  1. Compelling argument, do go on! Oh and on the Separatist thing, that's not an answer. My question was: How does an alliance of thousands of planets justify it's war against the Republic and maintains political cohesion. And that's not in the films. Sure, Palpatine "controls" the Separatists but that doesn't explain how billions of people chose to break from the Republic. EDIT: Also, you're not good with sarcasm and snark, are you? Like, you take everything at face value and run with it. You REALLY think I intend to talk to you in ten years about the Sequels? Did you think I was serious? At all? I mean, I know you have a rather high opinion of yourself but... come on! A blind person could read the irony in that statement.
  2. The Prequels "added" a lot of concepts which were only developped and realized in supplementary materials. Quick question: Can you tell me, without mentioning the Clone Wars episode on the subject, exactly what was the structure of the Separatist movement and their demands? Answer: You can't, it's not in the movies. Any of them. TFA does copy a lot of moments and concepts of ANH but it remixes at lot of it, shifting the context and the intention behind it. It's a matter of personal appreciation. I thought it was an enteraining movie but it lacked ambition and scope. Saying that The Last Jedi didn't follow on TFA is non-sense. Everything that happens in the movie is coherent with TFA, just not what YOU expected to see happen. All of the characters arcs follow through logically (Except Rey's family longings considering she more or less had found a place at the end of TFA), the events are a logical follow through (Resistance evacuation, Luke having given up being already said by Han, etc...). And saying the Sequels are reliant on nostalgia when the Prequels litteraly reduced the galaxy's scope to a village FOR NOSTALGIA'S SAKE is hilarious. Yes, having Anakin being 3PO's creator is nostalgia bait, Jango Fett is nostagia bait, having clone armors look so similar to Stormtroopers IS NOSTALGIA BAIT. And if you actually bothered to read subreddits around Star Wars, especially Leaks and Cantina, you'd notice that people theorize a lot more about the new characters than Sheev. But considering your discourse is basically SaltierThanCrait's on steroids... I don't expect you to actually read up on opposing opinions. And thanks for authorizing me to fool myself into believing I'll like the movie. Next time I'm unsure what my opinion is supposed to be, I'll be sure to laugh at you then make up my own mind. Keep wallowing in your negativity, scream at those monsters from Disney and cry when they keep making well received movies. I'll hit you up in ten years when the Sequels are being positively compared to the new movies. And since my sub is running out I won't post again so let me conclude: Thanks for the laughs, I'll definitely forget about you by this evening and not think about you when going to see The Rise of Skywalker.
  3. Thanks, you opened my eyes! The desperation of Sequels haters confirms my belief that in ten years, the cycle will repeat with the next series that gets released. The Sequels will be worshipped like the Prequels are by those who grew up with them today and the new one will be condemned left and right by "older fans". And since tickets are not expansive at my age where I live, unless the film is a disaster (And I doubt it'll be) I'll probably see it twice at least.
  4. I couldn't help but poke at the guy. Don't mention the mess that was the continuity of Legends, it's perfect. Most of the stories were good. Honest! Also it wasn't being done for money! The NJO was 20 books long because they really had 20 stories to tell, not to sell 20 novels in a special "STORY EVENT! BUY NOW! ALSO CHEWBACCA IS DEAD! BUY TO LEARN HOW!"
  5. This is some quality entitlement! Apologizing to EU fans? How about getting Del Rey and pre-Disney Lucasfilm apologize to EU fans for mismanaging said EU to the point they took 13 years and almost 40 novels to accomplish less progress in the storyline than five Timothy Zahn books under Bantam Spectra and creating an unexploitable mess of a story that HAD to be canned when new films were made? Opinions are a magical thing. Or is that you in there Mauler? See above, ask old Lucasfilm to apologize for their incapacity to manage to the EU. It should have been better done so it could have at least been exploited in broad strokes. Obviously, the next Disney CEO will be an EU Fan who will decanonize the Sequels, raise Carrie Fisher from the dead, rejuvenate the old trio and adapt the Thrawn Trilogy. Oh and on the topic that kicked off this thread: Have you considered that Bioware writers maybe like the new movies and want to reference them? And that if you're asking/begging them to stop, you're attempting to stiffle their creativity and their fandom, which is exactly what you accuse Disney (It wasn't their decision BTW) to have done with the old EU. (And FYI, despite it being a total mess, I love a lot of Legends. But the post Hand of Thrawn era is mostly unsalvageable.)
  6. He would probably have been punished by Yoda. In that killing Palpatine would probably have sent the already borderline darkside Mace Windu bullrusing past the Even Horizon and gone dark as ****. That's Mace's whole schtick: Go so close to the DS that he's basically using the Siths' weapons to fight them. Also, he could have, like, cut his hands off. Boom, no more Force Lightning, only words. Danger mostly dealt with. And if Anakin being manipulated is such a concern, don't allow Anakin to go in alone. Or at all.
  7. Noted I didn't know what was different. Might just be me but the Direct Sales have been frequently criticized for being way overpriced. 60$ for the Unstable Arbiter Lightsaber (A full priced game on day one)? 15$ (The price of most mildly packed DLC content) for a single non-speaking companion? 40$ for the Shroud of Memory seems overpriced to me. The Guild Wars 2 comparison wasn't the best since there are a ton of Living World Episodes and they have less content per episode than Arma Rasa + Shroud of Memory so yes 10$ is a bit low. But 40, several times the price of the game and almost twice as much as Rise of the Hutt Cartel or Shadow of Revan. Only if the HK Bonus items are included too then. Otherwise it's not worth it based on previous "Digital Expansions" sold before.
  8. I don't know. It was short and could have been expanded. But between more companions returned this way and them having a full chapter of weak mobs to pummel through to justify their return... Let's just say that if those are the only options, I'll pick the Corso/Risha format. (I'd rather have a short, 20-30 minutes quest with a bit of combat in addition to the catch-up but that may be just me.)
  9. So Hammil gets a pass on everything but actual concept art pre-Disney buyout showing Luke as a bald, Zen Monk living like a recluse don't count? Gotcha. Also, let's maintain the narrative that TLJ somehow "betrayed" Lucas vision when he himself praised it and defended Johnson against haters. You really only read what fits your argument.
  10. Lothal is actually a shell for Mortis, I'm copyrighting this stupid theory right now!
  11. And yet: http://www.denofgeek.com/us/movies/star-wars/270073/how-george-lucas-influenced-star-wars-the-last-jedi Specifically: Wasn't that hard to find. Typed "Luke Hermit George Lucas". Second result.
  12. Not a great analogy. The CE was a physical item with limited numbers (With a gimmicky digital item too). And BW offered an upgrade to the CE (https://account.swtor.com/user/digitalupgrade. Note: If that's not the items you meant then I'll concede I was wrong.) Still digital content isn't the same as limited, physical goods. You'd have to sell your account. I doubt that's authorized. Because you want it to? You said it yourself: Offer and demand. There is demand for the chapter but at an outlandish price, the demand will wittle down to almost zero. They seem to be. Eric mentionned that the demand was being noted and there is an item unlock the chapter that was found some months ago. They are considering the idea is not commiting to it. A lot of chapter owner have been mentionning they wouldn't mind it being for sale. So you're wrong in claiming that "The players who have it" (As a general entity) don't want it for sale at all. True. But usually when an item is priced way above it's value, it's not bought. And as far as the chapter is concerned, we are talking about more or less 1 hours of content, maybe 2? Hardly worth more than 10$ compared to other games. That's the price Guild Wars 2 uses for it's Living Story Chapters that players missed (Same concept as the HK Chapter only without paying. You log-in when the chapter is current, you get it forever. You don't, you buy it.) Nope. Because as I said, 84$, the already inflated price, is for much more than just the chapter so if you expect anyone to pay twice that, you need to offer at least the base content, not less. I don't want the chapter "badly", I've already expressed my position. I'm interested in it, but I'm not slitting my wrists at the thought of not having it. Also I'm not supporting the game, I'm giving YOU money. Not BW. I'd rather deal with them, thanks. Why not? A few skins for ZO-OM and 55, maybe additional versions of the HK items (I've seen someone asking for a off-hand HK Vibroblade) Would prefer that too, I'm allergic to CC.
  13. Doesn't change the fact that Luke was striking out of anger. Even Palpatine is taunting him to let go of his Jedi "training" and unleash his anger to strike him down. At that moment, Luke is very much emotion driven. He lets his negative emotion take over. Sure he "could" have killed Palpatine without any anger, out of the much vaunted idea of justice. But in ROTJ he certainly wasn't doing that. And Luke Skywalker grew in those 30 years you didn't see him. Also, Lucas had already planned for Luke to be a bitter hermit in his version of the Sequels he ended up not making. So I'd say TLJ Luke was very much in accordance to his vision. Well, he didn't attack, did he? So he thought about attacking but didn't do it. You know, if you're going to criticize the film (And we both know it deserves criticism) at least try to be right about what you complain about. This isn't a matter of interpretation, it's outright STATED by Luke that it was a moment of instinct that led him to igniting his lightsaber and that he never really went forward with his split-second thought of killing Ben. It's said verbatim in the film. Great point, I agree. Then propose a coherent plot that keeps the movie's themes intact (Failure is the most painful but most important teacher. People are people, not legends. Stop looking for a savior and move your butt) with a Snoke vs. Luke fight scene. Both were shown in Rebels before (And had been seen in the Legends EU). Also each of the OT film added previously unknown Force Powers. So there's lots of precedents of it. Never stated in the film that it is a new tactic, canon-wise. There's a difference between creating a lightning bolt (Something Yoda didn't do) and direct a lightning bolt from a pre-existing storm to a specific place. Also, Obi-Wan said "I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine". Pretty sure "Sitting around on Dagobah" and "Smiling at Luke during an ewok ceremony" don't count as "More powerful than you can imagine". Affecting weather locally though. That could count. It extended canon. It did not change it. It didn't portray anything stated or shown to be impossible before as possible. Make him defy him to a duel, stopping the assault on the base just to show off only for the fight to have been a lure that wasted the First Order's time utterly. Making him the newly minted "Supremer Leader Ren" look like an utter tool? That's a good start for me. Yes but he wasn't the Supreme Leader then. Also, he usually suceeded until TFA began (And even then, he captured both Poe and Rey easily. Losing them wasn't on him.). Now his first big action as Supreme Leader ended in a relative defeat, to the point that the cinematography already hints at Hux planning something (Which he was before Kylo Ren took the mantle of Supreme Leader but dropped out of fear of him.) But the FO would have caught up with the Resistance had Luke not intervened. They would have plowed through the door and invaded the mines. Instead they camped in their walker and watched Ren fight with air. Re-igniting the spark of hope that had been snuffed out throughout the galaxy is having "little impact". Gotcha. Apparently you missed the last scene on Canto Bight. True, this planet sucks *** and was the worst part of the movie but the whole message behind Luke's passing is in this last scene. If you didn't get it, I'm sure someone else will explain it to you (Sub is running out, won't be able to do it.) I'm curious as to why! Why would it have "done wonders"? (That's not me disagreeing, I genuinely curious as to how a fight scene between an old hermit with no weapon and a limping salesman would have been good. Alright, I kind of disagree.) Yeah, so sad we didn't hear about what lead him to his exile and... Oh wait, it was in the movie. Should have used a better seasoning. I used Béchamel sauce myself, it kind of hid the imperfections.
  14. That's a pretty big assumption on your part that I didn't want to sub then. How about "I couldn't"? Seems more accurate to me. Also, my point wooshed so high past your head that it just reached orbit. I only adressed that idea that the chapter should be sold for 80+$. Which I agreed to. Provided the price includes the whole package. Which I didn't see you address.
  15. Beyond the fact that it wasn't my point at all, here are a few elements I want to address: -You "kept the company alive". Nice, cool. Thanks. So what would be the harm to allow others to do it now? They'd paid too. And the content exists. So for BW, re-releasing it as a paid chapter would be a source of profite and therefore, help keep them alive at no additional cost. -Who said anything about "giving it at a discount"? I only said that if some of the entitled "I donated my liver to get the chapter" demand that others donate a liver too (Note: That's an hyperbole, no need to get your mind riled up), then I expect to receive exactly what they donated their liver for. Not just the chapter but the bonuses, the companion AND the sub time. -Vintage cars don't all go up in price. It's actually a minority of them that do. And they need to be properly maintained and... Wait, we're talking about digital content in the video game, where's the correlation with physical, limited goods for collectors? Vintage cars that do go up in price do so because there's a limited number and they require some technical knowledge to keep in working order. This is a bunch of files for a video game. You're comparison isn't just irrelevant, it's downright idiotic. -Demand that Bioware devote its ressource? Are you serious? Making the item that unlocks the chapter (It already exists, it's been datamined) available would be "devoting ressources"? What I consider "demanding that Bioware devotes its ressources" are the people who refuse to see "Shroud of Memory" sold and want something new to be made and put on sale instead so they can keep their shiny exclusive (There were some, believe me.)
  16. He is heard speaking to Vader in "The Siege of Lothal" but his presence in the serie has been indeed pretty scarce.
  17. I think he meant Force Sensitivity, not the Force as a whole ^^
  18. I know it's a years old argument but for the people who claim we should pay 84$ for it, it would only be a fair price if that price contains everything you "paid" for: -8 months of sub -All the HK bonus -The Chapter -HK-55 back as a companion. Otherwise, it's not "a fair price" as some of you claim. The chapter alone is not worth 84$ or whatever. But if there's a 84$ pack with the above mentionned content put for sale, I might actually buy it. Otherwise, asking for a more reasonable price for just HK and the Chapter is not "being entitled" because the sub represents a massive part of the 84$ (Or whatever price you set on your own) and pretending that "It didn't matter because I only subbed for the chapter so you should pay full price for just the chapter" is dishonest.
  19. True about the Leia part, I suppose I meant more that Leia was planning on finding a new base and was probably aware of them being close to Crait in the first place (Since they weren't pulled out of Hyperspace, it may have been the original destination after all.) But nothing in the movie indicates she knew, and that sneaking off to Crait was her plan, true enough
  20. On third watching, I noticed something interesting about Holdo. When Poe goes to the bridge to confront her and notices the shuttles being fueled, she seems about to tell him what the plan is when he starts yelling at her, calling her a coward and a traitor. Of course, we don't know for sure that she was going to do this but the way I see it, she was finally willing to compromise when he resorted to insults and and accusations which made her snap. (And honestly who would let anyone walk over them at such a critical time?) In the end, Holdo is less a bad commander and just someone who sucks at people stuff, which is why she grossly underestimated Poe's hero complex and willingness to go over her and do things "his" way. And, well, Poe is kind of a dick. I'm sorry I like him but stirring trouble in the middle of an evacuation by calling your commanding officer a coward and a traitor is definitely not a responsible thing to do. Instead of trying to bellitle each other, Poe and Holdo should have learned to communicate. He should have asked her what they were planning with the shuttles instead of attacking her. She should have told him before kicking him off the bridge. Also she might have mentionned it was Leia's idea or at least aimed at her objective. Poe heas the utmost respect for Leia, he'd have listened.
  21. I also noted a clever visual trick used by Rian Johnson during the flashback scenes: The lightsabers' positioning. Put it simply: -In the version told by Kylo Ren, Luke is outright trying to murder him. His lightsaber slashes verticaly towards Ben who blocks the attacks horizontally. -In the "real" (Assumed) version of the story, it's Ben who is holding his blade vertically while Luke is holding it horizontally. It may seem insignificant but IMO, that's meant to represent the complete switch of the attacker/defender role in the story.
  22. Killing anyone in anger is a bad thing. As far as Star Wars goes. Do I need to quote Yoda? Also, not the point being discussed. The point being made was that even in his last major appearance before TLJ, Luke was still a man vulnerable to outbursts of emotions and instinctive actions that he took quite some time to snap out of. As such, claiming that Luke considering killing Ben for a mere fraction of a second and igniting his lightsaber (But not even moving it an inch afterwards) is out of character is not just non-sense, it's being blinded by nostalgia and hero worship of Luke Skywalker. And honestly, like or dislike TLJ, I can't really find a proper counter-argument to that except maybe that Luke was so changed by the duel against Vader that they expected him to change completely from A to Z. It was "just a thought". Luke mentions it didn't last more than a second. You clearly see that he didn't try to attack Ben at all. He considered it and that second of consideration was enough for Ben to get the wrong message. Again, wrong. I've seen the movie (And therefore this scene) three times now. Luke is already regreting it before Ben turns towards him and pulls his lightsaber to his hand. You can clearly see Luke having a "By the Force what am I doing?" expression on his face. He. Wasn't. Going. To. Attack. Would have wrecked the story being told you mean. A "in person" fight scene would have had only two endings possible: 1) Luke kills Kylo Ren and the trilogy ends at the end of the second episode, with no remaining vilain and no more story to be told. Also the "passing the torch" message is ruined. 2) Kylo Ren kills Luke, either with the barrage or in a duel, completely crushing the Resistance morale and strenghtening Kylo Ren's position as Supreme Leader. Luke accomplished the unlikely with his Force Projection trick: -He allowed the Resistance to escaped. -He humiliated Kylo Ren in front of his men. -He focused all of Ben's anger and hatred on him, leaving his possible redemption (Or defeat) in the hands of Rey (And before Carrie Fisher died, Leia) as he states himself that "[he] can't save him" not that he can't be saved. A lightsaber fight wasn't necessary for the movie to work, and the Throne Room fight was fresh enough for Star Wars to scratch my fight scene needs.
  23. I'm getting mixed signals about the Jedi Academy Trilogy! Is it a "Try and see if you like it" or a "Avoid like the plague"? Just kidding but I'm honestly unsure of whether to keep it in my reading list or not. As stated above, I liked "some" of Anderson's work (The Saga of Seven Suns) and I have okay-ish memories of Young Jedi Knights (Although it will never reach even a fraction of the quality of "Jedi Apprentice" from Jude Watson. And Dave Wolverton who did the first book too.)
  24. This is kind of my point: the film never states that it is a new strategy or an unexpected one, just a very unlikely one (Since Hux does understand it and orders the gunners to destroy the Raddus. Considering this, it's safe to assume that since Holdo knows it works but she only used it as a last resort and Hux guessed what she was doing at the very last moment, that it is not deemed an acceptable strategy even for most of the worst case scenarios. That's how I think about it, personally. Hyper-ramming is not new but it's not a good tactic even as last resort otherwise there would be constant safeguards against it as it would be commonplace. A very simple reason: Erik Bauersfeld died early in the shooting of TLJ (He was Ackbar's voice) and his (Ackbar's) death was written-in as an "hommage" to Bauersfeld. It's very likely Ackbar was not intended to die at all in TLJ and continue to appear in the next movies. Also, someone pointed out that it would have been awkard to have a character named "Ackbar" performing a kamikaze attack presented as a good thing in today's world but I'm not sure it was ever considered anyway.
  25. The discussion and one thing NuSeC said made me think. He said, I quote: I have a question, NuSeC: Did you ever think about it before the scene, like, ever? If the answer is no, then why? Was it because the idea never came to you? Or because you dismissed it for being unlikely to work? Or any other reason? My point being: I've never seen that tactic get brought up by anyone before even in Legends where it was very much established that Hyperspace still allowed for "physical interactions" between light-speed ships and the real world. Maybe that's an indication of how much, in universe and out of universe, that tactic is unreliable and sub-optimal? And that strengthen the idea that Holdo's plan was really a last ditch effort (Otherwise she'd have rammed the Supremacy as soon as the shuttles had left, her life be damned.) and she didn't even expect it to work "that well" (Sadly she won't be around to comment on it.) Need to address this quickly: That's an invalid point. First, the rails from the bombers are magnetized to "propel" the bombs. Second, there's an artificial gravity in the bomber itself so it would also build up a baseline speed. Third, once it's going, it's not going to float away, it will keep it's momentum until it hits something. The bombs don't accelerate in the movie (Or at least it didn't seem like they did on the second viewing) so there's absolutely zero error here.
