I think beating myself by over 100 dps is worthy of an update.

It's just too bad few guilds want to take DPS Powertechs or Vanguards in their raid or guild because they think we suck at dps. :rak_03:

(@ Zlena) I tend to have the same problem with RS crit being between 15-27%, to fix that are you supposed to use your spec of 6/4/36? I saw you and that other guy were discussing it on the other thread, but didn't know who was right.

I think it's more of a case of the game designers make being a melee DPS hard enough because you need to be mobile while putting up high damage while powertechs are quite immobile just due to the fact that hydraulics is not very good(compared to extricate or force speed at least, and worthless when compared to force charge), and powertech DPS have no other gap closer to speak of.

 

Also oh my god I hate crits: http://www.torparse.com/a/677311/2/0/Damage+Dealt :mad: I finish the parse and i'm like oh yeah that's a good one! Then I see 20% crit on Series of Shots and under 20% on Takedown...if those were like at least 40% I bet my DPS would've been in the high 3600-3700 range at least. Not to mention ZERO explosive probe crits...

Technically, neither of us are correct. 6/4/36 and 4/6/36 are essentially the same spec it's just one relies on RNG a little more than the other. I can go into a lot of details though that may bore a lot of people if I did. But technically each has an advantage.

6/4/36 gives you 3% base damage on you HIB and 2% base damage on your elemental at the expense of 3% on your elemental crit chance and 3% crit chance on all tech attacks.

Basically With 6/4/36

+6% base on HIB/RS (usually about 100 more base damage compared to 4/6/36 to the attack with Dread Forged gear)

+2% base on Elemental attacks (which is all your burns, IR/IM, and IP/FB)

+3% on Elemental crits

With 4/6/36

3% on HIB/RS

6% on Elemental Crits

3% on all tech crits

 

So with either you still need to get lucky enough to crit; 6/4/36 is just more base damage while 4/6/36 gives you more chances to crit on the majority of your damaging attacks.

I agree with you on the fact that Bioware just hates melee DPS. LOL. Almost every boss fight favors Ranged. Though, having been playing Vanguard for such a long time (and Melee classes since the early access), I actually believe that we don't need another gap closer other than Hold the Line or Hydraulic Override. It's because we have a 30m range on our base attack and sticky grenade (Moves that can be used on the go, not counting Mortar volley if you have to stay away from the target). Combine that with the fact that most of our essential moves, even in the Tactics/AP tree, are usable in a 10m range we can still do as much damage getting to our target as someone leaping. TBH it usually is only one move before you are in range anyways, with HL/HO or w/o it. They consider all these moves our gap closer.

 

Why? Because we have such a wide variety of Ranges on our abilities, we have more options of moving around than the people who have to be within 4-5m to do all their moves. Heck I love running around at 10m when I can just for the fun of it. Essentially we are more mobile than any other melee class without using a gap closer. I don't blame the Developers for not giving us a Leap besides our tanking tree. Sure it's less forgiving if we mess up, but if the player knows how to work the class properly and knows where they need to be in a fight than they know that our class really doesn't need the leap. It would just be a fluff move to people that are already used to the class.

I feel your pain. I do the exact same thing all the time. Thinking I've just had the best parse and then looking to see that I hardly crit, where it counts, is the worse feeling.

This right here is Deception in a nutshell. "Oh, you had a perfect rotation with perfect procs and perfect energy management? Here's 10% crit rate on Maul for the whole fight!" :(

Beat my old parse by a few seconds by managing corrosive dart better. I think I have the rotation down near perfectly, I just need some of the 186 gear to push my DPS up.
