Time for name purge

Come on its been over a year now its time for a name purge again, except this time it needs to be done properly, any non sub who hasn't logged in for 30 days looses their name.

This is the kind of thing that should be done on a regular basis.

30 days? I'd say over a year if anything.

If you can't play at least one day a month then why bother having the game.

Simple fact:

My boyfriend is in college and doesn't play while attending school as he is more focus on his school work.

Military individuals also can't always play one day a month depending on where they are deployed.

My best friend can't play every month due to her school and work schedule.

Of course both my boyfriend and my best friend are subs but those are some reasons that even non subs could have for not playing once a month so I would consider that when you are suggesting a name purge.

Not everyone plays each month. I have friends who were here during the beta who show up every other month due to real life responsibilities. Should they lose their characters names when they've been here longer than you have and possibly have contributed more to the game?

Eat a Richard. I'm deployed and unable to log into the game.

Some of us have real world lives that takes us away from everyday life.

No name purge needed. Come up with something unique. Don't copy someone else :rak_04:

First I NEVER have a name problem. I have a rather interesting way of choosing names and MAYBE if I was on certain foreign language servers I would have an issue but being on a NA English server I never have one. As such what I note below is not support born of wanting a particular name.

Now 30 days is WAY to fast, BUT name purges do need to happen from a business perspective. I would say 6 months to a year for all but active sub's. These games revolve around getting new players in to spend money and hopefully stay to replace players who are not spending money. If you have an active sub you are making them money, if you are f2p you potentially can make them money but ONLY if you are logging in.

I get deployment... Been there done that, got the T-shirt. I get RL civilian issues, caring for family members with serious illnesses? Been there. Have a seasonal hobby that takes up a lot time... Still there. Thing is to say "I have a RL so no you should not take away the name I pay nothing for" is pretty much a cop out and makes no logical sense if you care about the health of the game vs your personal little part of it.

Everyone here is playing a game that expects a regular stream of money from the players. This is not a b2p game and f2p is simply a marketing term used to get you to try the game, in the hopes you get hooked into one of their revenue streams. These companies don't produce games with some neosocialist goal of "we just want to make a great game and gosh darn it if people want to just give us money as a thank you, well golly that's just a bonus." These games, especially in the hands of parent companies like EA and Activision, are all about the Benjamins.

You can clearly see from the passion here how important names can be to people due to the reflexive anger of those who feel that "their" names may be endanged. I know people who when it's "do I want to try this game time" will actually say "oh I can't get my favorite name? Nvm then, other games out there." So as a business do you want to discourage new players who may well say "hey I am here...take my money" in favor of players who are not "here" for extended periods of time and whether or not they return is uncertain?

Call me silly but I would rather provide more encouragement to the active player who is handing over their cash which in turn goes to game development and thus expanding the universe I like to play in vs the person who is not around for an extended period of time and thus, arguably is simply an expense due to the memory they take up in the database (memory=money.)

No you wouldn't, last time they did a name purge they changed every ones name to a random string of letters, then when you logged in you just click your name and renamed it, cost nothing for all who had their name changed. Edited by AussieAlan
