Level to 50 (takes around 2-3 weeks for an avarage player) 2.) Farm up to battlemaster gear (takes about 3-4 weeks of constant pvping at a normal play rate) 3.) Farm up Rataka gear, and complete all hardmode FPs and operations (also takes around 2-3 weeks, depending on server and playtime). So, bottom line, here you are, 2 months later, level 50, the ultimate gear for both PvE and PvP. Not much else to do, you roll an alt. Is the game fun? Sure. Will I be playing it for awhile? Probably. On the other hand, it's too easy, does not challenge me as a player, and, most importantly, its over before it has ever begun. Farming money? Unnecessary. Why would I bother to be the supreme crafter on the server, when not many people buy or need crafted stuff, nor do I need the profits. Original skill builds? Let's face it, the options are limited, usually it's 2/3 of the skill trees that are viable for either PvP or PvE. You go one way, or the other. Hybrid builds dont work. Not much to think about. To end this, because I'll be carried away, I'm not happy. I don't blame Bioware. They adapt to what the market wants, obviously. And the market, after WoW, wants easier and easier games. Even now, the TOR forums are full of people asking for sentinel boosts, operative nerfs, and so on, simply because they cannot be bothered to figure out how to play or counter a class. After years of waiting for SWTOR, I am now considering of re-activating my Anarchy Online account. It's old, ugly, with a limited community. Yet I never felt more challanged than there. It would take me (knowing 90% of the game by heart) more than a year to get to that ultimate gear and status with a character, and I would probably spend that much again working on a different build, a better setup, an original approach. The MMO market was born with Asheron's Call. It reached its peak level with DaoC, AO, and Ultima. It died with WoW. RIP MMORPG's, you will be missed!
  6. The level 40 pvp set is also dark blue/black-ish, and looks really good (afaik)
  7. This. JK and Smuggler PvP sets are by far the most retarded looking.
  8. To answer your thread title question: Yes, automatic death - for them! A sniper has absolutely no way to counter a lvl 50 good sentinel. Mainly because of the constant bugs with channel skills of the class when facing melee opponents. Just do the following: - stay real close to them at all times - move around in circles while hitting them - time your interrupts/stealth with their use of Ambush
  9. I would say that accuracy is the same for every class, I usually aim for a 98% or so hit chance. I'm not exactly sure how it works though, I know of people with 100% hit chance who still have their attacks resisted/defended/parried at times.
  10. Please don't pull facts out of your arse. The LOS applies the same for any class. You obviously haven't played sniper. If you are not in visual range, you can't shoot, regardless of class. But please, keep QQing, QQ enough and BW will give you an instant win-the-game button.
  11. You are either trying to solo heroic content, or you really are terrible. Dunno what to say. I've given you some realistic things to look into. Others can't play the class. Your other options are to learn the class, re-roll, or shut up!
  12. WE don't want dual spec, YOU want dual spec. I'm fine with what I have. People can't even master one single spec, and you want them to have two? Pfffffffffffff, please! Oh, and stop talking in plural, you don't represent the community, I can't remember having an election for community presidency, and you winning it!
  13. All I hear is mememe, I'm cancelling sub, my class isn't a 3-button, 3 sec killer anymore, I now have to work for my kills! By all means, goodbye and good riddance! *facepalm*
  14. Actually, I did want to say it, and I did say it People often don't like to hear the truth though.
  15. Again, there are people whining all over the forums. And there are people not whining and doing well. I wonder how those that are doing well manage? Trooper? Please, that's a 1 button class, same as BH, spam Grav Round/Tracer Missile and you're done. Smuggler? Smugglers are really gear dependent too, especially gunslingers (or snipers on imp side). As for the difference between 49 and 50 purples is HUGE. Check the stats on Rataki gear, and then check the stats on your 49 armor. I'll say this again. Sentinels are hard to play, probably among the hardest classes out there. Hard doesn't mean broken. I've played 7 out of the 8 possible ACs to lvl 20 and above, and I can confirm that sentinels have a tougher time than most. Still, you ARE doing something wrong. Oh, and about Doc. I find that as a Sentinel, I'd much rather use a strong DPS or tank companion over a healer, simply because Doc often can't outheal the damage output of elite mobs, sentinels simply can't take that kind of punishment. Doc works great for Guardians, as they can withstand a nuclear explosion. I'd strongly suggest using T7 for really tough bossfights, and Kira for everything else, not because you are tempted to put it in her pooper, but because killing fast = taking less damage. You are, for sure, missing something from your gamestyle. Try to figure out what's your biggest weakness and work around it. I assure you, it's not the class, it's you.
  16. +1 for using an almost identical key-binding system to mine. And I use combat too atm, works for me, some people say focus is better for pvp, but I don't know, I'm happy with combat, hitting like a truck.
  17. So, you think that if you're level 50, you know how to play a class? Sorry mate, I'm not giving you the satisfaction. Granted, Sentinels/Marauders aren't the easiest classes to master. But if you're having trouble now that you've hit the level cap, I suggest you re-roll to an easier class. Especially since you are Watchman specced, which is the easiest to play PvE wise of the 3 specs. If you think Watchman has a hard time, wait till you see Focus. You're problems are coming from one (or multiple) factors: - weak or mediocre gear, on both you and your companion - the wrong use of companions in the wrong fights - the wrong skill setup on companions (just because they have 9 skills doesn't mean you have to use all of them; for instance, Doc should do what he does best, heal, I have most damage skills on him removed, forcing him to heal) - lack of reflexes to counter various situations (no, having a rotation doesn't work, you need to adapt, you need to interrupt that caster's big burst skill, you need to prevent the healer from healing, you need to do AOE damage when surrounded by multiple mobs, etc.) - lack of stimpacks/buffs - no use of Line of Sight (aka LOS) - if you're fighting an elite, make sure the ranged adds can't shoot you in the meantime And the list could go on....
  18. I am aware it's not JUST a PvP game. I don't mind. But end-game atm means one PvE set and one PvP set. My aim is to have both (one equipped, one in the inventory), and switch according to what I'm doing. However, this does not solve the problem of looking terrible when PvPing, or, in some cases, PvEing. What about classes who have horrible looking armors on both ends? For instance, the PvP and PvE armor set of the smuggler class is almost identical, and both look annoying. I'm playing SWTOR, not a marvel MMO, I don't want my smuggler to look like Captain Retard!
  19. Good to know, just wanted to share an alternative solution, although I'm sure BW thought of this already. Still, what you say makes sense, I could live with that tbh, even though some green grade items look wicked and wouldn't be usable with that system.
  20. First, my bad for posting this here, in General. I really though general was, well, a general thread. I must have been mistaken, since it's obviously a specific topic you'll shed light on, I'm sure. Second, I bump the thread because of the lack of responses and don't want an idea to get lost on page 132. Last I checked, it wasn't illegal in the state I live in; and frankly, a bump isn't exactly spamming. Again, sorry for taking up space from reposted questions and non-constructive whine threads. Third, I am a PvPer. To be competitive, I need to wear Centurion, Champion or Battlemaster gear, which looks the same, apart from minor color differences. You're telling me that if I ( and a lot of other people as well ) don't like the way armors look like, we shouldn't use the PvP sets? That's your big answer to the problem? And some PvE armors have the same problems. So, people who like raiding should use crappy gear just to look decent or somewhat closer to their image of how their character SHOULD look like? I imagine my bounty hunter to look like Bobba Fett, not like a bee-farmer or hockey player. And lastly, the "textures" and "models" you refer to already exist. I did clearly state that lower level armors look great. Those should be re-used. That's it. And don't presume to know what my knowledge is limited to.
  21. Other classes face similar issues (weakly geared powertech is slow as hell in killing mobs, however, is helped early on by Mako; on the other hand, a weak sniper will have a lot of problems past lvl 20 unless in decent gear and with some knowledge of the game). The JK isn't underpowered. Some classes just need more skill than others.
  22. I assure you, as mainly an Empire player, some of the Empire armors are equally ugly.
  23. Well, the idea you are suggesting also works, even if it's in a different way. Either way, the endgame armors look bad, if not horrible at times (with some exceptions). Any system that would allow me to customize the appearance of my character would make me happy to be honest.
  24. Had similar issues on my sniper, to the ones you describe. I'd recommend using T7 until you get Doc. One neat trick with this is that T7 will take most of the dmg, while you kill stuff, leaving you full hp after fights, and T7 (or any similar tank companion) at 10-20% hp. To save time, right-click on his portrait, dismiss him, and summon him again. Every time you do this, T7 is summoned back at full hp, saving you the time of regular healing. Also, your gear is probably lacking. If you use armors from quest rewards, it's understandable you and Kira are aboth losing hp fast. Spend some money on purple gear, its well worth the investment, you can find most armor parts for that lvl at a price around 10k. You'll notice that having a well equipped char and companion makes things a LOT easier. I personally do the following: Pick up slicing and treasure hunting, as well as biochem. I use reusable stimpacks to heal myself during fights. I also have a steady income from picking up slicing resources across the planet, and I constantly, without any breaks, send unused companions after treasure hunting lockboxes. This gets me two things: 1.) A steady income so I can afford biochem mats from GTN and constantly keep a good quality gear on myself and the companion I use 2.) Treasure Hunting lockboxes very often include random blue-grade items, which are either better that I or my companion are wearing, or aren't, and I end up selling them for 4-10k on GTN, again providing me with cash to buy better gear 3.) I always, and I mean ALWAYS pick commendations as rewards from quests; Once I finish a planet, I have around 30 of them, meaning I can get 2 good quality items for myself or my companion, or buy the 24 commendation purple lockboxes and use/sell the contents; Also, when facing multiple mobs, make sure you focus on killing the low hp ones first to stop them from damaging you, and focus on strong/elite grade mobs last. Hope these tips will help you, I know how useless you can feel with some classes (like I said, hitting 50 with my sniper was insanely hard for me, being my first char, I often died 9-10 times on a main quest boss after lvl 45). Also, keep in mind that the Focus spec tree is more PvP oriented, if you want to have an easier time questing, I'd suggest re-speccing into Watchman, which gives a lot more sustain in PvE.
