Is SWTOR dying? Where are the updates?

Is it just me or is this game dying? Ive been a member since this game first came out. I loved this game but lately after the sale of LucasArts it seems like EA or Bioware or whoever it is in charge of this game just isn't interested anymore. There used to be weekly updates, weekly community updates. I dont know it just seems like there is less and less input from the creators and workers of this game. Is it time to look for a more active game? Or am I just missing the bigger picture here? Seriously LOVE the game more than any other game I have ever played. Hope someone can shed some light on this and make me feel a little more secure about putting so much time and effort into this game. :D

Does it help when I say this is just another "game dying" thread?

Seriously, the last update was not that long ago, the Gree event just restarted, and the expansion has only been out for a couple of months. Get on the game and look at the population, it isn't dying.

People see no update for a week and panic. Nonsense.

The game is dying... just like you and me are dying.

In my personal case, I hope to last another 30-40 years... dunno how old you are, but I guess you will last at least that long too.

SWTOR surely will not last that long, but it will also not have the lifespan of a hamster on a highway.

Well I think it is alive and well, the F2P option definitely bailed them out after the subscriber drop, and in my opinion the rate of updates is quite fast compared to some MMO's I have played. Updates that deliver more than just fixes and patches anyway.

Yes there are problems with the game, it is a facet of all MMO's and yes maybe the updates have become a little Cartel heavy, yes we all want to see our own personal request for X, Y and Z to be added.

But I think they are doing a great job, not perfect but pretty good actually. No you can't please all of the people all of the time as is evident in these, the worst and whiniest forums of any MMO ever, but what they are doing is welcomed by most of us in the silent portion of the community I think, and long may it continue....

Yup, this game is dying, we've all been dying the heck out of everything since the last *update*, which oh, by the way, not too long ago. Presently black dying is the most difficult- prohibitively expensive, one might say. But in all honesty, I will never understand these threads, must be the server.

You tell me:

Hello everyone,

My name is Bruce Maclean and I am a Senior Producer here at BioWare Austin. I know there have been a lot of questions around the forums about what kind of content you can expect from us this year and so I’m here today to give you all a bit of information about what we’re working on bringing to you this summer!

First up, Game Update 2.2, which is currently targeted for launch on June 11th:

  • Nightmare Mode Terror From Beyond. It’s got vicious new mechanics and is definitely not for the faint of heart. I’m very excited for you to see the new gear that comes with this, which uses a new appearance system we’ve developed for armor and weapons called ‘Scrolling UVs’.
  • New Guild Bonuses! Players in guilds currently receive a +5% experience bonus, but now every 5 active players in the guild will add an additional 1% bonus to XP and reputation, up to a maximum bonus of 10% each.
  • Crafters can now craft Underworld gear! But don’t RE that piece if you are still using it…
  • Unified fleet chat channel for each faction, for easier group finding without having to hop between instances.

We’ve seen a lot of requests for a rerun of our Double XP weekends. Well, okay! We’d like to help you stay cool in the heat of the summer with three weekends starting June 22nd and continuing through July 7th. The third and last weekend will actually start early on Thursday the 4th of July, in case you are enjoying a long Independence Day weekend.

By July 9th Ops groups will have had four weeks to cut their teeth on Nightmare Mode Terror From Beyond. That’s when we will launch Nightmare Mode Scum and Villainy as a part of Game Update 2.2.2! New mechanics and unique loot for you.

July 23rd look for a return of the Relics of the Gree Event for a nice two week long run. Per community request the Event will scaled up to level 55 on this next run!

August 6th is our target date for Game Update 2.3, which we are working on right now and will be our biggest update since 2.0. Some of the bigger parts of this update are:

  • New Flashpoints
  • New Daily Area
  • New Recurring Event
  • Significant graphical upgrades

This isn’t an exhaustive list, and we are also working on some longer term stuff. Sometimes we have been averse to discussing specific dates well in advance, because we aren’t going to release anything unless we feel it is ready to go live and we don’t want to upset folks if we move a date back. Well I think we should just tell you what date the teams are shooting for, and if we don’t hit them we’ll just tell you why. Radical thinking, I know. As we get closer we’ll have a lot more juicy details on these - keep your eyes peeled to the forums and SWTOR.com for more information. Also, for those who are curious about the next updates to PvP, I will just say… apart from minor tweaks (like stunbreak abilities cooldown being reset on death in 2.2) you should look forward to Game Update 2.4. /rubshands

When someone is visiting the planets in chapter one, the game is more alive then ever.Quiet alot of people on them, and that is awesome, at that point someone thinks.Hey the game is not dying, its crawling with people here.

In chapter 3, however, Voss, and especially Corellia the game seems dead, i mean, i went to Corellia on the prime time, where there was 12 people, and im on the The Progenitor which is a fairly big server.

I know a few of my freinds tried Tor, but they got so bored of it right after chapter 1 which is a shame.I get the feeling, people giving up on the game, around chapter 2, and that, is not good.

So overall, do i thin the game is dead or dying? I cant say that. The game is defently not dead, but its not alive as it should be either.Only time will tell how long the game will live, and i wish it best of luck, and many years of lifespan. :)

actually if you have been playing since the beginning of the game you would realise a customization update and a color update are pathetic in comparison to the updates of 4 months ago, less than of 8 months ago. I was merely asking a simple question im on every single day. Did i ask for your negatice feed back. NO i asked for constrctive advice. forget this game im looking for a new one its pretty pathetic when someone asks a simple question and you just attack them.

  • 3 years later...
imo - EA, historically ruined most of its mmo by stringing its puppet mmo studios along with ea's screw the player policy. the hero engine is a development barrier to this game's growth. the current bioware team appears to not have the talent or resources to develop major content, only 20-30 minute 'monthly' story content. bioware/ea communications doesn't give hope to any major. my point is players don't like to see weaknesses in a game so they leave. if this trend continues, the game will die slowly but surely. wait and see if 'season 2' comes out. if it doesn't, the game has a real problem of living.

Dying, no, at least not yet. Well, maybe. The easily-led WalMart --pardon: Cartel Market-- shoppers should see to that for the near future, at least.

But is it declining?

Definitely.

bioware is censoring and deleting posts on their forum more often targeting their bad buggy history/trends. another bad sign of the decline.

ok. good luck. time for a break until august.

if they ban me for this post, so be it. they will not get a dime out of me or recommendations to play this game to anyone.

People have been saying this since the game came out. If I recall SWTOR is one of the only MMOs that has kept sales of its product this high for this long. There was some thing on it recently. If anyone has the link post it?
