You've finally helped me decide it's probably time to move on from this game.

Rank 21 now, still 0 set bonus gear and continually giving the same rewards (i.e. 7 earpieces so far). I don't mind grinding, but if I'm grinding with literally no idea what I'm grinding for it seems pointless. Never turned off game in disgust before but have now, first time for everything.

I'll play until sub runs out, if a few set bonus pieces drop I might think about re-subbing, but if drop rates continues like this you've pretty much lost me. Even in 3.0 the amount of PVP I've already played since 5.0 came out I would have earned a few pieces. Sure you screwed up making it so easy in 4.0 but this is just ridiculous.

UPDATE 6/12: Got another earpiece last night, tried not to scream.

cool can i have your stuff? seriously though, set pieces will come, you arent suppose to get your whole set bonus in two days.. thats not how this system works, its intended to keep people invested in the game for a longer period of time. You dont need set bonus to do anything in this game... you can get 228. 230 gear from the market or from guild mates.

New and good repeatable stuff is for keeping people longer in game. Random chance to get random piece of gear once a while is clearly not that.

Main problem with new system is that there is no feel of satisfaction when you archive something. When you kill operation boss and he drops nothing or when you finish flashpoint and get no reward for finishing.

It is like you level character to max level and then you have to level him one more, but now only SOME of game activities will give you experience not all of them.

WoW has "bad luck protection" when it comes to loot.

Does SW:TOR have something similar? If no, they can consider it to eliminate extreme bad luck.

They claim they will keep an eye on it and do something if people have a lot of trouble with luck, but it comes across as lip service. If they really cared, they would have implemented "bad luck protection" from the start.

I think it's pretty clear that on a design level, they want people to have bad luck, so that they'll hunt gear for longer. And when they say they'll monitor it, what they really mean is, if the game is hemorrhaging subs, then they're obviously open to adjusting to keep the game from flushing down the toilet. But if not, they will do what they can to stick to their backwards Galactic Casino system.

Maybe bioware should mix rng with the classic token gear. We all ready have the new light/darkside tokens in game and they are useless for the most case, only getting empty gear at the vendor.

They should make set armor with small bonuses(like starter armor, but no mods you can get those via crafting ) that you can get via those tokens.

I`m not against the rng thing but i`m against it when your hours of grinding doesn't yield any results. I mean doing stuff in game just for the chance of getting something and getting nothing just makes you really try harder or quit, not the best way to play a game that should be fun.

What i`m saying is give us something solid to work for, but also give us the hope of something better out there.

I'm at rank 28 and 0 set bonus. I have got so far 2 same relics that is one upgrade at that rank for me.

I guess this is what they wanted to piss off players completely.

Well, they're going to have a grand time when they come to work this morning and see how many people unsubbed and/or criticized GC on the forum and/or didn't log in during the weekend - the first weekend of a new expansion which should be busy to the point of full servers.

Mind you, I didn't play as I had planned to either during the weekend, so I might be wrong about that last point.

Sharing my own experience:

I don't care about set bonus, I don't do Ops, I don't do ranked PvP, heck I barely do Flashpoints in Story mode.

But one thing I liked with each new expansion was to get all of my alts to cap and get the at least the first tier of gear (For example, 208 in 4.0)

I'm currently Command Rank 8.

Among the useless (And ugly) shells I got, here's what I got: Two off-hand sabers (Second was worse than the first so it was crap), a belt, a blue earpiece and FOUR PAIR OF PANTS WITH IDENTICAL STATS!

Like... What? How is that "working" as intended when I can't even not get the same piece multiple times? As soon as a piece drops in a GC, its chance to drop for that character should be lowered to nearly nothing until you've filled all your slots. That way, even if one doesn't get gear on each try, at least he doesn't keep disintegrating the same piece over and over.

This system is bad, really bad. I don't care that it "allows me to get gear by doing what I want", because it's not really true (The activities I don't/can't play are the only really viable ways to obtain gear in a decent a mount of time) and it alienates better players than me who were also paying for the game, and who, like me, seems to be considering leaving altogether.

5.0 was almost great on all point. The story was better (Both writting and presentation), Uprisings heralded a slow but much needed return towars group content, the new DvL system could have been better but there are some good foundations. So why ruin it all with the Command System as is? Way to waste your efforts spent on KotET, really.

There is absolutely ZERO guarantee that anyone will get set bonus pieces. It's completely random, and not at all reflective of how many other lottery boxes you've opened thus far. Don't fall to the gambler's fallacy. This is why RNG gearing is unfair; it makes all your effort worth potentially NOTHING.

With legacy i had no problem with 3.0 getting geared. i was geared for my HM runs in only a couple of days running a crap tonne of alts through ops to feed one character. i put in a huge grind to get geared quickly to do the content i wanted to with the people i enjoy playing. now after testing this system its only less then a month and my sub and me playing the game is done.

Didn't you hear? You can share your spare doubles with your alts. So your main shouldn't be such a scrooge and share those 0 pieces with other characters in the legacy. :rak_03:

The system is crazy i mean the only thing you can use are purple pieces and rest is just for disintegration. Yes you can send stuff over via legacy but still. Now its pretty good that i have like 4 BiS pieces on my toon and still rank 16 but as i move on ill be more and more BiS and then i can optimzi, sure, make PVP and PVE gear, sure, but maybe at rank 300 it will just be a grind for the missing stuff and AGAIN, THIS IS ONLY 1 TOON!

This is the main problem as I see it. They've broken the reward cycle in the game entirely. Instead of improving upon the tried and true reward delivery (Kill Boss/Do Activity = Get reward from loot table/token vendor) they've decided to try something entirely new.

I think it is just an overall negative psychological experience for players. Even if the system works in theory, which I'm sure it does over a long enough timeline, the question devs I think should always ask is, "Is it fun? Does it FEEL good?" Given the responses I've seen to this system in-game, here, on Reddit, and going off of my own initial concerns about the system back when it was revealed I'm not so sure those questions were ever asked.

I mean, just something about the FEELING of killing a boss in an MMO an NOT getting loot off of the corpse should have been heavily discussed. Maybe it was. I think at the very least the system needs some major tweaking.

You're exactly right. Every team of MMO developers has to figure out how to balance amount of effort versus amount of reward to keep players willing to stay on that treadmill. If you make it too easy, people will get bored sooner and quit. If you make it too hard, people will get frustrated sooner and quit. I imagine this can be quite a difficult challenge at times. I've seen multiple games misstep one direction or the other over the years.

The problem with the Galactic Command system isn't that it's too easy or it's too hard... it's that it's completely random in its outcome. Putting in a bunch of effort to clear a HM or NiM operation only to be rewarded with absolutely nothing for your time if RNGesus doesn't love you is extremely demoralizing. Opening crate after crate after crate after grinding for hours only to receive nothing makes you wonder why you even bothered putting in the time. You have to keep providing regular positive reinforcement for your players to make them want to keep playing. As it stands, the RNG loot system will only appeal to people who are primed for gambling addiction. Anyone who's aware of the Gambler's Fallacy or just hates having their time wasted will give up and move on to a more consistently rewarding game.
