(KOTFE) Do you really have to do PvP to recruit a PvE companion?

Just another instance of the Devs being so out of touch with the player base.

Seriously has the gaming community become that lazy and complacent, they want to help the pvp community by forcing some pve focused players to experience pvp for a brief time. You may like it, oh wait there is no Overpowered Companion to do the work for you, on second thought QQ more, maybe you will get that too.

Allow me to highlight the problem, see the underlined in your post. Forcing players to go against their preferred style isn't going to help you, or them.

I have just posted in the other thread about this but I will as here too, I am tempted to jump into a warzone later tonight not to even try but to try to piss as many people off as possible.

Has anybody got any tips of advice for me :D

There was some good advice upthread:

do things like Rescue your team mates into lava, or just before they make the killing blow. Don't heal, or bubble anyone. Rescue them when they're doing the PvE of getting a node, etc. Send a clear message: "I'm here against my will because I want a purely PvE companion". If they start getting enough "trolling" reports, they may decide to re-evaluate this "forcing" people to help out the PvP community.

The issue I have isn't that the requirement is to do PvP matches, I'm actually very glad they're going out of their way to cater to all of their playerbase.

The issue I have is that they're providing no alternative for people like me who just don't enjoy PvP like other people do. I've tried PvP, I play it as lower levels. I just don't ever enjoy it as higher level because a lot of the players get incredibly snobby and rude. It's not something I enjoy.

So it's great they're giving something to PvPers, but I'd at least like some sort of alternative for those of us who don't want to PvP.

I think this whole thing is really stupid. PVP players who complain about having to do "PVE" or story related stuff, seriously? Why would you even be playing this game if you have no interest in it? There are far better games out there for PVP than this. If you don't enjoy the class storylines or the stories in general (which are the only things this MMO does better than pretty much any other MMO) why the hell are you even playing this game?

I hate this PVP requirement for Pierce, I can't stand it, if it was 5 or even 10, that'd be somewhat more acceptable, but 20? Huoh, the people on Warzones are some of the more toxic people I've run into in awhile. That says a lot when coming from someone who plays World of Tanks on EU servers, MOBAs and has played World of Warcraft.

Give all comps a way to obtain them via PVP for all I care, just give me an option to do it another way that doesn't involve it.

Yeah, and maybe I'll simply go AFK in your next ops group boss fight.

Being a jerk to other gamers doesn't "punish" Bioware, it only pisses off other players.

Okay, I've been reading forum posts and Dulfy guides, and it's said that to recruit a certain companion, I'd have to do warzone matches? Play PvP? Otherwise I won't be able to recruit them? Seriously?

I'm not doing PvP, ever - I just don't want to hurt other people; doesn't work for me; I don't like it. I got legendary status, legacy level 50, 20k achievements, but no PvP. Never. Not going to.

But I do want another companion, another friend. It just doesn't make sense in my head. Why would they introduce such a strange requirement instead of a normal solo PvE quest?

For the record, I don't like recruiting Dr Lokin through Rakghoul event only, either. I've got eight(or rather eighteen) high-level characters who will need him as a companion: I can't wait for months for each of them - again, that just doesn't make sense.

I hope they'll change it in the later patches. As it stands, it just seems a really bad idea.

Then you just don't get that companion. You're not entitled to have absolutely everything in the game. If you don't like PvP, you miss out on that companion. There are things in the game I don't care to do, and so I don't get the rewards associated with them. If I want those rewards, I do the thing. Running 20 warzones is not a huge deal. Eat a couple Valium and queue up. They're just pixels the same as every other pixel in the game.

You're awesome! :D

No need to be mean to each other, we all have something we enjoy about the game so some compassion or at least general understanding would be great.

I play all parts of the game but I can totally see how this requirement wold turn some players off. It seems they could have had some sort of alternative for those players who don't want to PVP.

Mean people suck...

This philosophy starts to hurt the game in the long run though. Plenty of people want Karagga's stupid bell hat, but it's only available by beating KP and getting the random drop. Same with the tank mount in EC. These objects don't help you with future operations, they're just something you can get if you want it like the additional alliance companions.

If you start making these rewards available in other ways, then the reward loses some of its value.

It also seems you have to group to get some of the star fortress FP done as well. yes there are solo versions but to complete the actual quest you must do hard mode.

I also agree with the OP to get the companions should never mean you have to PvP. As there are 3 different types of servers this should never happen, player picked PvE and RP so they would not have to do PvP.

PvP players already get season rewards if they want, companions should not be part of PvP as well, they should be available to all 3 types of play, PvP, PvE & RP.

A large majority of players are soloing the H2 Star Fortresses if they don't want to group.

Get yourself 216-220 gear, companion influence to 20, and a couple of specialists to 10 and you should be able to solo the H2 relatively easily.

99% of this game is behiond a "pve wall"

pvpers get one thing and *SKY IS FALLING*

Yea...cuz f*ck PVP. Seriously...a WHOLE LOT OF US do not care about it, don't play it, have zero interest in it, and thus it's kind of crap to say "hey, if you want this guy...PVP is the only way". I get it for the ranked mounts...and there are plenty of those I'd like, but I understand only come as PVP rewards. This isn't a mount we're talking about, it's a companion that was originally a PVE feature.

I agree with OP - this is a horrible decision.

You can pretty easily solo the H2 Star Fortresses assuming you have semi decent gear.

What specialists?

I have 216 gear and have Lana at 25, when I tried to do Nar Shaddaa Star Fortress HM solo I did not get any specialists as well. Not sure what you mean by that. Though most if not all possible characters available to me are at the 10 affection mark.

Anyway in the end I got help and did it as a two man group. I just don't really enjoy groups. Now ready to do the Tat one. Did group for a few WB, to help someone get the 3 he needed. cannot say care for it.

Anyway this is going off topic I guess, so sorry to the OP.

Edit. OK 216 is not the best gear but alone way off getting better.

If you are turning in the boxes to the specialists when you complete Heroics (Aygo, Hylo, Sana & the Hutt scientist), they give you boxes of gear and it also gives you influence over them. After certain levels of influence, you can get alliance buffs in the Star Fortresses. They help enormously when soloing the Heroics.

p.s. you are welcome

If you get the 4 main people to influence 10, then there are items you can click scattered throughout the star fortress that will power you up. But you can definitely solo it in 190/208 with a level 10ish influence companion if you know what you're doing even without the boosts.
