so unless I am confused, you just do whatever you want that grants exp and when you get enough command xp, youll be granted gear?

yeah

There is no operation, or tokens you can farm, its all just command xp based, with RNG gear drops?

next week there will be a way to farm specific pieces for PVP & Operations

Yep, all RNG and the patch next week, from what they have said so far, isn't going to really fix that. We'll know more, for sure, when the patch notes come out later this week.

You can farm operations to get gear from there instead. You can farm credits to buy gear from the GTN instead.

Just to clarify...doing whatever you want is not how it works. You need to do things that Bioware grants CXP for. It's not like you get CXP for crafting or decorating - you need to be doing tasks/things that they have predetermined to grant CXP.

You can get 240 schematics and crafting mats from NiM ops, and in 5.1 you'll get set piece tokens too.

Exactly.

But the person you responded to looks down his nose on anything related to crafting. It's fine if he wants to ignore crafted gear, but many others have indeed largely bypassed GC completely, are reasonably geared, and are now playing whatever they want in game, without feeling locked out due to gear limitations.

Separately, in response to the OP:

If you like end game group content, join a good guild that is working to equip all their members without needing GC.. and move forward. Guilds bypassing GC are largely already well into gearing at the 240 level for their members.

If you are a solo player, and not interested in group content much, then just buy yourself a full set of 220s or 228s off the GTN and augment them and you are set for the duration of 5.x. Or, if you are more patient... just play the game geared as you are and 220s and 228s will random drop from any mobs you kill... though stat optimizations will not necessarily match your needs.. so you may buy some and sell some through the GTN to get where you want to be.

If you are very casual and not that interesting in gear stats, you can buy 210 mods from fleet vendors and put them in any shells you like.. and upgrade from there... since crafters are selling a lot of 220-240 mods for gear now. 220s would be pretty inexpensive, with 228s being 2 to 3 times the cost, but 230 to 240 will be notably more expensive as they require materials that only drop in group encounters. Patience is to your benefit if you go this route as there is a lot of competition in the crafting trades which help drive down spot prices on the GTN.
