not a bad game but.........

What is the attraction of an MMORPG.... answer that? see if you can do it without mentioning other players

If you think the point is sitting around in player cities doing nothing except hanging out and hoping to organize some PVP while desperatly trying to come up with ways to entertain yourselves, then we are at an impass.

I love organzing groups to overcome challenges as a team. I don't love spending hours doing nothing.

This is an intelligent discussion, if your going to be a smart alec and not say anything to do with the topic at hand then the WOW forums are..... well you know where they are

I was just adding a funny. I didn't mean it in any way to be personal.

And I only played WoW for a short period of time about 4 years ago, why would I go to those forums?

But if you want serious then I can manage that, barely.

You are looking at it from the wrong angle entirely.

This isn't SWG mark 2. The community you had there is going to be vastly different due to the guys and gals here all coming from various other place.

You have WoW players, WAR, Aion, DCUO, LOTRO, DDO, Rift and so on and so forth. They all had different communities that were built up over time.

It's only a few days old. People are still exploring and finding out what they can and can't do.

I've bumped into a few people that are new to MMO's completely, this is their first time bless their cotton socks. They aren't going to chat in general because they don't want to look silly for asking a daft question.

It takes time to build up a community. It certainly won't happen over the course of a week.

oh and another thing to rant about....... Space? deary deary me, what a minigame, 6-8 years ago SWG was able to create a space game 1000x better than this minigame that could be made by one of the flash gaming developers minus the graphics.... if i remember right one of the developers bigged that one up as well, i'll post my evidence when i find it, hang on.....

I'm not asking for SWG mark 2, im asking for an MMORPG, you say there are new guys to MMO's, i know this but what about MMO veterens, they would not care about looking silly for posting a question... they know the drill

I realise that, all i'm saying is it takes time to build up.

I spend quite a bit of time in ye olde warzones and got chatting to some people I bump into there on a regular basis.

A lot of folks don't want to sit around doing nothing. It's a new shiny world to look at, they want to get out there.

Some of those MMO vets you mention are part of the "hardcore" set, they don't tend to socialise more go for loot and see content.

Just give it a bit of time and see how it goes. Pretty sure you'll start seeing familiar faces around and get chatting.

This community is largely made up of the WoW community. That should put all the WoW bashing into perspective.

I think this is a huge misperception. The MMO universe does not center around WoW. I have ran into more players from SWG, EVE, CoH and Rift than I have WoW so far on the servers I have played on.

(yes I server hop, I try to find one that the general community is one I like)

sorry if it wasn't clear.

Hence the reason I was GM for an endgame raiding guild in WoW for the last 4 years, and Before that the Mayor and guild leader for an SWG guild for 2 years.

SWG was just so lacking. I am so happy this sint SWG2.

Yes I had 3 SWG accounts, because finding good weapons and armor was so hard, so, I was my server best Weaponsmith and armorsmith.

I'm sorry but I totally agree. SWG did social 100x better, before the dark times, before they nerfed socialization.

I like this game but it certainly does not promote socialization in any way.

QFE and I agree!

They should have modeled this game after SWG not WOW.

I know WOW has the fan baes that every MMO company dreams of, but to be honest no other MMO has ever came close to reaching the bar that SWG set. It would have been nice for Bioware to have at least tried to reach the bar SWG set, not follow WOW like a bunch of copy cats.

exactly, players from the COMMUNITY, by SOCIALISING

I never said I was against socializing, I said

I was disagreeing with the notion that SWG, being more social, made it a better game.

Never said some amount of socializing isnt good.

While I agree SWG did a lot of things very well, they did not do fun well.

WoW, overall is a far better game than SWG.

SWG had a ton of potential, but just fell flat.

Ah but if you look at my original post i did not just dig at the social side, and besides, me and a LOT of people preferred SWG to SWTOR.

It would have been nice to see Bioware take the potential it had and run with it rather than re skinning WOW.

I think Lucas arts dropped the ball bigtime on this one. Time will tell. I have a feeling I am right on this.

Unless Bioware takes this game in the direction that SWG was, it will never be anything more than a re skinned WOW.

They already hurt this game huge by not at least have the social element that SWG had. Dropped the ball huge in my opinioon on that one.

So you did not try improved GCW or heroics or any of that FUN stuff? dont forget for its time SWG was a SANDBOX, you were meant to create your OWN stories, its all about your imagination...

everytime there is a single critisism it seems everyone jumps on the poster like he is an animal, or trolls him, its barbaric.

Come on, be honest here. Probably 9 out of 10 negative threads are rants instead of constructive criticism. "PVP is a joke", "This game is horrible", "If they don't change X, I'm cancelling my sub", "this game is epic fail".....could go on and on. If people are just going to rant, then they are going to get flamed. Don't rant on a public forum if you are too thin-skinned to handle the inevitable backlash. The whole "fanboy" claim is an all too transparent attempt to insulate one's self from that backlash. It's ironic that the people posting the negative rants claiming they are just providing "criticism" of the game are the people who can't handle any criticism themselves. I guess if someone posts a negative rant, then we're all supposed to just nod and agree. Unless you agree with every piece of negative nonsense posted, then you're automatically a "fanboy". Nice attempt at rationalization to justify ranting.

Frankly, I don't need someone to tell me their opinion of the game and, more importantly, I don't need someone to tell me what my opinion should be. I can form my own opinions. If there are bugs, those comments belong in the customer service forum or in-game or email support tickets to BW...don't tell me about the bugs, I can't do anything about them. If they are suggestions to improve the game, then great....assuming they haven't already been suggested 50 times. Honestly, I could do without seeing another thread of "the UI sucks and we need to be able to customize it". Creating new threads for repetitive things like this just clutters the forum. Sure we don't have the search feature back yet due to their maintenance issues but you can find at least one of these threads on the first two pages of the general discussion section at any given time. People need to quit making new threads to repeat the same stuff over and over.

As for the "community", there is no community yet. You can't make any reasonable judgments on the community until the 30 day gametime period has passed. Until then, you've got some very vocal people who have already cancelled or claimed they are cancelling their accounts. These people are angry and they are venting and ranting while they still can since they already paid the money for the game and the 30 days. We'll see who's left after the 30 days expires and then you can start talking about the "community".

There were like 10 people playing SWG there are over 2 million playing SWTOR, I have a feeling you are in the minority.

Bioware better thank Lucas Arts BIGTIME for not allowing SWG to continue to run. Because I will tell you right now that if SWG was still online I would take the $79.99 I spent on this game as a loss and be playing SWG right now. And thats pretty sad considering SWG is like 10 years old!

No, critisise an un-civilised rant but dont go and troll him/her and tell them that THEY are wrong, disagree with them but dont make fun of them or bully them just because they are not happy with their product

I have come from SWG which IN MY OPINION is one of the best social communities out there

Well that's your problem. SWG has shaped your expectations of this game, which is a direction that the development team here didn't take. For a couple of reasons, though the most obvious one being, they weren't going to make the game like SWG since SWG was already made.

This game is social. I've met people. I've grouped. It's fine. It's not like SWG. But it's definitely functional.

I think one of the biggest mistakes people make about this game is they expect too much right out of the box. This game will add more depth to its content as it evolves.

And you know, for some perspective, I'll cite Star Wars Galaxies. When it launched, there were multiple broken classes. Including the one I was playing, Commando. I could not get XP properly in that class. For well over a month. And to add to that, various mission termnials on Naboo were broken, not giving missions.

THIS game, however, I get to finally play a Commando. From the start. No bugs in my way.

See? It's all going to be A-OK in the end.
